growalot
Red oaks...today I dragged some 12ft 4x4 down to the platform blind area and noticed...the young red oaks that didn't drop last year....well those beauties are dropping this year...now most of the mature reds in our 200 did..... but now I have scattered about a select few dropping...and aren't they near stand sites ppl say that most all reds are on the same cycle..well that's what I read ...but not mine...kinda like my apples...about half produced last year and half are going strong this. PS...my lonely little Dunstun chestnut seed from trees I planted this spring...is the size of an egg now...lol Edited August 10, 2014 by growalot

jr.deerslayer
I've only seen acorns on two trees this year, most of the trees are bare although I haven't ventured to the back of our property line yet.
landtracdeerhunter
Looks like another good mast crop, similar to last years here. Shag bark already dropping mature gold. Red Oaks have groups of 3 to 4 nut clusters. Whites are always less, for some reason. Apples look good also. I fumbled with stand placement, a year ago. Going to be a tough set up spot season again. A ray of light though. I picked up some nice sheds under the hickories in March. These blackberries are delicious, LOL. NFA-ADK
I can never seem to find a good area with oaks in it, but those beechnuts are da bomb! ADK LI is another story, we have more oaks than an oak farm. Can not wait to get out and see what is being eaten, once the season opens. dbHunterNY
I feel like the red oaks aren't like white oaks. I feel like reds are usually like that every other year or third year.
G-Man
some young oaks 10 in and under are heavy this year.. the mature reds are bare.. few spots of apples around in clusters of trees, no where near the 30 acres of apples last year.. have stands moved and situated accordingly. BizCT
When I put my cams out in Putnam county (3N) on 8/9, there was acorns everywhere. I put my cams where I saw lots of them on the ground in hopes of some good pics Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
