Doc
Lol. I've been hunting in the ADKs for something like 5 years and still haven't shot anything. Tuff is an understatement! My first deer with a bow took 7 years. Back in the 60's, a bunch of us guys would have Monday morning gatherings around the coffee pot at work and talk over the events of our bowhunts over the weekend. The big topic back then was when somebody actually saw a deer. And boy did the stories get super involved and intense when someone actually got a shot. And if somebody actually got one, the BS session went well into actual working hours.....lol. And there was no question of "Gee, what did he score?" First of all it wasn't likely to even be a buck, and second there was nobody knew or cared about any kind of scoring system. So 5 years without getting a deer is not anything that is going to get my sympathy..... lol. People sure have gotten spoiled rotten these days.

BackWoods Hunter
You can't persecute me because I'd actually like to shoot a deer in deer season. And yes I have seen does, regularly, and yes I'm getting closer to a buck. http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/20119-Hunt-the-Scrapes-or-the-Does/page__view__findpost__p__261724 But on the last day of the season if I haven't shot one, it sure would be nice to tip the scales a little instead of coming home empty handed, again. My dad has killed close to or over 30 whitetail bucks in New York. During one period (70's-80's), he only got 2 bucks in 17 years in the Catskills and those were only 2 bucks he saw. Then he had stretches of 9 bucks in 10 years, etc.

Damn.... I've never been accused of persecuting anyone before.....lol. I have some pretty rock solid opinions about baiting and a whole lot of other things regarding hunting. And frequently I do get off on the preachy side of things. That's not intentional. It's just a bit of emotion creeping in. But I do understand that I am not some kind of sole arbiter when it comes to the right and wrong ways of hunting. But frequently I do try to encourage some elements of self imposed limits rather than the desperation of "I've got to get a deer at any cost". Ha-ha-ha .... Try doing that without sounding preachy....lol. But in the end, what occurs in the the hunting woods generally relies less on laws than on individual conscience. And maybe there have been some elements of this topic that might help on that score a bit.
njg0621
.And frequently I do get off on the preachy side of things. Ya think?!!!! There are two types of people on this forum the people who are honest and the people who are perfect. I am an honest guy.... I don't bait....and I have probably shot more MATURE deer than most that preach to me on this site over the years. I enjoy this site for reading harvest stories and seeing all the pictures everyone has to share...that's about it. When I ready posts about how food plots are baiting I just laugh! When I read posts about how you shouldn't go hunting because it might rain that day or it is windy I LAUGH! Now you can call me an a-hole but it's the truth. People sit around and like to pretend they are perfect behind the keyboard.
Culvercreek hunt club
Hit a hot button for me. (and as long as we are derailing, might as well go for a 20 car pile up...lol). I will not bow hunt in a heavy rain or if one is forecast in the next few hours. I think it is asking for trouble if you do. Unless you are "perfect" and can make the "perfect" shot every time, but lets be "honest" about it who is that "perfect"? Gun is another story.

I have no remorse for that. if you're self imposing buck shooting only and because you have to kill something with horns you're not winning anyone over with an attempt to legalize baiting. I was talking about the guy complaining he hasn't killed a deer in 5 years. Nothing to due with baiting whatsoever. I'm neither for or against baiting. I always hunt legally. If baiting was legal, of course I would give it a shot to some extent.

Dom
Here is an idea to the baiting question/issue if you can go hunt an apple orchard or berry patch. Before all these hunting show's we all see on tv there was never really any issue with baiting deer.I remeber as a child my mom and dad were sucsessfull every season not because there were more deer but the area's they hunted was mostly farm land and apple orchards Having 16 children between them they had to provide and did so legally. If some time down the road baiting becomes legal I may give it a try if I cannot get around on foot
BizCT
When legal, baiting for deer is not different than baiting for fish. It's an attractant Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Four Season Whitetail's
Thats not hunting thats just killing. There is no hunting involved in that. lmao Really??? Do you have any clue of the laws of Texas? Do you think hunting top end deer on 5,10,15 thousand acres of property is not hunting? Texas is a prime example of what a state can do when the Govt works with the farmers and sportsmen of that state. Success!!!
wdswtr
I could care less what the laws are in Texas I live in NY. Besides what does that have to do with one guys opinion anyhow? I dont personally call getting set in a tripod in front a timed feeder hunting, I call it killing. Hunting is way more invovled that getting placed in front of the deer. LIke I said my opinion

Many call taking a deer hunting when in fact most harvests are just killing. Unless you pick out a mature deer or two and hunt those and only those deer, the word hunting get stretched a bit at times. IMO

People sit around and like to pretend they are perfect behind the keyboard. No, you left out a third type of member who whines about threads that he claims he has no interest in, but still jumps into them simply because it gives him a chance to criticize topics and people who happen to want to discuss some other aspects of hunting than just looking at pictures and stories of dead deer. Nobody cares how much you laugh at other members here. No one is pretending that they are perfect except perhaps those who get some kind of satisfaction from bragging about how they have shot more mature deer than others. What you are mistaking as preaching, is simply expression of opinion. You probably should be made aware that that is one of the prime purposes of forums. So if whining about other people happens to be another unstated reason that you are a member here, maybe you should be aware that this forum is not really all about you and the limited subject matter that you want to talk about. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I still think a good compromise is to allow baiting but not to allow hunting over it. I said it before, but some states allow it for attractant and cameras but you must be 100 yards and not within site of the bait to be legal.
