WNYBuckHunter
what does that have to do with your statement. I asked you a question. Please answer. There are no ARs, just debate. So again, what regulations have turned hunters away? I did answer your question. There are no ARs? Really? In NY? Um, last I checked there were quite a few AR zones. I wasnt just talking about regs, which is why I stated "regulations and such". Bashing other hunters, calling them slobs, looking down your nose at those that hunt differently, etc drive people out of the sport.
WNYBuckHunter
NY doesn't have antler restrictions in some areas? And not using screw in steps (damaging trees) on state land isnt part of conservation law, and you cant have a loaded gun after dark in the field, etc etc....par for the course.... the blur
I was on state land, and I saw a guy shoot 2 does when I was walking out. It was 4:45, 15 minutes past legal sundown. Pretty much dark outside. He was field dressing in the dark. Would you call that poaching ??? Certainly not legal. I had a chance to poach a big buck opening day 5am. Way before legal shooting time. His nose was to the ground. He couldn't care less if I was there. But if I did take him, I could never hang him on my wall. I could never eat the meat, because it would be a constant reminder that I poached.
jjb4900
is the term "poaching" open to interpretation?..........if someone breaks any law, no matter how small, screwing steps into a tree on State Land for instance, and it results in the harvest of an animal did they "poach"? I think we can all agree that shooting an animal on another's property, with a spotlight, over bait, out of a car and the likes is without question poaching....but what about the rest? thphm
I always wondered. If a guy is already poaching, does he really care if his hunting license is suspended for "x" number of years? Not like he needs a license to continue to poach. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I have seen this and they just do not give a hoot, lic. or not , they were brought up that way and in there mind there is nothing wrong with it. They say just puttin food on the table, as they are rolling there next hit.
Nomad
Work with the dec officers around you . I know 2 and have talked to a third in my area . We've had poaching issues , they have changed their work hours to nights to catch them. . Set up the robo deer , parked on hills looking for lights , asked me for hair off poached bucks to compair DNA against saws and knives of known poachers . So work work with them , clue them in .or wait a few months and handle it your own way, something I often prefer .... I wasnt just talking about regs, which is why I stated "regulations and such". Bashing other hunters, calling them slobs, looking down your nose at those that hunt differently, etc drive people out of the sport. You know exactly what I meant by ARs. Your post strictly called out regulations as a reason hunters are leaving and why we may not be able to get more boots on the ground. You may believe that other hunters are driving out hunters but that's not what you said. Honestly poachers and trespassers can drive away just as many hunters as those "elitists" who speak out against them. So again, all recent regulations have been made in an attempt to increase Hunter numbers and I don't know of one to drive anyone away. Proposed and implemented are not the same thing. I never said it wasn't a conservation law. Jesus quote me before you spout nonsense. I said it wasn't a HUNTING regulation. Elmo
I have seen this and they just do not give a hoot, lic. or not , they were brought up that way and in there mind there is nothing wrong with it. They say just puttin food on the table, as they are rolling there next hit. That is sort of my point. Suspending the license for some of these poachers means absolutely nothing. They need to have other forms of punishment that will deter them. Even jail time if it's multiple offenses.
