Fletch
The trout don't wake up on our tundra rivers until the middle of April anyway. I check the temperature of the St Regis River in my back yard. It runs about 4° warmer than the trout water sections upstream. When it approaches 50° here it is time to start hitting the pocket water from St Regis Falls down to Ft Jackson. The Salmon River below Malone is 4° colder than the trout water in the St Regis in the summer so it stays productive longer. I spent a lot of my youth on that river!! My grandparents owned a camp on the river for decades. Man some stories I could tell yikes, The Waverly, Riverside, Sportsmans Club, BMI, Tamarack....... oh lordy..... New a lotta awesome people up that way, most long gone now.

Skillet
We had a great week. Just got back from camp today. My son got a nice one on his first cast. Fishing was good on Wednesday and Thursday morning, but turned into a washout after that. The warm weather and rain turned the creek too muddy until yesterday.

Pygmy
Nice bows, skillet ! Glad to see your boy got a nice one... I didn't fish opening day..Too cold for me.. Getting to be a wuss in my old age. However, I did fish Thursday morning and got 4 wild/holdover browns, including a beautiful 19 1/2 inch male. I released 3 but kept the biggest one because he was hooked deep. One of the unfortunate hazards of fishing bait. I had another big brown break me off...My own fault..I considered retying after catching the big one, but felt the line and felt no nicks, so I let it go. Sure enough, I hooked another big one in the next hole and he broke my 6 lb. test just above the hook... Dumb rookie mistake..You'd think I hadn't been DOING this stuff for 60 years....<<blush>>.. The_Real_TCIII
Fished a pond yesterday, just the one small bass. It hadn't quite "woken up" yet we need a few more warm days
Zem18
Had great weather for the PA trout opener last Saturday and Sunday. Limited out both days on stockies and threw back three brookies.(caught half on spinners and the rest on corn) Got my PA non resident license to carry while I was there as well. Great weekend spent with great company.
ncountry
Headed for camp in Quebec this weekend. Maybe I can can catch my 1st lake trout. : ) This will be 3rd trip to our camp except for the mosquitoes it is a great time? Supposed to go down to high 20s friday night , maybe it will put them into hiding... Mosquitoes , not trout.. Lake trout fishing is a new game for me . I am accustomed to fishing in 1-15' of water. lol
BizCT
Love lake trout fishing. I catch them down in westchester and Putnam from a rowboat. A nice 6-7lber 100 feet down really drags you around Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can catch them surrounded by people or 50 miles from the nearest cell signal or black top road. lol I was actually pleasantly surprised when I ate one , they are delicious. I was actually expecting a taste closer to a salmon. Edited May 20, 2015 by ncountry
BizCT
Yea I like the taste too. If I'm not mistaken, lake trout are part of char family and not trout. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I believe so. If it has a double row of teeth, then it is in the char family.
