2012_taco
In NYS do you have to possess a valid hunting license to take some one out turkey hunting who has their license? All I would be doing is calling for them, not carrying a weapon. The reason I ask is I am going to Ohio to take out my brother and his son turkey hunting and if i'm correct I need to have a valid OH license just to guide them. This seems ridiculous! Pay for an out of state license just so I can help my brother get started in hunting.
Pygmy
I never hunted in Ohio, but in most states you need a license to participate in the hunt... Years ago a buddy of mine was calling foxes in PA and had his girlfriend holding the light... He got checked by a game warden and learned that it was illegal for her to hold the light unless she had a license. The guy gave them a break and did not issue a ticket. wildcat junkie
Can one still participate in the hunt (calling turkeys) after his/her tags are filled? I believe you can still "drive" deer after you tag out as long as you don't carry a firearm.
gfdeputy2
wildcat Junkie from NY DEC site it is the same for NH If you have filled your bag limit, you may call turkeys for another hunter, but you may not carry a bow or firearm. Gonehntn you are still considered hunting if you were to sit & watch or videotape you would probably be ok but calling is part of the hunt
2012_taco
thanks, it looks like I will be getting an out of state license. Ohio has a 3 day license for $40. Maybe I should just go a head and get the turkey stamp so I can hunt also.

2012_taco
It turns out the 3 day license is not for turkey only small game, so I needed a regular out of state license $125 and a separate turkey tag. But I could go along and video no license required. So that's what I did. It was a good weekend, didn't kill a bird but we got into them both days. Had some good early morning action, did a little scouting, and generally gave a turkey hunting seminar to two rookies. All went well and now I think they can go out on their own and start to learn by their own mistakes. Every day in the turkey woods is a learning experience.! Lawdwaz
Sounds like it was a success. Did you run into many guys? Hear much shooting?
2012_taco
We saw 1 guy on Saturday, and we set up on a bird on Sunday and another hunter came in and set up 100-150 yrds. away and started calling so we moved a little away form him. It worked pretty good as we sounded like several hens going back and forth. At one time i thought for sure the birds were going to pass between us and we might get a shot, but the birds were on the other side of a swamp(i didn't know was there) and they hung up. The other guy called way too much so after a while we moved away to set up again about 200 yds. hoping that the birds might be more comfortable coming that way but we bumped them and that was it. The terrain there is very flat, so when you try to move on a bird you have to really go out of the way because they can see so far. Never heard any shots. It was a good "dress rehearsal" now this weekend I will be more prepared to go after those bastards.
