greg54
I just watched news story on WIVB.TV Buffalo, that a man from Wilson, N.Y. was convicted of killing 3 Bald Eagles on his property. He was trying kill coyotes on his property using poisoned meat and the eagles had eaten the meat and were discovered by person on atv dead on the property. He took pics and reported it. He is scheduled to be sentenced this Oct.2, 2015 and faces year in prison and $100,000 fine. There is also story in Buffalo New, July 25th, I don't know how copy it to here. This happened last Aug 22, 2014 when he inadvertently killed the eagles.

growalot
Let me get it started...had he been able to hunt them legally YEAR around...he may not have resorted to poison. Edited July 27, 2015 by growalot
mike rossi
Let me get it started...had he been able to hunt them legally YEAR around...he may not have resorted to poison. Oh, come on with that.... His fine would be much less if he was caught hunting coyotes out of season than putting out poison.... He was not tharted from poison, but was tharted from shooting? Plus, he could have asked for a depred permit - the DEC prolly would have laughed at him I agrree on that.... However, they still sometimes give permits to those they laugh at.... Ridiculous, to the core...

skully
$100.000 dollars is a little ridiculous. He did not intend to kill the eagles.
Curmudgeon
This is a tragedy born of ignorance. While the death of 3 individual eagles is tragic indeed, the ignorance is much more of a concern because it is so widespread. Thanks for posting Greg. It is the first I heard of such a case in NY. growalot
$100.000 dollars is a little ridiculous. He did not intend to kill the eagles. In all honesty I think it should be twice that due to pure stupidity and ...sorry viciousness...poisoning is just wrong. He had no idea how many unintended animals he would get with that. Also unless brain dead, in a coma or a hermit...everyone one should have learned at least a fraction of what went on out West when ranchers did this to kill the western coyote... PS.... Mike sorry I riled you ... was just kicking the conversation into gear...
bkln
That was just dumb, how can you expect only yotes eating your bait? If he had yote problem why not just shoot them, I personally don't know any DEC Officer that would give you grief over a yote, just saying. grampy
Just shoot the dang coyote's and keep your mouth shut about it. No need to put out poison. So no eagles were harmed making this post!
