I am looking into buying a camera that takes a quality picture and can be hooked to my computer/downloaded.I dont want to break the bank on this just looking for ideas.I think my price rang would be around $ 300 max

How about a Canon point and shoot that you can pull the SD card and plug it into your computer?

I have 2 of the Canon Powershot SX130 IS cameras . I leave one in my glove compartment and the other I take with me all over . It has a 12X zoom and a digital zoom . They ran me about $160 each . They have several settings and will take movies also . 

When I pull my SD cards from the trail cams , I check them out in the Canon .

There are newer updated models now that are probably as good or better .

 

Oh , and it runs on 2 double A batteries which makes it easy when the batteries run low .

For $300 you can pick up a new entry level DSLR with standard (18-55mm) kit lens.

No way I'd dump that much into a point and shoot.

If you don't mind used you can find them for half of that.

An IPhone ain't bad, I thought about a point and shoot but the phone is as good or better than most cheaper cameras.

Lots of happy 7200 shooters out there and I'm sure your pops will be one of them.

Camera choice would also depend on the size . Compact or big and bulky ..........

Yes, LOTS of great cameras available for much less than $300. 

 

Like handguns, it's the gun you're carrying at the time you need it.  A S&W pocket snub nose is more likely to be with you that a S&W 629 or Kimber 1911.

 

Little P&S cameras have their place, right in your pocket.

I Have the Canon PowerShot SX30IS Good all around camera, Great clear pics, Micros and long distance, Im happy i spent the money, I dont have time to mess with the DSLR cams, But then again im young and just wanted an all around good camera,

I have thousands of dollars invested in a full frame DSLR, L-series lens, etc. Yet, most of my pictures are taken with my iPhone. I simply don't want to lug around all the heavy and expensive equipment on top of my hunting gear. Only time I use the DSLR is when I know pictures will definitely be taken (birthday parties and events, on a vacation, etc).
