Baby squirrels

I actually held a baby squirrel it was really cute and super tiny. We gave it to a wildlife rehabilitator because it was really little and needed serious care. I can attest they are in fact born tiny and not full size as some are led to believe. What I cannot ever confirm is where are all the squirrels that die of natural causes, bet you've never seen a dead squirrel that wasn't squished on the road, or for that matter even a dead pigeon or even a baby pigeon. I am convinced they start big and fat and pooping on everything they can

When my wife and I lived upstairs from her grandmother, she had a stray cat named Smathers, everyday Smathers would sit on the picnic table waiting for a squirrel to come by ,when I would come home from work,Smathers would leave a squirrel on our porch with all 4 feet chewed off . Other then road kill ,that was the only time I would see dead ones.

Squirrels don't die unless shot, eaten or run over. I was walking my dog on a paved bike path several years ago when this squirrel didn't make a jump from limb to limb and the thing fell at least 50 ft and landed smack on the pavement with a thud that would have made you think someone was dropping a bowling ball. Well my dog was there in a matter of seconds and that squirrel ran away like it had just jumped off a stump. Up until that day I always wondered if they ever fell. Now I know they do but it doesn't matter

I thought I saw a squirrel die in front of me this winter.

A big grey came hopping through the woods with an acorn in his mouth. He finally stopped about 10 feet away from me but he didn't seem to notice me there for some reason.

Then he stood straight up on his back legs with the nut in his mouth and just froze in that pose for probably 10 seconds straight.

Then like in slow motion, he fell flat on his back and just layed there for another 10 seconds or so before popping back up again.

I started laughing out loud.... funniest damn thing I've ever seen.

When he heard me he shot up the closest tree at 90mph and started barking like mad!

The pictures didn't convey the story of what had happened or I'd have posted them.

Rescued one that was poisoned in a boat and got it back to health.  Released it once it was able to fend for itself.  My buddy kept it feed all year long and was able to hand feed him and his friends.  Grays I like but those dam red ones keep giving up my position in the woods!

40 years ago one of my brothers brought home a baby red squirrel. My sister who's afraid of every animal friended it. She would feed it , it would climb my folks curtains etc. She loved that thing and no other critter since . My brothers had pet coons , dogs n cats for my folks. Nope ,only fuzzy creature she ever admired. Trying to think of his name ...
