Later this month or early next month the wife & I are going to Tupper Lake for a few nights.  We want to see Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain for sure but do you guys have anything else you can tell me about that we might be interested in?

Places to eat that you like ?

Sporting goods (GUNS!) stores of note?

Old Forge?

It's been 30 years since I've been up that way and that was a deer hunt that didn't pan out......................

TIA

I don't think there is anything at all in Tupper, you should focus on Saranac and Placid. There is a casino in Malone

Casino in Malone NY? Where?

I agree, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid are the touristy areas. Also if you just want to get a day at a nice beach check out Meacham State Park.

That's a good drive from Malone. My g/f's grandmother has a camp in Malone near the preserve. Been there a few times. Beautiful country. But, if you want attractions for the family, Malone isn't it unless you want to hike and fish. If in that area I suggest the Paul Smith Visitation Center, great place to take the family on a hike.

We were just up to lake Placid for 2 nights, Monday - Wednesday.  Also, we went to White face mountain as well on that trip. BUT, the elevator to get to the top is broke. If you want to get to the top, you'll have to walk up the 1/10 mile path they have made. Quite the climb up, but pretty dangerous on the way back down due to the slippery rock surfaces used as steps.

We were told that come next spring, they will be installing a new elevator to replace the current one that is broke down now. Better hang onto those rails on your way up and back down!!!20160712_120529_zpskhdfax3i.jpeg

As already mentioned, check out https://www.wildcenter.org/?gclid=CL6w9cTh-s0CFYwfhgodgKYIIg

We were up that way a bunch of years ago and came up about a month short of their initial opening and have not been back to Tupper Lake since. But the site noted above looks like we missed a great place to visit. If you are going to be there, it would be a shame to miss it .... I think.
