We had best figure out how to do a snow dance! This is what we will need this coming winter if there is to be any relief for NY forests.  A winter of snows and melts snows and melts. Want to talk succession growth in forests?Well let's talk of succession death. This is what I have been watching with the lack of not only this summer's rains, but a few winters of lighter than usual snows. You not only have the less established undergrowth dying back,a lack of seed germination, but mature timber stressed. Stressed trees are opens to bug infestations, fungal attacks diseases.

I feel bad for the deer population for they are the ones that will take the blame for this. When you can't control a major source of a problem.then to ease your minds blame the next best one on the list you might control.

A light drizzle here right now . If it would only keep it up until morning ....... oops , just heard the "rolling thunder" .

I have a couple of pork butts in the smoker and have an umbrella over the top plus I put a plastic container over the heat / time digital control that was suggested in a video . I have had the meat in since about 8 am . It's looking good but only 140 degrees so far . When it gets to 160 I can take it out and tinfoil it and cook for another 3 hours or so . My wife bought a 8.8 pound pork shoulder and before putting it in the smoker , I had to cut it in half to be able to handle it . My arms smell like smoke .

Throw them in a crockpot after their smoked.  . NO pulling needed. Ill only do them that way from now on. Usually have in crockpot anywhere from 8-15 hours. Can't over tender them. Bone pulls out. Stir with a spoon and it's shredded. You'll thank me later.
