Do gun laws make us safe?

Nothing for nothing, but one of the main reasons for the second amendment was for the public to be able to overthrow a tyrannical government if it ever needed to. Pretty sure our semi auto AR-15 with 30 rounds aren't doing much against uncle Sam's drones and full auto weapons. They are basically passing so much regulation in major cities to make it so hard to get a gun no one wants to even bother anymore basically letting the general public disarm themselves on their own. Switzerland I believe has one of the highest gun ownership percentages per capita in the world with some of the lowest crime, The problem in my eyes aren't guns, it is the current laws and other issues that go unaddressed.

The modern assault rifle and high capacity magazines are designed to kill the maximum amount of people in the shortest amount of time and serve no other legitimate use and should not be allowed to be sold to or possessed by the public. Furthermore I would be willing to bet that not a single one of you would chose such a weapon as your hunting rifle.

There is a reason they are popular among hunters and unless you have shot one you should not speak of them...and if you have shot one and don't think I it's a good hunting rifle then i have to assume that it gave you PTSD like that reporter and you should not be allowed to own any firearms period as they may hurt you bc they are scary

I used to live there and that's basically correct. Most male citizens also own a government issued fully automatic AR with a 20 round magazine as military service is compulsory. The thing is these weapons serve no purpose in civilian life. I can't say that I ever missed my AR or even my handgun after getting rid of them.

With all of those dangerous weapons laying around and high capacity clips. I really would love to know why we have these mass shootings and they don't. I think jamming down legislation without really doing a good study and understanding the route cause is making people more disgruntled and adding to the growing powder keg.

Lighter easier to handle (maneuverable) many more calibers to chose from that in 2 seconds bolt on to reciever...faster follow up shot if needed. The list goes on and on...

Its not the laws or abundance of them,.... its a gangster culture that we have going on here.  There are likely just as many guns in the US per capita now as there was when I was growing up.  Difference is now (IMO) that we are culturally desensitized to violence.  I think this has a lot to do with it,... blame the movies, the video games, IDK.  How about people being responsible for each other and saying something as things go astray.  Very few people wake up on a random Tuesday and mass murder a school.  You can't tell me that someone wasn't being an ostrich while the warning lights were going off!  So how is that NYS I feel very unSAFE Act working.  Why not ask Cuomo's buddy who was offed at the West Indian Parade last year by a gang banger with a gun.  But hell more laws,.... layer them on.

Nothing really except being semi-auto it's a soft shooter, and it's very accurate. It's cheaper than some of the alternatives (like a BAR or M-1), and way more accurate than a mini-14. I like the "barbie doll" aspect of decking it out with accessories. Also, I was a machinist by trade for many years, so to me it's not ugly, it looks "techy" Heavy as heck though. 

It's not better, just different.

Hmmmm....Wooden stocks and black barrels. AK? SKS? So, they must not be included and be acceptable because thay have wood stocks? Good to know, I know what's on my X-Mas list this year now.

 

As for mass murder, in close quarters an auto loading handgun with a 15 shot mag would do less damage? LOL

 

I will have to say this, to allow one gun to be banned due to criminals you better ban them all. and some tasks force going to get that actual Military Grade weapons off the street. Oh wait, criminals can have guns, law abiding citizens can't.

I really have no respect for anyone who thinks killing LEO's is OK, the banning of any firearm is OK, or would stand behind a criminal's to run our country. If you are Anti-American you should leave. Not just this clown, all of them.

I also no longer trust anyone who has chosen the side of ruining this country. Or worse, turning it into a country lead by dictators and tyrants.

 

The gun law debate is not a friendly one. But, here's my thoughts;

If you are for even one gun being banned, you may as well be for all guns being banned. The Constitution gives me the right to bear arms. It does not say I should be restricted. I agree there is no reason the average citizen should be allowed to own full auto or grenade launchers. I do agree with NICS, while not perfect it does screen and has probably kept more the a few hundred felons from lying on a simple piece of paper. I just don't get why so many people want to tell other people what they have a right to own.

If you want to ban the AR or like style rifles, then ban the color black from all vehicles and window tint. While the recent mass shootings were done with what the media has pinned as "assault weapons", take a look back at how many people even children have been killed by shotguns and pistols being fired from black cars/SUV's with very dark window tint. You might know this from the 'media' as a "drive-by".

Back in the 70's there were plenty of black semi auto's being sold in this country, and plenty of large cap mags too.  Lots of large cap semi auto pistols too.  They weren't sold in hunting stores though.  They were sold in "Gun Stores".  They were also perfectly legal and target shooters loved them and bought them, no matter how expensive.

We had AR's, AK's, Valmets, H&K's and Uzi's too.  We also had M1 Carbines, Garands, Thompsons and M14's as well.  All were semi-auto and legal and they were considered cool.

There were no mass shootings though.  Until that idiot Charles Whitman climbed into that tower at the Univ of Texas anyway.  And he used a bolt action with a scope.  A DEER rifle!

Anyone of you who thinks the gun grabbers will be happy if they can take away these military look alike semi autos is in denial.  They are not going to stop until all "gun violence", which is not caused by law abiding, responsible gun owners, stops.

Do any of you think it's going to stop?  Neither will the gun grabbers.

It's not that we have these semi auto rifles today that's the problem.  The problem is the people we have inhabiting our country today that have no fear of killing lots of people.  And if they can't get a rifle to do it, they will improvise.  Remember the tractor trailer mass killing recently?  How about fertilizer bombs and pressure cookers?  How about Anthrax?  It's the killers we need to stop, not the rifles we may need to defend ourselves with if total economic collapse occurs and we all get to see what a lawless society is really like.  Survival will be the only thing that counts and a good semi auto with lots of ammo may be the one thing you need more than anything to survive.

The one other thing we have now we did not have in the 70's is a government so corrupt, it doesn't trust it's people and wants them disarmed.  That can only mean they desire total control.  What do you think they want total control for?  Too make America great again?  I don't think so.

So, if you think the 2nd Amendment doesn't protect your right to own a semi-auto with large cap mags, you might as well get on your knees now and get used to being controlled.

I have to call BS on this post.  The Swiss Army uses the SG550 Assault Rifle which is full automatic.  They do not us America AR's.  If this upper Manhattan person really lived there he would know this.  It's also only his 9th post on this hunting site.  I smell a troll.

I am no troll Rattler. You are correct that the rifle is an SG550. I used AR as acronym for Assault Rifle, not saying that they use a US rifle. It doesn't make any difference in the argument I think.

It's not an argument, it's a debate.  I also find it interesting you claim to have had the opportunity to play with a fully automatic firearm, yet claim you never missed it after getting "rid" of it.

I've never met any "gun guy" that wouldn't miss a fully automatic rifle once in his possession.

Either you really do not like firearms, or you're flinging BS.  I don't know you, but I do not believe you.

No offense, but be specific on these matters. It does make a difference. A huge difference. An AR is not for all intensive purposes, an "assault weapon". It's a semi auto sporting rifle. Just like the 10/22 or others. It just looks different. But, you just did the same thing everyone else does. Put the AR or other platforms of the like in the the "bad gun" category.

I don't have strong feelings about this and I don't advocate banning any type of weapon. But really after firing thousands of rounds In my time in the army with a full auto rifle I just don't find much fun in it anymore. But that's just me.
