so this buck was shot down south opening day......45 minutes on watch and he was down.......story to be told was my old lady was sitting right next to me and she was 9 months pregnant with our son.....2 days later she went into labor......he was chasing a doe and I made a shot happen at the right moment.....the picture makes him look a little smaller then what he is but again he is no monster but a trophy between me and her and we also felt we were together as a family even though he was in her stomach....I get him back in 3 days so I will post the pictures.....I had him mounted in full sneak to show how we first saw him when we saw him chasing the doe.....I cant find at the moment a better picture....hope I didn't bore anyone

idea is when you look up at it the story comes to mind. my first buck was a 6 pt like your other one.  I think my dad was happier than I was.  I've got an 8 pointer that mark the first buck I saw and then solely hunted.  it was the biggest on the farm at the time but I was more happy with the history behind it.  dad and brother scouted it before the season.

Never worry about pleasing someone else! That is a legal buck. And a very nice one!

Does anyone think I should have passed this buck?  this was state land!  Either way it was a great memory

The only person you need to ask, "should I have passed this buck" is yourself. There comes a time with some hunters, after killing a number of smaller bucks , that they feel the need to challenge themselves to shoot something bigger than they have in the past. That's fine. Or you just want to put delicious venison in your freezer, and any deer will do. That's fine too! We all hunt for different reasons, goals and challenges. You buy your tag, keep within the game laws and hunt your way. Never feel pressured to do anything that does not make hunting a fun and enjoyable experience for YOU! It's all good!

great read all hunts are what you make of it ...when I was 17 I had the chance of a life time to kill a huge 10  easy 150 class up in Westchester are I had the deer  20 yrd broadside but I was shaking so bad I could not draw the bow back  . this was the buck we called mr smith .. I was not able to harvest the deer but I was able to see him so close. to this day he is my trophy there is no pics  but a good story to tell at the table....

I read the title of this thread quickly, and thought it said "A lot of meaning to this BUCKET". I was reading the story and was waiting for an explanation of the bucket in the picture, and almost missed the point.

Nice deer and great memories!

Never let anyone tell you what you should shoot. If it's legal, you're good. Only you know what a good buck is to you.

ps, the buck in my avatar pic is a 10 point I got last year on opening morning. Was my best buck to date, but not a huge rack (looks bigger in the photo). A pretty good friend and neighbor told me he had passed on it during bow season.

I told him "thanks dude, I couldn't have done it without you".

I did make him some jerky though!
