Authorities: Hunter dies after accidentally shooting himself

BUSTI, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a man has died after accidentally shooting himself while hunting in a rural town in New York state's southwest corner.

Fire department officials in Busti in Chautauqua County say crews responded around 12:50 p.m. Monday after receiving a call about a hunting accident in the rural town located on the Pennsylvania border 60 miles southwest of Buffalo.

Officials say it took emergency responders using all-terrain vehicles several minutes to locate the man in a heavily wooded area. Authorities say he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

The man's name hasn't been released.

His death is being investigation by local police and the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

What the hell?  This year seems like not a lot of deer have been killed but hunters are trending upward.

Wait until the full reports come out that list the wounding incidents. I knew that we have been having it too easy for too long and too much was being made of the years when we have been able to brag about how safe recent years have been. It seems like maybe we have gotten a bit complacent.

Still most deaths  from hunting happen from heart attacks and falling from tree stands I read ,

Keep in mind .

One hunting  death is already too many.
