Benefits for a part time gig? It makes me sick. Why should they get any better treatment than the rest of us. This happens right down to county level too. There are so many things that need to be changed but how do we get it done in a liberal state when the ones that would have to pass the change would be impacted by it. It is like asking the man in the electric chair to throw the switch....they aren't gonna do it.....and no offense guys but having down state as part of us makes it all the harder

I have a hard time visualizing a bicycle registration.  Exactly how will it be enforced?  Will cops be stopping every adult and kid on a bike on neighborhood streets and parks to check if it is registered?  Just wait until a cop doesn't get to a serious crime scene in time because he was issuing an 8 year old a summons.  Unlike motorized vehicles bikes don't wear down highways or pollute the environment.  Citizens should be encouraged to use bicycles where practical and not discouraged.  Never mind the health benefits one could get by riding one.

I think many hiking trails in NYS are actually maintained by private organization and volunteers.  I don't think the DEC spends a great deal on trails in comparison to most things they need to handle.

The idea behind this is a reaction to those cyclists within the city (namely Manhattan) who do not and will not obey the rules of the road. It is a problem. If you have ever driven in Manhattan you would realize this. The NYPD does issue summons to cyclists who do not obey the traffic laws.

While the proposed law is outrageous, in the end it will be tailored to those who cycle on Public Streets.

The problem is that most cyclists are ignorant to the rules of the road. The proposed law is aimed at educating all who cycle to the laws already in place which were enacted  to protect them, the cyclists and the public at large. NYC has miles of bike lanes to accommodate cyclists and to insure their safety. It is a shame that many disregard the law (rules of the road) and put both pedestrian and vehicular traffic at risk.

Then give those people summonses.  I don't think a kid who may only ride on a sidewalk or other recreational cyclists should need to be paying extra dollars to get bicycles registered.  How many people have bicycles run over and killed?  I can't imagine there were too many.  Not even a fraction of how many cars or guns have killed although I do understand that reckless riders can injure people.  I think most bicycle deaths involve the person riding it.  So if the riders themselves aren't careful, they are the ones who will probably be suffering the most from their recklessness.

We had 3 people killed on bicycles here in Chemung Co. last year.  One was a hit-n-run.  The young man was riding on the side of the road, with traffic (albeit on a dark evening) and decapitated because the driver hit him so hard (it's not always the cyclists fault).

At the rate gasoline prices are rising I think we'll see a LOT more bikes on the roadways.  ???

A similar bill was proposed in NJ two months ago.  It never even got to the floor.  There was such an outcry the woman who proposed, it pulled it.

These bills do serve as evidence of the tax, spend and control attitude of the Democrats.  These oppressive bills always come from that party.  How can people not see they want to be King.

These bills fail because the lawmakers that create them are so far out of touch with reality that they believe them to be reasonable.  But they are not reasonable, they are radical.....and therefore fail.
