I just spent the afternoon scrubbing down the JD990...This will be the first grub getter, next one will be scrubbing out the old grease and dirt, then a final go over and a wax . That I'll do just before Mr B. does a oil and grease job on it...good thing she's going in for a paint job...There are a few rust issues one being around the tire valves and inside rims. What a job! So many little nooks and crannies...my hands are about shot  along with my back...

Was just outside and heard the peepers for the first time this year. Still not going to allow myself to get over excited that Spring is here. Seen to many a time when we got a good size snowstorm in April. I will be putting the snowblower away this weekend, but the snow shovel will stay by the front steps until at least the start of turkey season.

Sometimes signs of spring come early. When doing land work any good days for non field outdoor prep work is a sign of spring. Yep calling for snow on Friday...just means one last chance to frost seed with temps. due to hit 28. Can't use the tractor yet so the heavy harrow drag is coming out with a log tied to it on the Gator.I'll do some weed /moss ripping...then lay down some lime in a couple of areas. My peas need to go in this week and I'm way behind starting all my garden brassica, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower,Brussels sprouts.

My head is more than a hat rack . Snowbrush still in car. Chance of snow on Friday  July 4th marked on calendar to take it out

You take your snow brush/ scraper out of your vehicle?  I never even considered that.  Must be a "Southern" thing!

I ice fished on Sunday.  There was still 8" of ice, but most of it was punky.  That will do it for me.  I pounded the bluegills and got a 9lb pike.  It was a fat female, and I released it.  All my pics are on my "dumb" phone, and can't transfer them to the computer.

I'm looking forward to peepers too.  The red-wing blackbirds came back during the thaw in early March, before the last two snowstorms.  Guess they weren't the sure-fire sign of spring I had hoped for.  This week's rain will probably wake the peepers up, and get rid of the snow that is still in the woods here.

There was still a foot at the farm last time I was there, so it will be awhile yet in the hill country.  I still have time to prune some apple trees over there.  I'm itching to start my apple orchard here, as well as do some woodlot cleanup and food plot prep.

Happy April folks.

Yeah, the peepers are screeching up a storm. I have heard they have to be frozen three times before winter weather is finally done. Well, I haven't been counting this year. But between them and the warmer days, I have been engaged in the first signs of spring around our place. That is raking all the stones and gravel off the edges of the grass where the snowplow left them. Wish I could afford 1000' of macadam driveway.
