WNYBuckHunter
So for my daughters birthday, I am buying her a dedicated turkey gun that will fit her better than my 12 gauge does. Im probably going with the Mossberg 500 that has the adjustable stock and turkey choke. It has fiber optic sights already, but Id like to set it up with optics for her so that she can be on target faster, and be able to hit birds at closer range with the super tight pattern of the choke. What would you guys recommend for this? Red Dot? Holo sight? Actual scope? Ill probably be picking up a turkey gun for myself this year, so whatever I get for her optics wise, is probably going to go on mine as well. Uncle Nicky
I use a Bushnell shotgun scope, I like the fact that you can adjust magnification and check out beard size and head color with it, my eyes just aren't what they used to be. Just be careful not to get your face too close to the scope when you shoot, LOL.
Doewhacker
I popped a Red Dot 2x on my 870 last off season, I like it so far. I wanted it for the close range and long range shots as well as slugs shall I ever want too. I also like the fiber optic ring that clamps on the rib, that opens use up to water fowl or upland should the opportunity present it self.

I was also thinking about the Holo sight because they are very light weight. The less weight Haley is hauling around, the longer she will be able to go.
LET EM GROW
I've shot a Red Dot for years, absolutely love it. Right now all of my turkey setups have a Red dot, besides one(Single bead). I Thought about trying a scope some year just to say i did it but, between i love a single bead, and or the Red Dot.
turkeyfeathers
Bushnell circle x scope on my gun. Bushnell T that glows red or green on daughters I know lots of guys love Burris fast fire. They're pretty pricey I do believe though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They weigh nothing. And they allow very precise aiming and the ability to center your pattern. I have used scopes illuminated red dots with and without magnification and until a new type of optic comes out the only thing on my turkey guns will be a halo sight. I have a trijicon RMR dual illum on mine because it doesn't take batteries. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Five Seasons
I originally had a Mueller reflex on my 835. after 2 of them cracked (probably from the 3.5") shells i switched to a bushnell t35 (it's t something i forget exactly). Mueller was good and replaced both, but i sold the second one. The bushnell is kind of like a mini-scope/reflex and i like it a lot. Only thing I wish i could due would be to change the reticle to a crosshair. The only option is a red dot at various levels of brightness. The Mueller also had an auto-bright that i liked. alloutdoors
Reflex sights are the way to go, especially for young or new shooters. With a reflex sight as long as you can see the dot, that is where the shot is going, even when shooting from awkward positions where you can't get a good cheek weld. If you have the money, the Burris FastFire is a great combination of quality, size and cost. Yes, it's more expensive than some Wal-Mart special that will probably fall apart after a box of turkey loads, but it's a bargain compared to something like EOTech.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
turkeyfeathers
Na , Fast fire will hold up. Done much research on oldgobbler site. There's some serious turkey killers over there and nothing but good things to say about Burris Fast fire. WNYBuckHunter
So I think Ill probably go with the reflex sight for both of us. The Bushnell will probably be the choice for her gun, and I think Ill be going with the Vortex Viper or Venom for mine. Im not putting a $350 optic on a kids gun, even though she is a pretty responsible, careful person.
turkeyfeathers
Here's daughters Bushnell optics. They're like an Agog guys run on AR's. There's a T with a dot where T meets. Green or red and can dim or crank up brightness. I personally love it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The FastFire is what I run on my M2. If you've done that much reading on OG you've probably seen some of my posts recommending it to people there too. dbHunterNY
i've got a Burris Speed Bead on my Benelli that i use for more than just turkey hunting. it's a Burris Fast Fire II on a mount with shim replacer that's between the receiver and the buttstock. it's 1.5X i believe but pretty minimal reflex style with an auto dimming "red dot". if the batteries die i can still look through it and use the stock bead. it definitely helps get on target quicker though. also doesn't matter who you are or how you're leaning back against a tree: your shot cluster is going where ever the bead/dot is. you wouldn't guess how much cant and other stuff moves your point of impact until you see it.

I don't know how they would hold up on a shotgun but the round count is way lower so they may last better.Having owned a bunch of different ones I highly suggest staying away from anything with a battery, they will fail eventually.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Such as they tend to bust up. 3.5" turkey loads sure will put a pounding on them. I read somewhere that 3.5" turkey loads is one of the most recoil rounds one can shoot of all guns. Were these on your 10 mm ? And now I'm confused. There's holographic optics that don't use batteries? Many a birds have tipped over with my Bushnell turkey scope but I'd be up for trying something new. Now that I finally grasp on how to dial in lol. The Glocks eat up optics because of the slamming they take from the slides.
