Close call

A friend of mine who uses his harness had a very close call yesterday afternoon.  He said he always gets in his hang on stand then turns around and the hooks the harness.  It is 22' up and he said he never hooks up first before stepping onto the stand but for some unknown reason he did this time. Good thing because he stepped on the stand and then turned around to place the pad on the seat and it gave way leaving him 22' up the tree hanging by the harness as the stand hit the ground.  He was able to shinny down to safely some how.

Climber or ladderstand for me. Hang on stands scare the crap out of me now. Good luck to your friend.

Man glad he’s alright and something told him to hook up before transferring onto the platform. Crazy how things like that happen.

Glad he made it OK..this is why my hang on stands are chained and strapped....never seen a chain fail.

I just added life lines to all my stands , never a time being unhooked that way.

In my 20's and 30's I used hang-on stands quite a bit. No issues Thank God, but they are hairy getting on and off. Now ladder stands and blinds are my choice. Glad he's fine, close call. My boys use them now , I'll relay this to them maybe they remember. I hope!

Glad he is ok, but damn! 22 feet up!! I saw a guy once that was twice that high. I told him he was an idiot. My ladder stands are from 12 feet to 17 feet and they are plenty high enough. Most of my hunting and kills come from the 12 footer which is my number one stand.
