Core
Anybody who's gone to field & stream and given them their email gets regular ads to the inbox of various deals. It's still the only vendor I tolerate this from (because sometimes the deals are not bad). However, for two years now I've noticed they constantly advertise "up to 40-50% off" and it's a lie 99% of the time. Case in point "today" this crossbow for $150: https://www.fieldandstreamshop.com/p/barnett-recruit-recurve-crossbow-package-16bt2urcrtrcrv4x3abw/16bt2urcrtrcrv4x3abw?color=Black Regular price $299. That's just not true. I don't think they have sold this thing for $299 in months, and perhaps not ever. I've seen it for $179 maybe, it's always sub $200. Always always always. Their barnett crossbows are never, ever what they claim the normal price is. From time to time companies do get fined over advertising a sales price when the original price isn't real: https://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/fake-sales-trick-customers-major-stores-study-says-n366676 They do this with a bunch of other stuff also. This is my favorite example of them lying. This tree stand for $59: https://www.fieldandstreamshop.com/p/field-stream-lookout-15-ladder-stand-16fnsafslktxxxxxxtsb/16fnsafslktxxxxxxtsb "Was $119.99". Haha, really? This thing is always $59. Maybe it hits $69 once in a blue moon...? Anyone ever seen this for $70? Hell no. https://www.fieldandstreamshop.com/p/field-stream-hunter-hang-on-treestand-16fnsafshntrxxxxxtsb/16fnsafshntrxxxxxtsb?recid=Product_PageElement_product_rr_2_1393_&rrec=true
Robhuntandfish
it is a sales tactic some stores use for sure. IE JC Pennys for years everything was on sale from 20-60% off. They would put the "real price" number on there to make you think your getting a deal when really it was never that price.
vizslas
dicks has the same hang on listed at $69 for sale at $39.99.
Spook
OMFG.... I know right????? When gander mountain was selling off at 50,60, and 70% off, it was because they marked everything up 150 to 200% to start. I shopped the Plattsburgh store 30 or so times. A normal priced box of UMC 9mm for like $10 was on sale for $24 from $30. I asked the “are you FN kidding me” question a few times. The day they finally shut the doors, I did make out like a bandit. Diamond bow for my daughter, bow stabilizer, climber stand add ons, RCBS rock chucker kit, 3 sets of Rage broad heads, and other stuff....... Paid less than $150. I did get a sauasage stuffer for dirt cheap compared to anywhere else. I have been watching them for a long time and had yet to find a stainless steel 20lbs. stuffer for under $200 I paid $169.99. Other than that and some reloading brass, and some trolling spoons their prices were 50% and 60% off MSRP not regular price. I was pretty disappointed by the lack of sales on guns. I went in there as soon as the sale began and the amount they were asking for guns still was no more than $20 off what most shops sell them for. If I ask where I normally shop they will usually drop 10% off. He has sold me guns for just a little above cost and once for less than cost. Great shop and seem to really know their stuff. Just wish they would start carrying reloading powder so it would be a one stop shop for me. 17 minutes ago, Core said: Anybody who's gone to field & stream and given them their email gets regular ads to the inbox of various deals. growalot
Your grocery stores do the same thing...I got ticked and called read the riot act on Tops head quarters in Buffalo....They sent coupons ...Lol.. Send your post to the BBB and ask if it's legal also the attorney General ask legality...Not that it would ever make a difference...You'd be better off getting a Facebook,Twitter, thing going and ppl talking about it on a wide scale to change anything. Ok so I need $8k, thanks

Five Seasons
i thought i had an account with them, because i have the same email. i know i have a dicks account. but it wont let me sign in, create an account OR reset my password. keep getting an error. there are some nice vortex 12x50's that would be well priced at $50 off. annoying that i cant even login. a lot of times what i'll do during these flash sales is just google shop the same thing and often i find the sale isn't even a good one. If you pay more at signing it's a lot less. Essentially whatever the sticker is vs the residual value is what you need to pay each month. Leases are all about what payment you're comfortable with. And honestly you should be putting as little down as they'll let you. If you wreck that car the next day you lose all the money down. It's not like buying. They sucker the ignorant with the low payments. Edited October 30, 2017 by Belo

Where they screw people is when they're taking on 4% interest to that ridiculous loan. I had a used car dealer offer me 8% a while back. I went to my bank and got 2.9%. They countered at 1.9% lol. this was only 36 months, but it's just funny what they try and get away with.
dbHunterNY
we picked up a 48" TV from an online only ad for an in-sale store. pre-black friday but treated it the same. showed up early. sales people tired of waiting. as we rolled out with the tv the manager came over out of breathe saying the sale hasn't techically started yet and the rest had to wait! i was already cashed out. lol
Core
My last few cars were leased. I got close to 0% rate on them and bought one out later and got another loan at 2.5% for another several years. At rates like that it just makes no sense to buy outright even if you have the cash. For a number of years now it's been possible to get incredible prices on leasing new vehicles, like $200-250 for an altima (or similar price/vehicle) without a penny out of pocket. New car, no worry about repairs, depreciation already comes out of that payment, etc. I figure the luxury of driving new cars vs an old one is costing me net about $100/month per car. I got this from slickeals forum. A couple years ago a bunch of us went to best buy before black friday and bought a specific TV for $300 or was it $350 using our citicards. Then black friday comes along and we already had known the tv was on a BF deal for $150. We used citi's "30 day price match", which unbelivably and stupidly even works with BF deals, sent the ad to citi, got the difference. I ended up getting a 50" tv for $150 and not standing in any lineups.

Yes sometimes the good financing deals come without the discounts. That's why you might see 0% for 60 months OR $2k cash back. You have to do the math based on what you can afford to pay monthly and it probably ends up being close. If you can pay cash on $40k truck, of course take the cash back. But maybe don't take the cash back if your interest rate nets you more than $2k in interest payments over the life of the loan. watch the price of the vehicle throughout the year and always start with the final payment and then discuss financing/leasing. This way the sticker doesn't move. Trucks this time of a year are a good example of discounted price and good rates. it's like a mortgage these days. Few can pay for it all at once, so you pay in the end to ease the financial burden. Edited October 30, 2017 by Belo
