Steve D
One of my most cherished possessions was a ugly stick ultralight fishing pole with a light spinning reel. One time while bass fishing opening weekend in the islands with some friends I accidently threw it over the side. After a thousand casts and who knows how many beers. When I made the cast the handle hit the rail on the side of the boat and took it right out of my hand to the bottom of the St. Lawrence. I have regretted that incident and missed that pole every since. One other time while ice fishing trying to clean out a hole my spud went to the bottom of the lake because I didn.t have a rope tied to it. Other than a couple of coonhounds that always came back that is about it for me.
Uncle Nicky
Not big ticket per se, but it wound up costing a small fortune. About 10 years ago, I lost my keys while scouting at my camp in Allegany county. I had to pay for a tow, a bribe (tow truck driver wasn't supposed to go off road), a new electronic key for my truck, and a room in Hornell while I waited for the Dodge dealer to open and make me a new key. NEVER again, I ALWAYS leave my keys back at the truck now, and never locked inside. Last fall in Nebraska I set my dog's GPS collar and receiver on the back bumper of my truck. I drove to town to get gas, miraculously the receiver stayed on the bumper, but the collar was gone. The next day, when it was light, I tried backtracking, and about 2 miles from the ranch on the highway, the collar was laying in the road. It hadn't been run over that I could tell, and worked fine. I felt VERY lucky that day. Edited January 25, 2018 by Uncle Nicky
Robhuntandfish
Lost my innocence to a cute redhead on a porch right on Oneida lake, and really don't ever expect to find it again. Been a sucker for redheads ever since. 5
Pygmy
I never realized that wedding bands were such a popular item to lose UNINTENTIONALLY... I lost mine in a muskrat hole, or thereabouts...I was setting traps and feeling in undercut pond banks for den entrances..When I got home, my wedding ring was gone, no doubt lying in the mud in some muskrat hole....Never replaced it...About 30 years later I got divorced, so I did not need it anymore, anyhow ....

I did lose my briefly as well. As I was packing up, I noticed it was gone. Dug around the ground where I was. Comb the entire area. Finally, I decide to check my backpack and found it there. Apparently as I was stuffing my sweater into the pack, when I pulled my hand out, it pulled the ring off.
