Looks like you found a Berkeley's Polypore. Young tender specimens are supposed to be edible, but can start to become tough as they mature just like chickens and dryads saddle.

Another question Predate:

I found these baby hens (poults of the woods???) and left them. How quickly do they grow up?





I’m going to need to hit the timing right since they are right on the path and I saw evidence of another forager in there today.
