goosifer
Day 4 (1/17) Only a half day's drive from Daytona Beach to Fort Lauderdale. Traffic is crazy on the 95. You have to go 10+ miles above the speed limit just to avoid getting rammed from behind. Had a nice breakfast at Monkey Morning Cafe in Daytona and dinner at Nabu American Fusion Buffet in Fort Lauderdale (in What's for dinner thread). South Florida is a little more crowded from what we remember 7-8 years ago.

After the cruise, when we are in cities for 4-5 days at a time, we can be more adventurous. Hope to have some stone crabs soon. After the cruise, we will be in Naples, Ft. Myers, St. Petersburg, St. Augustine and Savannah, GA. Any recommendations? I can't recommend this place enough, it's in Venice. goosifer
Day 5 (1/18) Had a nice day visiting extended family in Ft. Lauderdale. Had lunch at a good Italian restaurant, Umberto's of Long Island, with the elderly widowed husband of my first cousin once removed on my father's side. Sheesh, at least I think I got it right. He told me stories of things that happened before I was born. For dinner, met my elderly first cousin once removed on my mother's side and his wife at Islamorada Fish Company, which is owned by and attached to the Bass Pro Outdoor World. The food quality was poor, unfortunately. He also got to tell me stories from when before I was born and I got to practice my French with his wife. Cruised the Bass Pro store before dinner. Nice store with nice displays, but there idea of "clearance" is 33% off. I could have bought a fishing hat for $4, but passed as I just bought one the night before.

Just some pics of the other boats as we were leaving the port, and of our room. Nothing else exciting so far. We did win a bottle of wine at name that tune trivia last night.

phade
Day 3 (1/16) Drove from Fayetteville, NC to Daytona Beach today. Had a good lunch at Shoney's. I tell ya, South Carolina has the friendliest and most polite people you will ever meet. But driving through it on I-95 is monotonous and boring. The drive through Georgia was uneventful. Then we drove into sunny Florida where everybody is going 10+ miles over the speed limit of 70, and no one's turn signals are working. Mrs. Goose let me drive for most of that action. Made it to Daytona Beach and drove by the race track. After checking into the hotel, we had dinner at a restaurant called Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen Homestyle comfort food. But the attention grabber on the menu was their signature drink called "The Painkiller". Limit 2 per person. Mrs. Goose had to have one. She let me have a taste. Cheddars is real good and priced very well for what you get.The painkiller is a drink created on Jost Van Dyke in the BVIs.Here is the origin story location: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
phade
In St. Pete area: Go to the Hurricane grill/restaurant in Pass-a-Grille for the sunset at the rooftop bar. Really nice. There are a few really nice food places on the main drag (Gulf Blvd) going down through Indian Rocks, Redington Beach, etc. There's actually three really nice options. People are very loyal to which one they go to...Salt Rock Grill. I like Conch Republic. I forget the third...maybe called Aqua or something along those lines. A good Italian restaurant is called Bellissimo. It's on S. Belcher. It's not a fancy, nor low-brow. A genuine good original Italian food experience.

goosifer
Our stop in Cayman Islands was cancelled. Waves too choppy to tender safely. So we left early and are headed for Columbia. Wish I had something interesting or exciting to share, but really don't. We've just been hanging out eating, drinking, reading and playing trivia. Lot's of old people on this cruise. I'm probably in the bottom 10% age-wise. Will have some good pics and stories after Columbia on Wednesday.

Hope you don't get caught in the latest storm. When we drive down, we go East into Delaware and Virginia to avoid the hills of West Virginia. We then go though High Point, NC to avoid getting on the 95 as much as we can. We don't get on 95 until Florence, SC. Safe travels. See you on the 8th. Give me a time for us to meet at the restaurant.
goosifer
OK, so our cruise was pretty lame overall. But for the record, I will lay out what little we did and post some pics. Day 6 (1/19) Left FLL. Posted some pics of the boat and the shore by the port. (See previous post above.) Day 7 (1/20) Sea day. Our routine was eat, drink coffee, play trivia for the most part Day 8 (1/21) Was supposed to be stop in Cayman Island, but the waters were too rough to tender ashore. So we just kept going Day 9 (1/22) Sea day. Formal night. After packing dress clothes, Mrs. Goose decided she didn't want to bother dressing up. Not that I'm complaining. So we bailed on the dining room and just ate in the cafeteria. In fact, we ate most of our meals in the cafeteria. We didn't get an assigned seating time for dinner, so we had to do "Anytime Dining", where you basically wait for a spot at the next available table with different people each time. Day 10 Cartegena, Columbia We did an excursion that was labelled a food tour, but turned out different and better in some ways. First part was on a small tour boat cruising the coastline of the city. Think mini-Miami. Next part was a lame, too short tour of the old part of Categena. Kind of like Puerto Rico or even St. Augustine, if you've ever been to those places. The area was clean with lots of shops and restaurants. Even the street vendors needed to have a license to sell their items. Unfortunately, on our 35 minutes of free time to wander, I got us lost. Still managed to buy some coffee and overpriced, hopefully not fake Cuban cigars (for my BIL) (continued next post) Edited January 29, 2019 by goosifer
