Redtail trapping...

Recommended Posts

Got my capture authorization forms for my falconry liscense so

we got out earlier this week to try and trap a new redtail for hunting rabbits and squirrels this year. The weather couldn't have been any better. We had some time restraints, so we could only trap for a couple hours. We ended up catching one mature male and one yearling male which we released. I'm waiting to catch a nice heavy passage female for training. Hopefully nextime we'll get lucky.

Here's the setup..

Thanks guys.

agross, I've have had a Goss hawk hit the pigeon, but didn't actually catch it. I've had lots of Coopers and Sharpshins come in and buzz the pigeon but never really hit. I think they are intimidated by the size. I bet if we used a starling as bait they would probably hit it. Going aout again in the morning - supposed to have some good winds - hopefully they will be flying good. I'll post some pics if I get my female..

wow.

hats off to you, there is so much involved in falconry even on the training and paperwork level that if hunters had to go through that there would be 10 in NY total...none in VT.

the British School of Falconry is right up the road from me and I love to watch them when they are out there, its simply far FAR to big of a commitment for me to get beyond the " Wow, cool, I'd love that" stage. And that from me, who builds flintlocks from scratch, 2,000 hours or more in a finished gun, Falconry is so massively involved, weighing the birds, the housing of them, it makes catching the easy part! LOL>
