I'm a new hunter (this past season) and new to the state (this past year). Stationed at and living on West Point, in Orange County. Hunted my butt off this past season with a bow and some good friends that showed me the ropes and brought me out to some drives. Got 2 does back to back on the second to the last day of bow season here, and am doing my reading, research, scouting and practicing so I will be ready to go next year.
Found the site today trying to determine if "Deer Cane" and other attractants are illegal (and now know they are) in the state, and am glad I found the forum.
Greetings from USMA!

Hello Everyone! New member, new hunter, checking in. I live in Putnam County NY and this will be my first year hunting (I am 51). Lots to learn, and really wishing i grew up in a hunting family. Its a challenge to figure all this stuff out on your own. This forum has been a huge help.
Thanks for all of your wisdom and great posts!

Hello all. I live in New Yrok city, but have a house in Sulivan County where I spend 3 months a year. I love the outdoors. Grew up in Weschester and went hunting with my dad as a kid. Looking to get back into hunting and shooting. I have been target shooting casually with a 30-06, and a .22 rifle with scope. Also have a 12ga for home defense and skeet. Can anyone give me some suggestions on where I can do some target shooting with my 30-06?

Good afternoon to all fellow NYS Hunters. My name is Paul. I'm a city boy from the Bronx who loves the outdoors. I just started Bow Hunting, I currently own a Bowtech Assasin & practice at Pro-line archery lanes in Queens. I also own an Excalibur Vortex crossbow & am looking forward to going afield with it. Anyone know of an outdoor archery range in NYS that will allow me to sight in my crossbow?
Unfortunately for this new Bow season I have only been able to go out Hunting once & that was yesterday. I went out to Sterling Forest. I was Hunting between the sterling ridge (blue trail) & w. valley (green trail) above the Bare rock (orange trail) & although I did not Harvest any deer I seen about eight in total. One I know was a buck that could have been taken in the Antler restriction area. None came in close enough range for me to take a shot but I really enjoyed myself. I also seen 1 coyote & numerous squirrels. Along my trekking to find a good tree to climb with my lone wolf stand I found some fresh black bear tracks.
I also plan on Hunting in Suffolk County & have permission to hunt private property in Westchester. I look forward to being a member of this community & Thanks to all in advance
