Missing the Monday Opener

I really miss the Monday opener. Rush home from work, rush to camp, rush to bed, rush to your stand, boy I feel like I'm still at work! I always enjoyed the weekend before opening day, catching up with the other guys at camp, Shooting the guns one more time, checking stands and just being a part of DEER CAMP USA. If you have never been a part of a deer camp it is hard to explain what you have missed. If they decided to make opening day on a Thursday at 3:00pm, I'd be there, I wouldn't miss it for the world. Yeah! I'm crying! Good luck everyone! Be careful and have a safe and successful season.

That is why I do all that on Friday. Tajk a day off and go early Friday.

Exactly what I was thinking. Everybody used to sacrifice a day off from work/school when they had the Monday opener. So what's the problem with changing that to having everyone at camp sacrifice the prior Friday instead and extend the camp-life activities in that way.

I went to camp last night just to have a couple of cold ones and BS. Only two retired guys there. Don't get me wrong I still had fun.

I agree with Doc. Just take Thursday Friday off instead of Monday Tuesday.

Taking time off isn't a problem for me, but is is for alot of people. Camp is empty right now. I have most of the season off. The one part of the Saturday opener that I like is that most people go back to work on Monday and the woods start to quiet back down. At least in my neck of the woods.

My whole camp misses it too. We all say the same thing, rush out of work and rush up to camp, then rush to bed... Not like it used to be, I really do miss the fun weekend prior to opening day...

We compensate by saying we get an extra 2 days of hunting cause we all try to take the week off from work.

I know what some of you mean about the old Monday opener. There was something unique about it. But I tell you I rather have the 2 extra days of hunting over the old day or two of just BSing and waiting around. Plus, the Sunday before the opener all you heard was gunshots all over the place where guys who hadn't touched their guns from last year were sighting in the last minute. I honestly think the Saturday opener works out better overall.

I used to enjoy leaving a gut pile in the woods from the last weekend of bow for all of the gun hunters to find on Monday morning.

I'll take the Saturday opener any day! If anyone feels that strongly about the Monday opener, they can still sit around camp over the weekend, BS, shoot their guns in, and just wait until Monday to hunt! LOL

Well I agree I miss it also...Son just left...had to work all day then was going home to pack up...and rush to camp

I also after reading that DEC's the Saturday opener to draw youth fizzled... I have to say DUHH!!!!

I think they just caved in to pressure ...because schools loose revenue on absentee kids....the kids ALWAYS loved being able to have a "Sick" hunting day on Monday and spending time with the "guys" that week end ...LEARNING about hunting...It was NEVER a big issue at any of the schools I went to...until the budget the budget crys started going up...personally and anti hunting tactic...freaking yuppies

So the first year of Sat opener I worked Friday. Ever since that day I take the Friday off. I got the vacation so I use it wisely Plus I figure by it starting on Sat we gained two more days for gun season.
