Geno C
Has anyone ever see a baby tick or had a run in like i did? i know 100% that these are indeed baby ticks, i know this because ive looked under an eye loop to verify. heres the long and shot guys and im sure some of you may not even beaware of this and its scary. last year i was scouting out new land and i went in there and this was before i knew about the tick repelent i posted the other day. I went in there and was picking up a good amount of deer ticks, i wear light color clothing, tuck my pants in my socks, tuck my shirt in my pants the whole 9. Well i was walking on a trail and infact there was no brush, i take 2 steps and i look down on my leg and there that just latched on was the size of a half dollar, atleast a few hundred "BABY TICKS". i beleive there in there nymph stage and almost immediately there start spreading about. I will tell you all this my heart dropped and they were so tiny that if i was not wearing light color pants i would not have even seen them. so i literally RAN back to the truck took my clothes off and my feet were covered in baby ticks at least 50 on each foot!! Scariest thing! i had to get tested for limes and all was well there thank god. i will try to find pics to post of baby ticks but in all my years of hunting and scouting i never had this issue until last year. take a pen and tap a peace of paper and thats the size of them, they are tiny! I believe the adult tick suspends this nest containing hundreds of baby ticks in hopes to snag a host for the young. If you guys are not paying attention you can essentially become a host. my dad on the other hand did not take caution like i did and he had them all over his body... they leave little itchy welts for a few weeks. I want to know if anyone had had a problem or actually noticed this before?! any info guys lets have it! click this heres a pic! http://www.flickr.com/photos/tgaw/3500769771/#

Geno C
just got mine in the mail today! lol and no im not a share holder but when i talk about these little critters no other hunter seems to know what i am talking about. its scares me that other may have nabbed these guys and can possibly bring them home. i did pick up a little nest when scouting the other day and i almost freaked out but i did wait a minute to see how they reacted with my spray i use and i will tell you, they died within 20 seconds or so... i was amazed. its these dry spells for some reason that really cause a muck with these little ticks. im very surprised that no one else had encounters with them but iwill tell you, where light color clothing when scouting and check yourself repeatedly while walking thrugh brush. when you pick them up, you pick them up fast and they WILL start spreding on your clothing. i have searched online and can not find anything on this! and this is 2 different parts of suffolk county i had come across this. Im just sayin be carful guys and be concous of where you walk and what you wear. im sure the wife would have your nuts if you brought these guys home with you. i know mine almost did! i really think if any of you LI guys do some scouting you will be suprised to see you have this problem in your stomping grounds. and i will say they ARE NOT chiggers it is a deer tick. baby ones... this spray seems to work magic tho, what i have noticed with these baby ticks is that i only pick them up from the 3 - 10" rnage off the ground. i have never seen this nest suspended i only see it on my clothes BUT if i were to take a guess the adult tick suspends this nest to ensure the grabbing of a propper host. i am very curious to see if anyone else has this problem. Geno C
Hey Geno I hunt eastern long island, sure they arnt chiggers? They've been real bad out here last few years. see i thought they were chiggers but i have to be honest they look exactly like a tick! i am going to have to keep a few of these and inspect them better if i get the chance to. they dont have a red color that stands out like a larva chigger. these are darker which and looks exactly like a tick. Doewhacker
We have ticks bad up where I am...I have had several bites, I don't worry too much though. I just wait to see if the bite turns into a bulls eye, if it does thats bad but other wise harmless. I remeber a guy from the old forum pointing out that there are these bugs called deer keds..(I think) that are very simular to a tick but have less legs?? I don't know but it may be worth a google for you?
LIHUNT
your prob. right then. The chiggers are almost a reddish clear. Either way they all suck!!! Still have to check those cameras and suffer through it.
MuzzyLoader
here is a read i found last year when this happened. it seems to be the only documented piece of info for this topic. http://tgaw.wordpress.com/2009/05/04/introducing-the-baby-ticks/ OMG! I think I may have seen a baby-tick 'nest'. I thought it was a bunch of baby spiders - believe me... they were VERY TINY (and I didn't spend time counting legs or dissecting them). Anyway I smashed them between my hands. There were a million of 'em! We live in a village (Horseheads, Chemung Co.), so I NEVER thought about them being ticks... but the nest sure looked like the one in that vial. MuzzyLoader
Geno, No, they didn't 'quisch' when I smashed [rolled] 'em between my hands... they did however fall to the driveway and begin crawling. That's when I took my coffee cup and rolled it over as many as I could get as fast as I could. They didn't seem to go quisch then either - but I really wasn't paying much attention to the feel or sound - I just wanted them dead. They were EXTREMELY small. You could probably fit 20 or more of 'em on the head of a pin. I do know that after the incident, I suffered for a few days from SEVERAL insect bites (no bulleyes though). The nest was suspended in mid air about 3' off the ground. It was attached to a downspout and garbage can.
