What is wrong with some people

I found something that just made me sick. I had to run down to the store and on the way back I came over the back road to see if anything was moving. As I got to the top where it flattens out I saw a deer laying on the side of the road. Thinking that someone had hit it with a car I slowed down to have a look at it. It turned out to be a buck with the antlers cut off. I stopped to look it over and it looked like it had been shot in the hind quarter. The deer looked to be three and one half years old . Now this road is a dirt road with woods on both sides and some small openings. I know that there is some road hunting that goes on because there are only a few houses on it. The deer looked to have been there for two or three days. I hate road shooters . It is bad enough that they shoot from the road, but to kill a buck just for the antlers is just SICK,. What a waste .I wish I could find out who did this and hang them by the balls. It is one thing if someone feels they need the meat and shoots one and takes it to use to feed their family, that I can understand. I have read on other sites were this is happening by high shool kids for the thrill of it. This is just wrong and I hope who ever did this gets help fast. To kill something and let it lay for the thrill is one step away from killing another person.

That's terrible. Call it in to the DEC. Probably won't be able to find the specific folks responsible, but they'll probably put the spot on a list for future poaching stings.

I agree with you,that is disgusting.I hope the shooters are caught if poaching is what happened.

we had a similar situation on one of my pieces of property last year. A call to the DEC resulted in them spending many nights in my field with a robotic deer and patrol cars in the brush waiting for violators. They spent many nights this season ambushing road hunters. Its worth a call to them to inform them that its happening in your area.

You are assuming that it was shot where it laid . It could have been shot in the woods and died near the road . Who knows ?

A DEC officer asked if he could put the robot on our property this year,he liked the way our cabin was off the road.I asked if I could sit with them when they did it.he started to laugh and said he would let me know.I don't think I would be allowed,but it would be cool..

I agree with Ed. Also just as an fyi, last weekend I found sheds at camp near one food plot. I cant see how a hind quarter shot would instantly kill a deer. I would more likely assume it died there by coincidence.

I agree that would be cool, but highly unlikely. Way too much liability. That would eb like asking a cop to let you sit in the car in a hostage situation.

I still am always curious what story they tell when someone asks them about the rack... I bet it's a doozy!!
