Antlers still on

Was at a friends house yesterday 02.29.12 and he tells me he's been seeing a couple does and a big buck in a 5 acre woodlot behind his house. We walked out back and sure enough 2 does run off followed by a big bodied 10 pointer. Anyone else still seeing antlers?

Yup.Most big boys still holdin one or both sides.Next 2 weeks they should loose them.Some a little longer.

Yep, seen another one today. Plenty of sheds being found too, so its a mixed bag right now.

Latest i've ever seen horn on a buck was april. every deer is different, a lot of early(dec-jan) sheds are from highly stressed or injured deer ..i never like to find sheds early. the deer still not might of made it.Some drop jan - feb when testosterone levels drop from a well ballanced herd. If does are plentiful and keep cycling becuse there arn't enough bucks around to breed them , some buck will still have their horns very late, but if you find a fresh one dropped in march and you know he made it thru.

Latest I have seen deer that hasn't dropped was end of march, like g-man said their all are different.

I saw 2 bucks this week, one still had horns, one didn't

Same here. Saw one last night carrying a 3 point side. Couldn't tell if the other side was shed or if it was broken off.

A friend of mine on Pillar Point had 9 deer in his yard. Of the 9 deer, 4 of them were bucks with scabs on their head.

Now another friend has a picture on his trail cam from 2/28 and it had two bucks with horns in the picture.

Serious... right side of 390 headed north. Saw 2 anterless deer bounding through a brush lot, followed by a racked buck. I couldn't believe it! I thought my buddy was gonna jump outa' the truck when he spotted it.

I'm wondering if new growth will push old ones out or will they just grow wierd (I've NEVER seen a deer carrying headgear so late into the new year before in my life!).

Muzzy- those are the DEC's new and improved "Robo Bucks"!

They hold their headgear year round and run on a track,lol.

I have heard of antlered does that hold their racks longer, maybe thats what you saw.

that is a good possibility if it had some velvet on... if it looks pretty rubbed out then i would say no. i dont think does that sport a rack have been known to rub it, the velvet usually stays on.
