that's a pretty rough generalization that everyone with wall hangers is a cheater... sounds like you've been drinking some haterade. I'm not promoting baiting, just not a fan of your last comment.

I wasn't saying that everyone with wall hangers is a cheater, sorry if it sounded that way. Was saying that there are some people out there who have some really nice deer on their wall, will tell the story how they shot it, and leave out the part that it was at their bait pile.

I find it hard to see how anyone can equate the guy who spends time and money improving their land to attract and hold wildlife to the guy who goes to the store and grabs a bag of corn and dumps it in front of their stand......I don't have the luxury of a large enough piece of land to improve, but hold no ill will towards the guy who does, now the guy who dumps bait out to attract deer is another story.

Not my thing, but honestly who cares. People who bait are missing out on the total experience, not us.. I would still take my odds ,with years of "real"experience, over theirs any day. At least with an older buck or doe. Not so sure about a 1 1/2 year old or younger though.

And some of you complained about political posts.  7 pages of dribble over nothing.  I think I will start a poll to see who wants baiting posts removed from the hot list.  They sell it because people buy it and it is legal to sell here.

except that at least it's a hunting topic... in 1 thread. Not 7.

10$ for a bag of corn? Bunch of noise. Sounds like a fine way to attract critters, squirrels and birds.

Did you all know that we have a symbiotic relation with bacteria in our intestines? It's the same bacteria that help dissolve your body when you die.

Is everybody's problem with baiting just that it's illegal?? That's what I keep reading. So if they legalize it next year everyone will think it's ethical all of a sudden?

I'm not for it, I just started doing food plots on my prop. But. Either way ur doing something to attact the deer.

I just can't see cultivating a piece of land, planting seed and letting it grow, and pouring a bag of store bought factory made feed stuff, as the same thing.

Food plots have to grow (and maybe they won't) and can only be placed in certain spots. Farmers fields and food plots will sustain wildlife before, during and after deer season. Store bought feed and attractants are meant to attract deer to one small spot, while the hunter is there and it can be placed anywhere. It can't be put out in the middle of a block of tall pines where there is no sunlight & poor soil. If no deer come into it a "hunter" can move to a swampy area and pour some feed out there. No hits? move to some deep hardwoods and pour some out there. Guy who hunt plots and fields can't bring them to different locations.

I get the "they both attract deer" thing but no way are they the same IMHO.

YFK you have a valid point...now here is my problem with it legal or not...mold ,bacteria and laziness....the number of ppl if it were legal...especially in this humid northern climate,  piling it up or in feeders and it getting wet and moldy...or instead of minerals 99% salt in the "mineral blocks"...

I found on new property we bought ...several ripped open plastic bags of Sterling road salt...really? That's just lazy and irresponsible....

You have bird feeders? Tell me when the seed gets wet what happens?...They have those molasses, corn ,protein blocks...what do you think happens when that molasses gets wet and starts feeding the bacteria ,molds and yeasts  in that block...I have never had a mold problem in my plots. In today's hunting arsenal if one doesn't have enough space for fields they can still rake up a spot around the stand blind ,if attraction is all they want and toss out some throw and grow...that isn't going to do more harm than good..

Ethical and Legal aren't always the same.

It's the fair chase argument. It's also that as hunters sometimes we are portrayed in a negative light about what we do. Baiting an animal turns things even more in the hunters favor and appears to some/most that you're no longer really hunting, but instead you're killing. I think it varies by region as well. Some have seen thinning herds and others are overpopulated. It's not a cut and dry topic.

Like some, if it became legal i'm not sure I'd get down. Same reason I don't feel a need to hunt with dogs or with a crossbow in Mississippi. legal or not, it's not for me.

ok so 7 pages of dribble about the same thing that has been argued at least 5 times in the past is ok because it is about hunting?  I see.

Its bound to happen with a lot of topics. Same thing will happen with "Whats the best rifle caliber for deer?" or "How far of a shot would you take with a bow at a deer?"

It wouldn't surprise me it "Whats your favorite color?" went on for pages too…LOL!!!

hot topics will always be hot topics and repeated.

Go to a car website. Chevy or Ford will never go away. Go to a pistol website. 9mm vs .40 will never go away. go to a dirtbike website 2 stroke vs 4 will never go away.

Topics like that will always pop up and they belong. I have defended your political posts the whole time. It's the other 2 that annoy us.

I walked into Bass Pro Shops (Auburn) yesterday to get some glue and blazers for some arrows.  On my way back to the archery dept I pass a pallet of "Deer Corn" in 50lb bags for $9.99.  Clearly labeled as such.  The thing that gets me is I must have seen 3-5 guys with 1 or more bags of the "Deer Corn" in their carts.  There was actually one guy with 5 or 6 bags.  Amazes me how these big stores sell all the attractants that are illegal here and get away with it.  It amazed me more that people will actually purchase it knowing it isn't legal.  I'm sure these are the guys that have a dozen wall hangers that they painstakingly hunted day in and day out for...or just sat over their pile of corn.

I didn't feel like reading all 8 pages, but Chief- I disagree with the statement about the master baiters having a dozen wall hangers. I think it is more likely that the master baiters are the same ones that shoot the 1st spike (or multiple on their family member's tags) and then complain that there aren't any big bucks around. Doubtful they have even one legitimate wall hanger although I do believe that any hunter regardless of ability will get a random dumb luck chance at a monster one time by accident in their hunting career.
