My brother is GI Joe. He is still an active service member protecting this country. He has enough military gear in his basement to change outifts several times a week and not have to do laundry. So when he goes hunting he takes his old beat-up fatigue. Why not? Why would he spend extra money buying "traditional" hunting outfit when he already has camo gear he can use at home? Why would he throw them away? I guess he needs to buy a coon skin hat just so that he can make the "traditionalist" happy? The shotgun he uses when hunting is a used Mossberg 500 pump that was used to clear tunnels in Afghanistan. It is desert camo color but he has since add some extras to it. I guess he's needs to get rid of this shotgun and buy a tradtional walnut stocked over under instead.

I can see this running into a bo thread. I went on a motorcycle poker run yesterday well over 200 bikes. There was a guy in a pair of shorts and sandals riding a very nice harley. There were kids in shorts in crotch rockets wearing just shorts passing everyone jumping in and out of formation. There were also guys wearing colors in leather head to toe and looked like they were not friends with a shower. I guess I am saying it takes all kinds. Just because a guy is in camo head to toe and carrying a firearm we do not choose to use, does not make him a bad hunter. We should examine ourselves a little before we make these posts. Or we should stop trying to bait people to see if we can get the longest bash thread record.

How is the image of a hunter tarnished.. by anti hunting wackos?? You could be wearing a 3 piece suit and carrying a slingshot and they still wouldn't be happy... Davey Crocket wore a coon skin cap and buckskins at the Alamo... I'm sure he wore that hunting too.. does that make him a GI Joe Hunter? Personally I am a little more leery of the guy in the head to toe, brand new, Cabela's blaze orange suit... with the shiny new gun... that just took his hunter safety course the week before than the guy you discribed... but I still wouldn't run from him. You really have to read your own posts before you click the post button... maybe you'll realize how ridiculous you sound sometimes.. AND... YOU A TRADITIONALIST??? .. You would think that with all of the crop failures, etc, the smart thing to do to keep food costs to a minimum would be to cut the ethanol production, and stop adding it to the gas, at least for now.

I use the LEM breakfast sausage mix along with a 50/50 blend of venison and pork shoulder. Its great tasting and not dry.

I spoke with a park police when i was there last week and he said the dates would not change as far as hunting. I hope you all know its about camping and money first and hunting last. I have never seen the park in such rough shape. The sides of the park road were not cut all summer from the looks of it from the perry entrance up to castile, Trees were down out into those uncut areas. Never saw a deer the full day we were there and we pulled out about 7pm. Acorns are dropin and the ground is rock hard so deer sign was about none but there is alot of corn up on the farms so im sure they are there. I hope a little better than last year!!! They were there but numbers were way down for sure!!!

In 1956 at age 14, I pestered my father to take me hunting. He didnt hunt at that time. After so time he relented and bought me my first shotgun(Remington 870). We hunted together for a while, me with my shotgun and he just following. Finally he purchased a shotgun and we hunted together for the next 25 years for rabbits and deer until he passed away. I hunt today with friends but still miss my best friend and hunting partner.

Bubba you'er a good man. The lesson here is take someone hunting. My friend who now lives in washington state and is very active in his state bow assc. a friend of the St charles family, and works pro bono for hunting groups became a hunter because as a paperboy some of his customers hung deer from trees in their front yards...

They can dress however they want and carry whatever gear they choose, as long as it is legal. Why is this suddenly an issue ? Black rifles and " Solja" type gear have been legal ( and available) for many years in many areas of NY plus dozens of other states for years... RAMBO type movies have been around for many years also..I don't see why there should be a big increase in "tactical' type gear at this point in time.. Nor does it bother me should it increase.. I'm a traditional type guy..I wore out a couple of red&black checked woolrich coats before I started wearing orange...I like walnut and blued steel, but if Joe Deerhunter down the road wants to hunt with his AR-15 or AK 47 ( equipped with the legally required 5 shot mag, of course) that is his perogative. Hunters have been using semi-auto rifles for over 100 years, like the Rem Model 8 ....The "8" stands for 1908....

Sorry WNYBuck... The stainless and the big objective variable TRUMPS the walnut... Besides, I think Encores are as ugly as AR-15s...hehehehe... There are some attractive single shots out there..Ruger # 1 is a good example.. I also like Remington Rolling Blocks, Sharps and even the lowly Springfield Trapdoor has its appeal..
