This is the problem with the hunting [fraternity] no united front . Most sportsman only care about themselves ! They say it doesnt affect me why should I care .I will still be able to do my thing when this couldnt be farther from the truth. These laws will affect all of us sooner or later and I for one see the writing on the wall . The words UNITED WE STAND never meant more than they do today when voting time comes never forget who it was that sold us down the river .4 points

I get a little nervous whenever people think they should decide for me what I need. I really don't understand what this tunnel vision is on hunting as being the only measure of what a law abiding person should be allowed to own. The 2nd Amendment never mentioned hunting as a criteria, so what is with all these people that want to use hunting as a yardstick of what firearms should be allowed. Believe it or not, there really are other reasons to own a firearm. Those that are somehow soothed because a firearm has been banned based on its "looks" had better give their head a shake if they can't seem to see the bigger picture.2 points

Are you really equating those mini-issues with statements that as long as I can squeak through my own lifetime, the hell with those that come after us? Or attitudes of, "as long as I can appease the anti-gunners long enough to get through my life, who cares about future generations". That is unbelieveable that anyone would come out and say things like that. And even more unbelievable that anyone would compare that attitude to a bunch of game management decisions. People arguing about antler restrictions, youth hunts, crossbows, etc. are not talking about incrementally giving away the rights of the future generations. My God, where is your sense of proportion? My only hope is that such scrambled thinking is in the minority among gun owners or our society may have degenerated a whole lot farther than I ever thought.2 points

Thats the angle the antis are using. King Cuomo said it himself in the state of the state speech. " No one needs ten bullets to kill a deer" they are drilling hunting and what type of gun they think you need for hunting, into peoples head. All they have been talking about is hunting and what role AR style rifles play in hunting. Keep singing the same song long enough and sooner or later enough people will start to sing along.1 point

When the Nazis came for the communists, I remained silent; I was not a communist. When they locked up the social democrats, I remained silent; I was not a social democrat. When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I remained silent; I wasn't a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No, it may not be directly related as a historical quote, but it does convey the idea of those who base their life decisions only on what effects them directly. I suppose that is enough said about that.1 point

It's not that he doesn't believe it, it's that he thinks HIS PARTICULAR SEGMENT of the sport won't be affected, so he doesn't care. It's okay to infringe on your rights, so long as they leave HIM alone.1 point

Many might not agree with me but those that sit idly by and allow rights to be infringed on because "they don't affect me" are the problem or at least equal to those actively taking the right away. In my mind they may even be worse because they are owners of firearms and won’t take a stand. Can we at least agree that this Safe act will do nothing to reduce violent gun crime? That is one of their stated goals. When that does not work, and it won’t, what then? Do you honestly believe they will throw in the towel and say “Oh well we tried”. If, as only a hunter, you want to see how this could impact you, just do a little research on what has happened in Australia. That did take place in a “life time”. Less than one as a matter of fact. Try to hunt with a semi auto shotgun down there to say nothing of a semi auto rifle. Check out the hoops you have to go through to hunt with a bolt action. It can happen in a life time and if the fence sitters in our ranks don’t choose a side, it will.1 point

Very different issues. You are comparing differing opinions about regulations to an assault on a Constitutional right. Opinions should be brought up on any proposed regulation change but the conversations should not even be happening aout restrictiong a right. Not in our ranks. This is an incrimental attck on our freedoms1 point

How many of you that are calling him selfish for his thoughts on gun ownership and laws, have no problem being selfish by dividing the hunting community with your stands on antler restrictions, youth hunts, crossbows, etc.....? those are all me me me issue's.1 point

I sent back my 835, a few years back, and I thought they were great. They called me to confirm that they received the gun, a couple days later they called to tell me what was wrong with it and how it would be repaired, a few days later they called to tell me that it was fixed and on its way back to me. They basically rebuilt the whole gun and added a ported barrel. This was all done under warranty. Most Mossbergs have a 10 year warranty. If yours is still covered ship the whole damn thing to them and let them worry about it.1 point

View this video. If you have any interest in seeing a living example of where all this anti-gun nonsense leads ..... View this video. If you think the solution is as simple as disobeying any requirement of registration .... View this video. If you think that confiscation involves actual door to door searches to be effective ...... View this video. We have a real-time laboratory right to our north that has already gone through a lot of what so many think is a simple problem that can be solved by legal disobedience. They have already found the ways that simple gun banning of certain firearms can so easily be expanded to other guns by the ruling "agency". They have found out what happens to those that refuse to comply. So, throw out all the cartoonish macho crap about ignoring laws. Pull your head out of that dark, unsanitary body orifice. Never mind pretending that such things can never happen and ........VIEW THE DAMNED VIDEO!1 point

Fasteddie has Pat Brady and Nelly Belle right..Gabby Hayes starred in a lot of Roy's films.. He was from Hornell, NY, by the way. He played a real HAYSEED, but in real life was a very articulate man.. Roy's horse was named Trigger, and his dog was named Bullet.. His girlfreind was Dale Evans and her horse was named Buttermilk. Roy Rogers was my first TV hero.. Davy Crockett was a close second...1 point

One of Roy's sidekicks was a guy named Pat Brady and he drove a Jeep named Nellybelle . If I recall correctly Gabby Hayes was his 1st sidekick . Anyway , I think it would be hard to conceal that derringer in a baseball cap .1 point

I am born and raised NY and lived here for 45 years now. I have thought about moving quite a few times. I have a job I could work anywhere pretty much and the wife could get a job easily in her field. Family and friends is what we do not want to leave. And this state is beautiful and filled with wonderful outdoor places. I love the Adirondacks and we have more public land than a lot of other states combined. Tons of fishing. These things are hard to beat. I love the four seasons even though January and Febuary suck more every year older I get!! For expense wise I have read numerous times the overall cost of living NY is very reasonable excluding the Big City at the bottom compared to the other states. For politics we seem to have all the idiots. And instead of us leaving we need to throw them out! I have travelled all over this country though and if I did move...... Nothing way south too hot and no seasons. No west coast well because it is the left coast!! Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota is awful pretty country. Always liked Kentucky too but I would not root for no stinkin Wildcats!1 point

Unfortunately, NYS is a lost cause. Taxes in this state are insane. It’s a beautiful place with abundant natural resources. The politicians (Republicans and Democrats) are all the same, they sold out to public sector unions. Union employees work 15 or 20 years and collect pensions that their neighbors have to pay. I don’t blame the union workers, I would take the $ if I could. But it’s not right that a cop, firefighter, garbage collector retires at 40 years old and collects $75,000+ for the rest if his / her life. Someone needs to pay the bill! NYS has passed numerous nanny state laws. Most recently the gun control law. This law will never be over turned by assembly or state senate. Maybe a court will throw it out, but not an elected official. As for a place to move, any right to work state will do. These states have low taxes and are mostly located in the south. Vote with your feet, leave if you can!1 point

"....Some may just want to pay to have someone come and do the work but is it cost effective?...." If you remove the upfront, intial cost of equipment & its' maintenance or repairs out of the equation, this may be actually cheaper. That is if you clear the land yourself, then contract to plow or cultivate the soil. You may get away with only a rototiller for subsequent plantings. Guess it's all based on how much disposable income you'll part with and what the improvement is worth to you. If your a person that enjoys the escape from the Mon-Fri grind by playing with dozers, tractors, etc on weekends - more power to you!1 point

What the hell ...... I had no idea that there was anywhere in the USA where they had such a ridiculous system of gun registration for long guns. That is just crazy. That alone would keep me from ever living in that kind of repressive system. Seriously .. I am not a militia-type, but they certainly have crossed over the line. $100 for finger-printing plus $120 for the application. And then 4 months until you get the license (if you get it). That is just plain harrassment! And it's not even a pistol that we are talking about, but your favorite shotgun or rifle. Man, that is just plain BS!!!1 point
