Had a problem with a Primos Truth Cam CR Blackout . Batteries were low so I changed them . It wouldn't turn on . Brought it home to check it over . The positive terminal on one side of the housing had some rust where water had gotten in . Used a small wire brush and steel wool but didn't clean it well enough for the batteries to work as it was difficult to clean out the recess where the positive tip goes . I took a piece of tin foil , folded it , put it where the positive end goes , replaced the batteries and it works Water / condensation can get in the front of there cameras . Sometimes it's just a simple fix ..3 points

As mentioned the 740 742 which I own one and the 7400 were not inherently accurate rifles. Mine is a 30-06 and gets about the same accuracy. Personally I have shot quite a few deer with it and was never to worried about about a 3 inch group at 100 yards. That is dead deer all day long. If I were trying to build a bench or a long range rifle, this is not the rifle I would start with. They are very meticulous about being clean for sure. I kept mine as it is as it was an inheritance from an Uncle. Just my opinion, but I would accept its limitations and have fun with it.3 points

I figure I might as well try an Xbow and purchased a Excalibur "Axiom". The biggest advantage I see is not having to draw on a deer which means a lot since I am primarily a ground hunter. I am also looking forward to using a different weapon to harvest a whitetail. I find it ironic that I also bought a recurve bow this year to learn traditional archery.2 points

For the last week we've had a pair of what appear to be adolescent red tail hawks lurking around the house. Every morning they sit in the giant walnut tree or on the tops of the telephone poles and screech, shriek, and call for hours. Don't know a lot about them but I'm assuming they've been kicked out of the nest and are fending for themselves. Pretty neat experience to watch and hear. To top it off, we've had a lonely male mockingbird here for several weeks as well singing his A$$ off. All times of the day. When the moon was full last week he was calling in the middle of the night. He usually starts his antics about 3:30-4 am. Hope the little guy finds a mate so we can sleep in a little bit!2 points

So I received a ad from gander in the mail last week and saw that that had a savage trophy hunter 111 with scope combo for 400 bucks after a mail in rebate. So I went in to gander yesterday to see if they had any. First off I don't like gander at all but I figured for that price I couldn't go wrong. I want a new 223 so I figured I couldn't beat the deal. Well after standing a the gun counter for 45 minutes trying to locate the gun. (Why can't gander have a better price tag system on their guns) a guy finally comes over. I tell him what I want. He grabs a savage that's 579.00 I tell him that's not right. Well he gets an ad and looks it up and tells me oh you can only get those in 270 and 30-06. Well after that I was pretty fed up. Only 2 more weeks till cabelas opens2 points

2014 Instead of starting a new topic for 2014 bucks, I'll just add them here because I don't know how much time I'll be able to dedicate to this. I shot out last night to try to find some deer across the road. Bumped a few doe with fawns and could only find two bucks. I think there all hiding in the tall grass right now. Caught this guy watching me walk the mowed field edge. I cut through a hedgerow that seperates the hay from the corn when I spotted this guy moseying along.2 points

If you get into a debate about hunters not being conservationists, you can use this to prove it. http://guide.sportsmansguide.com/news/80th-anniversary-first-day-sale-duck-stamp-approaching/1 point

I've been wanting to build a hammock stand for a while now but never found the time to do it. This afternoon my wife took my daughter out shopping and my son was on his play station and I had no work to do so I decided what the heck let's do this. "Git 'er done"! I found the plans on the Internet a while ago. I went to home depot last weekend and bought the wood and bolts thinking I could do it one evening during the week but that never happened. I went with pressure treated wood because I wanted to leave it outside. After some measuring, cutting, and screwing, 2 hours later this is the result. (Compound saw and jig saw come in handy) I plan on rounding the corners on the posts and staining the whole stand to match my Adirondack chairs but that's for another day. Here are some up close photos of the stand. M Parts list: 2- 84" 2x4 base 2- 36" 2×4 for base 2-60" 2×4 cut at 45° at one end 2 - 12"2×4 cut at 45° at one end 4- 5" × 1/2" lag bolts and nuts and washers Decking screws Tools Compound saw for miter cuts Jig saw for notches Screw gun Measuring tape Level And this is my view right now ....1 point

I hate seeing garbage in the woods. I know this isn't the same scale you're talking about, and it's more a hobby of mine to scoop up junk I find in the field. About two weeks ago I started collecting spent shotgun shells just to see how many I could find. Got 54 so far,lol Keep up the the good work!1 point

Yes, all the replies have got it right. There is nothing that indicates that the DEC has any of these thoughts in their minds. Fear not..... it is only some misguided opinion of one person that most likely is shared by no one .... other than farmers, nurseries, foresters, insurance companies and some home-owners or victims of car/deer collisions and perhaps those that might figure there is a buck in it for themselves ....lol.1 point

Sure, that's like the huge sign strapped on the wall outside of the Henrietta gander Mountain store that says "clearance sale 75% off". well that's not quite right..... there is a little "up to" in front of the 75%....lol. Inside the store I couldn't really finds anything that was 75% off. There probably was a pair of socks hidden somewhere that was 75% off....lol. I'll admit tat that is an old trick used by many different stores, but the intent to mislead is quite plain. Sure I am getting real picky with them because when they first came to town, it was the greatest outdoor store anywhere. And then little by little the prices kept climbing and the stock kept diminishing, and the service kept getting worse and the quality of store associates got worse until now I no longer make a special trip up there for anything because I know they won't have whatever I am needing. The only time I stop there is if I happen to be in the area for other reasons and want to see if anything has changed (which it never does). However hope is on the horizon as other companies are making plans to move into the area. Gander will either shape up or ship out.1 point

Thanks guys! I ran out for a morning hike today and decided to do some "jump shooting" in the goldenrod. You'll never guess who I walked right up on, and he wasn't very jumpy! I saw two other nice bucks and a few doe. Couldn't get a bead on any of them though.1 point

I only have three cameras and I just hung them today. One spot is a timeless favorite of mine, two were placed there within 75 yards of each other. The third is in a new spot right under my nose for years that I stumbled onto this past winter. If I can figure it out and find a decent tree to hang a stand I should be able to stack 'em like cord wood with the bow. Pics to follow in a couple/few weeks.......1 point

I just hope nobody stating anything mechanical can fail in relation to broad heads, doesn't use a release aid, fall away rest or hell even a compound bow. This isn't 1985 anymore mechs have come along way and so have fixed, any quality head will do the job well, if we all spent less time picking sides and arguing and more time practicing this discussion would be moot. But I suppose debate adds spice so I'll throw my two cents in...have tried both, have had success with both. My advice, don't cheat yourself by being narrow minded, try new things and focus on making good ethical shots.1 point

It's all part of the agenda of the Left. It's not just gun control they want, it's just complete control. There is nothing you do they don't want to be in control of. It's a free country. You're free to do what ever they let you do. And like adkbuck said, when it comes to gun laws that infringe, or confiscate and ban, it's not the GOP, Independents or Libertarians that are proposing, and passing, these laws. This proposal, by this crazed Democrat woman, (and there are many of them) to ban children's clothes from having an NRA logo on them, is actually mind control and tyranny. But, they're OK with that.1 point

If you support Democrats at all, you support this by default. http://www.guns.com/2014/07/18/congress-going-after-kids-shooting-sports-branded-clothing-and-colorful-youth-guns/1 point

Can't these waist of tax dollar employees find something more creative to use to justify their posistion in office.1 point

Yes republicans have let us down some. But, come on Wildcats, if you look at any gun control legislation and the voting record of those involved it becomes instantly clear which party has the destruction of the second amendment in its sights. To say there is no difference between the two parties is lunacy. At least look at the roll call vote of the Safe Act or any similar piece of legislation before making a comment that there is no real difference between the two parties.1 point

Yup……The antis and the lawyers will find something to pick apart no matter what. If he had used a .243, 30-30 or any other non magnum round they would have referred to it as a "high powered cartridge used to hunt big game". They prey on emotions..its what they do.1 point

Got out of work late so when I called home the kids were starving. Thank goodness for Mickey D's on the way home. Choked down a Big heart attack and some fries. Your dinner sounds much better and certainly more healthy. Enjoy.1 point
