  1. While the Doe I took this year was nothing to brag about she provided useful input on some new equipment. Got to use my new Howa Superlite Rifle Made a kill with factory ammo "Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr EDL" for the first time in many years and the first for me with the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge. The new Deer hoist worked like a charm Used an outdoor Edge replaceable blade knife for the first time on the skinning and it worked great Last but not least is the new LEM Mighty Bite meat grinder, picked it up last year on sale and it works very well replacing the Kitchen Aid that was good but a little slow. 2. I do have to admit I prefer the looks of a lever gun with no scope I usually use my .243 , 20 gage 1100 or Muzzloader , all of which have scopes But I’d kinda like to kill a deer with my Model 94 Just not sure it’s worth investing in a scope for the few times I’d use it. I may try the Truglo sites first

  3. I have several firearms that still sport open sights, be it shotgun, handgun or rifle all have fiber optic fire type sights installed. They just give a better sight picture for my old eyes, that being said I still can sight better with and prefer a scope especially when the light is faded during dusk or dawn. When I have to make a shot I want to have the best sight picture I possibly can have. The Deer I took this year was a perfect example, walking through some pretty heavy cover at a distance of a little over 100 yds I would have not taken the shot with open sights as I could not be positive of making a clean hit. With a scope I was able to see small clear openings and when she hit one I touched her off and that was all she wrote. Al

  4. I liked one of the responses that , in effect , with the price of ammo / reloading , I won't fire any warning shots .

  5. OK, I guess that somewhat makes sense. Of course he can still sell it to whomever he wants especially if another party offers him way more than your group would be willing to offer.

  6. Nice Buck FL ! Congrats ! Looks like you did that one a favor also . Although he probably would of survived with the hoof gone , I think he still would of been run down by the Yotes because it was the back leg.

  8. What an afternoon. I get to my stand at 3:30 wind , temps were perfect. I hear a shot not too far away. Sounded like it was on my property. My neighbor gets back to me that there was a button buck in my corn field with the ass eaten out of it. Just standing there shaking. Seems like the yotes got this deer but didn't finish the process. Guys it was gross what I saw. He put the deer down. A good thing. So about 4:15 to my right I see two large deer. I have no idea if they were two bucks or a buck locked onto a doe. All I know is the buck started heading my way. It was a real nice 10 pt. Shooter goes off in my mind. I think that second deer was another buck but I never saw horns. So here he comes at 30 yards slight quarter to. I put a slug through the front shoulder and it exits through ribs. He goes down in front plowing up the leaves. I knew I had a good hit but he got out of sight. I get down and head for where I last saw him. Took a few minutes but I found him. Beautiful 10 pt. One tine was sligfhtkly broken and he had a scar on the upper part of nose. I thought that this could of been the buck that My neighbor and I hit opening day. Upon looking at the deer the back hoof was shot off. It was dangling and he was walking on bone. My neighbor and I agreed the buck on opening day was much bigger. I was thrilled to get this deer this late in season. 5 seconds before I shot this deer my brother texted. Telling me to shoot a big one so you can spend more time with your girlfriend! It worked!!!! Enjoy the picts.

  9. Deer hunting is tough to get addicted to, i always start/introduce them with pheasants on a preserve. Gets at least 25% hooked
