marinate the bear in olive oil, with some sage and garlic salt for three days. Wrap in foil and cook on a medium flame until pinkish inside. Then throw out the bear and eat the foil.

I wonder if there was a Barry White song playing when this went down.

Prob for me old Browning A-Bolt II 30-06 Leopold VX1 3-9, and now the Browning BAR Mk I 30-06 Zeiss Terra 3-9. The A-Bolt II shoots my hand loads Nosler 150 gr BT's. The BAR is on a steady diet of Barnes Vortex 168 gr. Seriously looking for a nice 243 bolt action. Likely a Browning stainless stalker if there are anymore out there.

I was referring to antibiotics......

let's hear it, when you are standing in front of the safe..... which one do you reach for each time? What rifles go to camp with you, primary and backup. Or is it one for stands and another for deer drives. Feel free to include pics.

LV Beaver requires pre medication for the hunter!!!

Pig hunts are a lot of fun, in some cases there are combo hunts deer and pig. But yes pigs alone are reasonably priced. Ohio, and national Forrest, would that be guided/semi guided? Okay, with that said so far we have the Carolinas, VA, WVA and Ohio in the mix..... Deer of pigs, Anywhere else? And without over complicating this, Maine for bear is also easy to get to, and plenty of outfitter opportunity where they can typically accommodate large groups.

It's definitely drivable I was trying for something that is reasonably drivable in a day from anywhere in NYS. So in my mind that's about anything that within a 10 hour radius of Syracuse. West VA is a good possibility as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Kentucky is awesome hunting. Very short gun season so it would make things pretty much a bow hunt. Definitely not drivable from NY in a day and I don't know the cost of non resident licenses. I only picked VA because I have had some personal experience there and deer are plentiful. That said I'm opened to anywhere. I think we can seek out more suggestions from others as well. This one will stir some discussion.... On a another blog site a few years back we did a member antelope hunt. It was a great time to actually meet and hunt with the people your were writing back and forth with for years. We had a great hunt and a lot of laughs. It has me thinking why not do the same here. Initial thoughts are we wait until next season so everyone has time to plan and save up some scratch, we limit it to the first 10 who say they want in and we do a guided hunt out of state that is affordable, well reviewed and drivable in one day from anywhere in NY. Here is my though, I've hunted Virginia before. The hospitality is great, deer are plentiful, rates are certainly savable over a year and a half, and out of state three day licenses are not expensive. Plus they have a long season. Firearms in and out of the state are not and issue either. Or it can be a bow hunt. Let me know what your thoughts are, but I know we want a place that lodges us on property, maintains stands and scouts them, has great and recent references (that we will check!!!), has licensed and insured guides, provides lodging and meals. Let me know your thoughts. If that is too much, what about a couple of day guided waterfowl hunt? Either way lets start talking about it.

no the lock ons are gone, got the two climbers still.

My favorite 270 (Win and WSM) head is the Gaming 140 gr HP. Tough, performs as it has to and accurate.

Steiner has some nice stuff. -
got hundred plus rounds, mixed variety. Some boxed some not. The boxed includes full boxes of Leverevolution 265 gr, the other stuff is mixed older Corelock 265 and 240 grain. Message me if interested. No longer own the rifle.

I too thought they were gone once hogs became no fly in NYS..... Never heard anything bad about them.

Hunted with Kevin Evan's a few times. Great guy, solid operation. He is Turkey Ridge Raquette Lake Outfitters in West Winfield. Highly recommend.

I use to hunt with a guy who was one of the NY Giants strength coachs (back in the late 1980's). Needless to say money was no object for him. He was an Adirondaker (he's now gone off to the Happy Hunting Ground) and had a camp north of Saratoga. He used 270 WCF for everything, including three trips to Maine for moose, and a bunch of trips to Ontario for Black Bear. A gunsmith I know uses 270 WCF for Canadian Black Bear. It's harvested scores of whitetails too. No dust on the 270 WCF at all. I've got an older Browning A-Bolt in 270 WCF that's been a hunting fav of mine for about 20 years. I've hunted NY and VA with it plenty. Great choice, ammo is far more available and less costly which means you'll shoot more and you can shoot it wearing a T-shirt without tearing your shoulder to pieces.

see that's the thing, I haven't been fortunate enough to go out west yet. I keep missing Powerball..... But if I do, I'm not convinced that I would use 30-06 either. What can't it do with sensible recoil. Maybe it's not going to be as flat at 500 yds a belted cartridge, but with good glass and a well built bullet it will knockout anything up to that distance. Am I missing something? I could't imagine an '06 with a 180 gr monolithic or partitioned bullet would not be able to anchor a monarch class mature elk at 500 yds.....? That said the 270 WSM with identical recoil to the 30-06 again with the right load should do equally as well. Thoughts?
