  1. Anyone have any opportunities in Cherry Valley? Or know of hunting clubs looking to take on new members that have/lease land in that area. Please pas it on.
  2. My son when he was five stuck a stick into a ground wasp hole. The ground under us was literally vibrating. They came flying out of the emergency hole and they were not happy. Still remember running into the house with him under my arm and the dog following. Both me and the dog go stung. He didn't. Those suckers were flying against the back windows of the house for an hour. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. That's a great stand Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I tried the scout scope setup on a Marlin 336 in 35. It didn't workout for me. I went back to a traditional style scope on it. In fact it's a red dot and only really use it for tight cover spots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I kind of stand in front of the safe and reach in for a Browning A-Bolt II Hunter lol. Could be a 30-06, 270 WSM or a 270 Win. All great mountain style bolt actions with 22" barrels. The BAR Mk I 30-06. Perfect rifle for about 50% of the camp stands. The bolt actions flat shooters will nail down the rest of the stands. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I remember the old Bakers. Stand too close to the tree truck and it was an express elevator down to the base. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. sounds like we all need to do what the article suggests and call our congressmen. Also sounds like we should get some of our heavy hitter groups behind this too if they aren't already. Like the NWTF. DU. Whitetails Unlimited. Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Pheasants Forever. The list is bigger than those. I am happy to write to DU about this also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Disgraced our country because of his antics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. You can get hang on stands that mount to a receiver that you hand in the tree. So all that's on tree is the receiver and not your stand. I believe Millennium makes one like that still. The receiver even has a little welded ring to hoist the stand. Also if you can get Sky Hooks for your first 3 or 4 steps up the tree. The steps and bolts are two piece and you can take the actual step with you and leave only the head of the bolt. These are some tricks of the trade from hunting Suffolk County that have served me well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I cannot begin to put words around your loss I am truly sorry.
  11. Nope. It said it was removed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. and all of this because I couldn't post Obama goes to hell and ....
  13. Exactly. So many moderators watching the flock with nobody watching them. And I don't wanna leave. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Irony is a double edged sword I suppose. About a week ago I tried to post a PG rated Obama political joke which I later found out was taken off the site by the moderator I believe. So nobody saw a joke that didn't contain one curse but did describe an act between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. I wrote to the moderator about this and got no answer back. On Tapatalk app today under what's trending on huntingny.com are posts with curse and vulgar language and pics of Hillary morphed with Adolf Hitler and worse. Yet that is okay to post. Somehow..... Amazing. I don't get big brother watching adults at all, but if he is a bit more consistency would be appreciated. Just sayin..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. An alternate view is that the smoke didn't spook the doe. And she came into an area where it was. That's impressive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. for those that have the Muddy, whats goo and not good about them.
  17. Stuff looks interesting, butI'm very skeptical about anything that biological waste (which pee is) in plastic.
  18. Trails End was good when it was sold in glass. All of this stuff that has any pee in it overtime creates some ammonia. That takes on the smell of the plastic they now sell it it. The bigger companies went this way because its cheaper than glass with less breakage on shelf which is what the big retailers want. Trails End is a mix of doe pee, beaver caster, and earth scents (a lot of acorn). If you stick to a quality low volume scent from a reputable farm that is CDW safe you'll be fine (not Code Blue IMO). Use a regular doe pee and some doe and fawn interdigital gland blend. It will keep doe calm and help them gather throughout the pre season. Doe are very habitual so if they say calm now they will likely get comfortable browsing and traveling through the scent corridor you create. You can try something like James Valley Extacy paste. Apply it wearing gloves with a q-tip to the underside of branches in blowdown that are just off primary runs and where they feed/browse. Try to think of your area and where bedding areas are. The runs too and from those area are good travel corridors. Less is more is the key. Deer smell 600 times better than we do. So you won't need a lot of it and if you oversell the area with scents you will spook them away. If you can faintly smell the stuff, you've done well enough. In about three weeks from now make a few small scrapes a few feet off those runs using the same stuff or the liquid form, again don't load up the scrapes with this stuff a faint smell is all you need. Put a camera on that scape area if you can. When you hold does now you will bring chasing bucks later. It is very predictable, hold doe in an area and watch rubs stop popping up there as well come mid to late Sept. Wear rubber boots in and out of those spots. I spray my boots down with an earth scent specifically on the soles and toes. Every pee based scent, over time, will start to get a bit of ammonia. Best bet, store it in a the fridge when your not using it. If you do get a bit of ammonia smell, open the top and let it float off for a day at room temp, then reseal the bottle/jar. I've had the same jar of James Valley Full Draw for a few seasons now, it smells as good as it did the day it showed up. Last though on doing this, be mindful of the wind in these areas. If you have a runs that coverage from different angles you'd want to try for a spot like that and set your stand off it like 30 yards with clear shooting lanes. Wind makes of break scents corridors. A shift in the wind with only one way to or from bedding area and your done. Lay in your sent at the convergence of that angle with a clear line of sight and your'll be trimming silver skin off backstops by lunch time! Sorry for the long post. Hope it helps, and check this out: http://www.jamesvalleycompany.com/Quality-Buck-Lures-s/1826.htm
  19. we all use them in camp. They work, I wouldn't say they are the radial tire of hunting world, but they are good when you have them. As far as a good knife that's all of it right there. I still use my old Schrade Sharp Finger Gut Hook made in Margaretsvile NY! Have it so long (since I was 14) the sheath is getting dried out on me. I'd gut and skin a wooly mammoth with that!
  20. when I start seeing the residents on my street start to fatten up, like this one.....
  21. It will never happen, the weekenders allover the state from Surprise City who hold the politico's in their pockets won't go for it.
  22. some caterpillars on the other corner of the state Doc, but nothing I'd call an infestation.
