  1. god knows we have the deer for it!
  2. Nice and the Primos camera look sharp too!
  3. I've downed as many deer up close with 30-06 as out at 200 yds. Look towards ballistic tipped bullets, they shed a lot of energy quickly. If you don't have a rifle yet, you might consider a semi-auto like an older Remington 7400 or a BAR Browning. Reason why is at tight distances deer are likely to come into shooting lanes on the move, the ability for a fast follow up shot might now be a bad thing. Much like having a lever action carbine. In fact I know you can get the 7400 in 30-06 in carbine length. It would work well at those distances as accuracy isn't an issue. All that said, I shot a meaty on the move at 50 yds with a 30-06 Browning A-Bolt in the neck two years ago. DRT.
  4. Smithtown. PM me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. So it will sound crazy but to my eye this Droptine is every bit as clear as my VX1 and Zeiss Terra. I just checked the others again. Sounds crazy, but it seems true to my eye.
  6. This is a old fiction piece in the back cover of North American Whitetail that is about 20 yrs old. I've used it for Sportsman Education from time to time depending on the class. Some might enjoy it. It always stirred some discussion in the classes. The Buck of a Lifetime.pdf
  7. this kid is amazing. Deer hunter from VA too. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/rio-2016/2016/08/06/shooting-gold-medalist-ginny-thrasher-laments-controversy-gun-laws/88333030/

  9. Cam lock boxes are $35 I think and came specific. A few bolts and a master lock,... all in ~$40 / camera. Money well spent when you don't loose a camera.
  10. We are mixed opened field and hard timber. In the woods shooting lanes range from 50 to 125 yds. Across fields 300 yds plus. I am 50/50 on about 45 deer on that property (total lease is 1600 acres with 12 ladders). The majority of the shots into the fields from stand locations tend to be far off. last season we had a shot in camp that was 400 yds. Edge of field stand on the opposite edge as the buck stepped out of the wood line. Lat year I passed up two meat doe (stupidly) that were both 3/4's out in the same field from the tree stand. The year before I had an uphill 250 yd shot at a deer. The year prior to that cross field on the same hillside at 300 yds. By comparisons, I have a very productive stand in the woods that has sideways lanes of 50 yds and forward lanes on 100. Another stand goes downhill into an orchard that is 250 yds straight out and 100 yds to the sides. We have two stands that went in last year that were hill top and at opposing corners of a horse pasture (not used after the summer). Each one of these stands is 300 yds plus across the fields. Another stand is on the edge of a swap the allows for everything from bow shots to 350 yd shots depending on where they pop out in the swamp. This in the winter, due to beaver damming on a couple of creeks that feed the swap, flood timber to one side of it that falls off into a bottom beneath a ridge line. Above that is a cow pasture of adjacent property. That flooded timber has natural lanes of 250 yds. So by northeast standards we have fairy long shots.
  11. this is amazing! I've only seen them in the wild, never hunted them. They are massive and impressive creatures.
  12. That's a nice setup! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. looking to put a few in around the yard,... anyone have any? Wondering how quickly bats start to roost in them. Looking to deal with bugs around the house. We have bats in the area.
  14. I think 2010 was the last year for the free DMP's with the LTL's.
  15. They are opening one up n Huntington LI soon as well. Should be awesome too.
  16. In Dix again today, got a display Burris Droptine 3-9x40 BDC plex for $110 (on clearance and was the display). I thought it was every bit clearer than the VX1 and was $100 less. I have the same one on a 270 Win A-Bolt II and love it. I jumped on it for that price.
  17. Thanks Airedale, I did see that in their flyer. I was looking for their Long Range Duplex. I was also told to checkout the Redfield Revolution anyone know anything about them? American made and owned by Leupold.
  18. mid range 200 to 250 yds. Long 300 plus. The VX1 3-9x40 LRD is on sale at Dicks for $239. The Zeiss is about $305 on eBay (best price I've found). I agree that the VX1 is a classic, and it will be on a 700 BDL which is itself a classic as well.
  19. These are what I have in contention and your thoughts are also appreciated. It will be a top a 7mm Rem Mag bolt action. The goal is to be under $300 to $350.1- Burris Fullfield E1 Illuminated 3-9x40 (like the second focal plane reticle feature of this, don't like the modern looks)2- Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 Long Range Plex (classic look, I own 2 of them and they are awesome glass)3- Nikon Monarch 3, 2.5 - 10x42 BDC (have 2 of the older Monarch UCC's, also solid scopes. One is on a Weatherby)4- Zeiss Terra, 3-9x42 R6 Plex (I have this scope with the Z-Plex on a Mk I BAR 30-06, great hunting glass)
  20. Another range day,.... A-Bolt II Hunter 270 WSM and the BAR. The BAR actually shot better than the A-Bolt.
  21. other than sited in guns..... NADA!!!! Putting cameras in camp stands next week.
