Been a while since i been here. Things have been crazy. I just got permission to hunt a spot on the extreme East end of the Island that is known for an over abundance of deer! Not many hunters, not many vehicles to take them out either and large pieces of private land. Not to mention I was asked to help out with a DMP for the same area. Gonna do some scouting tomorrow, then my first sit on Sunday. Totally stoked!!

Up having coffee. 31 degrees and calm wind. Stepped out front and saw a big doe walking across the street. That always gets me going! Going to a spot that I keep seeing nice bucks. Last time I was there a nice 8 walked to within 40 but I had no shot. He was kind enough to show me where a scrape was that I never saw. I’m going in with my climber today to try to get closer to him, or one of his buddies. Low temp, high pressure and light wind. Thinking good things may happen this morning! Good luck to everyone going out today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

DEC Unveils New Deer Management Plan
squirrelwhisperer replied to Five Seasons's topic in Deer Hunting
I'm not sure how I would feel about Long Island getting to use rifles. Too many idiots, too many houses. Perhaps shotgun season could be longer and crossbow allowed. -
I love going out in the morning. Watching the sunrise and listening to the woods wake up is hard to beat. That said, I usually intend to return for the afternoon but my couch is so comfy, I typically wake up too late lol. Because of this, I have never taken a deer in the afternoon. Out here since 6 with little Squirrel. Nice morning. 33 degrees and no wind. This hunt is all about him. Hoping he can knock down his first bow deer. I have my bow with me, just in case. Don’t plan on picking it up tho. Good luck to everyone out this morning, especially the little ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thoughts on bucks shot on my property?
squirrelwhisperer replied to NYBowhunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Apparently I need to change some things here...I am usually getting down around 10. I always try to be settled in an hour before sunrise. I love hearing the woods wake up and I think it gives the woods time to kinda forget about all the commotion/noise of me getting situated. Usually by 930 I am just about ready to get down. Most of my deer are down by 9 it seems. Hopefully, one day I will figure it out. -
What have you lost or broken in the field this year?
squirrelwhisperer replied to goosifer's topic in Deer Hunting
I lost one of my carabiners. Took it off my tether because I was climbing a ladder stand and gonna use a tree strap (I clip it onto my safety line when in a hanger). I put it in the pouch I keep my haul line in and must have left it open as I climbed. I guess it dropped out but I never found it by the bottom of the stand. I hate losing stuff. I would rather break stuff than lose it. -
Rainy on the Island until about 2. Have some things to get done around the house then off to the woods to set a new stand that I will sit in tomorrow am. This one is deep in the woods. In some real thick cover. There is some very promising sign in the form of very fresh rubs, a few scrapes and runs with fresh droppings. Pretty excited to try this spot.
