  1. My pheasant partner has a brittany. Lots of energy but doesn't understand he is supposed to find the birds when afield. He is still young and we hope he just gets it one day. Neither one of us are hunting trainers. I need to learn this skill for sure. maybe by my third one I'll figure it out lol
  2. I have known many labs and they were all very cool dogs. The only one that I knew that hunted were duck dogs the others were all fat lol. They are def "house friendly" lol
  3. You don't sound like a jerk. I never had a hunting dog and appreciate the advice. My whole life it was shepherds until i moved out and got a pit. My pits chase everything but sometimes struggle with the idea that its not always a game of tug of war which is def less than ideal with game. They always want to play even when they are old. They just tire quicker. Come, sit, stay, do your business outside, not an issue with me but go find the critters is my challenge. Always thought of labs as duck dogs but very interesting...love that bread. Spaniels and pointers...have to check them out along with the airedales. I personally don't mind a high energy dog...had many pits (they are terriers after all), but the wife is another story. looking for a good pet, hunting companion and family friend. have to choose well because i will be living with my decision for over a decade.
  4. I see this breed in many old time pictures. Do they like to chase rabbit? Are they good at sniffing out pheasant? Hard to train for this purpose? How are they in the house...calm, good w kids, eat the house? Sorry for the bombardment of questions but I only get one shot at making a good choice.
  5. My Duke is getting old (11 yrs). I can't help it...I'm a dog person and have trouble thinking of my life without one. I was considering a hunting dog as my next companion. I would like a breed that would appreciate pheasant and rabbit hunts. Require minimal training...its in his blood so to speak because I have no idea how to train a dog to chase a particular type of game. Need him to be a good family/house dog as well. Wife is dead set against a Beagle. Too much noise. Any suggestions?
  6. No high tech nothing. Just good old fashioned skill. When men were men and dear old Dad (or Grandpa) was the best mentor you could ask for. I think its amazing that in many of those pics, they were actually wearing a tie to hunt. Love it!! Keep Posting!!!
  7. Congrats to you and your newly expanded family. May you enjoy health, happiness and many grandchildren in your future.
  8. If so, I need 2 so I have a spare...just in case lol
  9. Agreed...great topic. My hearing is not that bad, yet, but I have always wanted to try these. I too will be following this thread. Thanks Taco
  10. True story... When I met my daughter's high school sweetheart, he was all of 17 years old. I had guns all over the table, cleaning them, as I knew he was coming over. So we are all talking, i continue to take apart and reassemble various weapons. The girls finally walk inside as I finish reassembly of my 1911. With it in my hand, I walk over to him, put my arm around him and whisper, "That is my only daughter. If she ever comes home crying to me...I'm not afraid to go BACK to prison (as I look down at my Kimber)" He turns white and starts sweating. Now, I've never been in any trouble but he doesn't know that. This happened almost 13 years ago. 3 grandchildren later...they are still married! Such a respectful lad, too. lol
  11. I learned about M1 Thumb the first time I took her to the range. Ouch! It bit me!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. They are very liberal in North Carolina. Def wanna take it to Texas for hog. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Does my AR-10 7.62/.308 count? Haven't used it hunting yet but plan to take it down by my brother in North Carolina for some hog. Never hunted my AR-15 5.56/.223 either. May use it for some yotes if I ever go lol. My M1 Garand (Springfield Armory) 100% original, only got shot at the range a handful of times. More of a collector's item for me. Too concerned with the history of that one.
  14. Collapsible stock, pistol grip, forward assist and is that a threaded muzzle brake? What, no dust cover? How can they sell that in NY, post ban? Dam Democrats...one maniac and now we all have to suffer. If a Republican doesn't like a TV show he changes the channel. Just saying. Thank God a .308 bolt action wasn't used lol. Nice looking gun. Top load sucks tho. Can it be refitted with a 20" barrel as mentioned above? I have an AR-15 5.56/223 and AR-10 7.62/308. Love them!! Also have a NY compliant AR-15 223...Ugly as sin! The wife and kids shoot that one.
