Never mind never having used one, haven't even heard about them before this forum. Had to google it after I saw some ppl discussing them. I am very intrigued and may have to get for next season. Looking forward to learning something about them from this thread. Thanks Sodfather.

My biggest disappointment thus far, seeing as how my season hasn't ended yet, would have to be passing on the many deer earlier that I would love to take now. We all heard the saying, "don't pass something on the first day of the trip that you would take on the last day." That's me now. So many nice deer that I let walk that I would love to have taken at this point. I really have to learn to be less picky. Runner up moment would have to be a deflected arrow shot at a nice mature doe. How about you?

I think it's beautiful. On the Island we only have red fox. They only grey fox here are grey fox squirrels lol.

1C and only 1C. Never been somewhere else. Never took an animal with a rifle. Bow and shotgun only. Hope to change that one day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glad she wasn’t injured. Woulda been much more of a bummer. I just couldn’t see that twig. It was literally 15 minutes before sunset and the light levels were dropping. I thought I had a clear shot. There is a mark on my fletching where it touched the twig. I’ll post a pic in a few. Reminds me of Maxwell Smart, “Missed by that much.”

They came into that area spooked. I think one had an idea I was there but not sure what I was. She was stomping and snorted but walked off slowly. I will def go back to the same spot. It’s been my experience that when a doe busts me, she returns, a buck usually won’t. Luckily (depending on how you look at it) there was no buck around at the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Settled into spot number two. This is my first time here in the afternoon. I’ve always seen deer here in the morning but my friend that lives here (also a hunter) says it’s a better afternoon spot. Here’s to hoping he’s right. This morning’s tally was 3 doe (1 at my house and 2 far off in the woods) plus lots of squirrels. It only takes 10 minutes in the right spot at the right time...hope this is it...hope it’s today! Tried posting that at 1230 but had no service. So here is what happened...So hungry from starting before dark n not bringing snacks, couldn’t wait for it to be 4pm so I could wrap up n go home to eat. Didn’t see anything but squirrels until 4:05 when 6 doe come crashing into the woods n stop near me. So I want to take the big one and she presents a shot at 35 yards. A bit farther than ideal but I been practicing out to 50. She needs to take one more step and she does. I send it. Looks great. Watching the luminock going right towards the right spot...then I see the arrow turn to the right and stick in a tree. SOB it deflected! $&@#%^*+=•!!! I waited all day for this shot and I missed. Didn’t see the damn twig. Major bummer. Not to mention I haven’t taken a deer yet this season. Still in the skunk club. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looking to buy my first bow, thoughts/suggestions.
squirrelwhisperer replied to Imjus4u2nv's topic in Bow Hunting
Many valid points were made. I got my son the diamond to start him out with. The ready to hunt package was $350. Near nothing considering the cost of my Matthews Z7 lol. It’s adjustable for length and weight. Great bow to start with. I am in Suffolk and I went to smith point archery in Patchogue. Full on pro shop, knowledgeable staff, on site bow repair/tuning, indoor range and they sell hunting gear. You can shoot before you buy and shoot free for a year after your purchase. They also do taxidermy when you pin your first buck with your new bow, for a fee of course. Archery forum is another good choice in the Brookhaven Yaphank area on Horseblock rd. Feel free to Pm me. Hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

So got my first ever hang on stand up yesterday, alone. Wasn't as challenging as anticipated. Gonna take a little getting used to tho. I am accustomed to the arm rests and shooting rail on my climber so felt a bit exposed. 1st sit in it will be Saturday morning. Got it set up atop a ridge with a well walked trail leading to bedding. Hoping to run into the nice 8 I saw there last time. Hero or Zero, either way will let you know. At this stage of the game, fork being finicky. ANYTHING that presents a shot is in for a bad day.

For me, I am gonna try some throw and grow type stuff and create a small feeding area. Jury is still out on the hang on stand set up. Gonna set up my first one ever today for the remainder of my season. If it works out, there may be more of them in my future nest season.
