Anyone doin squirrel hunting?
Splitear replied to Northcountryman's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I've thought about it. The hard crusty snow right now is definitely a deterrent. I'm really thinking about grabbing my Browning light 20 and trying my luck if we get a manageable amount of snow in this upcoming storm. Good luck if you're able to get out! -
Beautiful state. I don't know much about the hunting down there, but good luck!

Thank you.

I'll answer this, as I fall into that camp. I voted for Biden, and have been disappointed this far. That being said, I don't regret for a moment not voting for Trump, and if 2024 were the same match-up, I'd do the same in a heartbeat. I think what Trump represents runs far deeper than any policy that I do or don't agree with. I'll openly admit I don't like him, not so far as hate, but really don't like him. I like Biden, I'm disappointed in him, but I don't "not like" him. I know this is an unpopular opinion here, but it's how I feel about things. I guess as an independent, I just wish there was a way that the major parties would pick better candidates. And. God forbid if we had another option or two. I will have no problem with voting for a Republican in 2024 if they can submit a candidate who is a better person than Trump. I will not vote for Trump.

Still probably not a bad idea, looks like it could be nasty late Sunday and Monday. Be safe!

I think you're fine man, it looks like there was an issue with another "new" member. Glad to have you join the forum and contribute. I hope you and your family continue the recovery.

I recently saw 300 Savage at $60, marked down from $66. I guess if you need it....I'm glad I don't.

I hope she does okay Grampy, it's no fun seeing someone you love in pain. All the best to you guys!

Good luck, I hope it's a mild case and your back to 100% soon!

I think there's a few models out there now that are showing different things for us, it depends on where this costal storm tracks. It's hard enough to predict those costal storms, add in trying to figure out snow amounts that can vary widely based on a degree or two of temperature, it's almost impossible until it gets here. I know some people hate the snow, but I'm kind of hoping for at least a shot.

Maybe a Pro Hunter PH1? Any other markings on the blade? -
The 2022 4-H Shooting Sports Winter Instructor Workshop is coming up next month. If you are looking for a way to share your passion for Shooting Sports and the Outdoors with youth, becoming a certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors is a great way to do so. The workshop is held in Ballston Spa at the 4-H Training Center. If you are interested in becoming an instructor, I'm happy to answer any questions you might have, however, I would encourage you to start by contacting your county's Cornell Cooperative Extension office. If you're in Saratoga County, don't be afraid to get in touch with me. We've had this open for a while, so spots are filling up, but there are still spots in many disciplines. I really can't speak highly enough of our program. We offer great opportunities for youth to learn firearm and archery safety, build their skills and develop friendships and relationships through shooting sports. It truly is my favorite program to teach, as so many important lessons and concepts can be incorporated into a shooting sports program. Additionally, my volunteer base is made up of dedicated sportsmen and sportswomen who understand really enjoy sharing something they love with youth who can carry on the tradition.

Just let me know, we can try to find a time around when clubs are meeting.

I'm going to order 2 tomorrow. I'll give it a shot when we receive them.

For any of you lever gun guys that want some cheap practice. We're thinking about getting one of these for our youth program just so the kids can have a chance to try a lever gun and still use our air rifle range. I'd like to shoot it, but it certainly seems pretty neat.

No need, I was interested by the topic, and then more surprised by the map

Wow, a map from Illinois! Arcola ( on the top right side) is where I taught High School. Very cool!

Double post.

I have had my booster, and will continue to do so as recommended. I trust my doctor, who has recommended all from the start. I get my flu vaccine every year as well, and though I've had the flu even being vaccinated, it's been mild. I hope that if and when I get Covid, I get a similar response. I respect that others are making choices based on other information, but the overwhelming amount of information from sources that I trust support my decisions. If that makes me a "sheep" then so be it, I can tolerate the judgment of "lions".

The Lost Art Of Rabbit Hunting
Splitear replied to airedale's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
We had a "Babe" too. The only dog that we had that would never run a deer, except once. Dad tells the story of jumping a deer right in front of the dogs, the pack took off, and Babe just looked at the deer and then dad. He said "You might as well go too", and he said she ran it for about a hundred yards before she came back. She wasn't the best hunter we ever had, but handled well and was a great easy going dog. -

I love his line "A rabbit will make the best hunter and the best shot look bad on his best day". -
The Lost Art Of Rabbit Hunting
Splitear replied to airedale's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Growing up, my dad and I ran UKC beagles, and went out with the dogs dang near every weekend. I still miss hearing the dogs run. We rarely shot a rabbit, mainly to keep our spots flush with them. A few years ago when I went home, we broke out some of the old home videos of hunts, and immediately I could recognize each dogs voice, "There's Bear" "Strike Maggie". Beagling also meant I got to grow up with a colorful cast of characters at the clubhouse. A lot of those old men would "hire" me to handle their songs, meaning I got to wade into the briars to catch them. When we got back to the clubhouse they'd pay me with a coke and cheeseburger. A part of my childhood I cherish and will never forget. Thanks for sharing. -
To replace the energy drinks, you might think about visiting a tea shop. There are a ton of different teas that you might like for a caffeine boost.

Anyone Interested In A Capital District GTG?
Splitear replied to grampy's topic in General Chit Chat
I might be up for it depending on date and time. It's about an hour for me, but I might be able to make that work. Thanks for thinking of this Grampy. -
I've always done my own. I can usually knock out an oil and filter change in the driveway in 15-20 minutes, so I never bother taking it anywhere. My wife's old Lincoln MKT was a pain in the but with the shield underneath it, so it took a little longer. I haven't had to do one on the new van yet, so we'll see. My Outback is super easy, except that the filter is tucked into a bend in the exhaust pipe. If it's not cooled off, I end up with singed knuckles, and any oil that I miss wiping off the exhaust makes for a nice stink for the first few miles. The one thing I will take to the shop is headlights on my Subaru. You have to take off the front wheel, pop out the fender underpinning and then try to dick around in the little crevasse without being able to see what you're doing. My guy will do it for $70 including the light, so well worth avoiding the headache.
