  1. One of my favorite priests (who passed several years ago) was retired, but came back and taught RCIA. He had pretty severe Parkinsons disease, which is what eventually did him in. I asked him once what a retired priest does, and he said "Well, I've applied at Walmart to be a paint shaker, but they haven't hired me yet". A man I was happy to know.
  2. That sucks. Good luck, I hope that it's not serious and everyone recovers quickly. All the best wishes for your family.
  3. I've been working on it since my birthday earlier this month. It was tough over the holidays, and I think I might have lost any gains that I made over the first couple of weeks. Regardless, I'm shooting to get down 30lbs. My wife is on board, which will make meals much easier since we'll both be shooting for a healthier diet. I'm also getting back on the Peloton after an extended hiatus. It's tough to find the time with the 2 kids, but I'm finding it somewhere. Also taking a couple of walks during the day and drinking more water. Good luck Chef (and everyone riding the same boat). Looking forward to stealing some of your ideas.
  4. Live from the woods. Not hunting, just out for a little post-Christmas nature walk with Miss Ellie. It was beautiful out.
  5. I'll be installing my wife's Chris gift when it quits raining
  6. We just bought a 2018 Pacifica this summer. With 2 kids, it beats the daylights out of anything we've had. My wife had a Lincoln MKT before, but even with 3 rows it was cramped before the 2nd kid. We drive back to Illinois a couple of times a year (15 hours) and with the dogs and all of our stuff, that Lincoln was busting at the seams. We haven't done the big trip in the van yet, but it has so much lore room. My wife was a "I'll never drive a minivan" person, but she is in love with it. I wish it was AWD, but I haven't had any issues with the FWD so far. It's a great ride, plenty of room, and it feels just as "luxury" as her Lincoln did. We don't have a single regret.
  7. I generally stop up in Wilton every few weeks or so. I haven't seen much in the way of larger calibers, but have bought some 22lr and 12ga. in the past couple of months. I guess it depends on which day you stop in. Dick's in Wilton is getting some in as well, I bought some 22lr a while back. They have a bunch of 300 Savage, but at a "sale price" of $60 per box, I'm going to sit on what I have
  8. As a Cornell Contract College Staff person, we've been getting several emails about this. Again, not looking to argue, because it's widely know that vaccinated people are still contracting Covid. However, when 99% of the population is vaccinated (even though the article says 97%), of course the chance of the majority of cases being in those who are vaccinated is high. Would that "majority" be different if only 50% were vaccinated? What if it were 70%? Who knows? I'm simply saying, in my small circle of folks, 100% of those dealing with Covid (3 people total) are unvaccinated. You have stated your experience is not the same, and I'm sure that's true as well.
  9. Thanks for sharing, I've spread the word to a few of my volunteers. Nice to see shelves getting stocked here and there with not unreasonable prices.
  10. I was expecting a video of Charlie Rich! Very cool, thanks for sharing!
  11. I just plain know more vaccinated people than unvaxxed, so my personal experience is likely to be skewed from the onset. Regardless, the only people that are in my circle who are still dealing with Covid right now are unvaxxed. Obviously it's the opposite for you. This is why anecdotal evidence is so unreliable.
  12. Yep, I've heard plenty about all of it. It sounds like vaccinated are less likely to get seriously ill or die. I chose to get vaccinated, and so far haven't had Covid to my knowledge. I hope it stays that way. Regardless, it's your choice to make, I'm not going to argue that at all. Really, I'm not going to argue any of it, I'm intrigued by all of the discussion and the points raised by both sides. This was merely an observation on a radio discussion I was listening to.
  13. It's funny, I'm listening to a discussion right now about if those who refuse to take the vaccine will turn down the Pfizer pill if they get sick. Someone said "there are no atheists in foxholes". It's an interesting discussion. My bandmate who is still recovering from Covid refused to get the vaccine. Now, he has told us that he and his family will be getting it when they can because he doesn't want to go through that again.
  14. It sucks that you didn't find him after the shot, but I'm happy to hear you wound up with the rack. Fantastic buck! Those brow tines are awesome.
  15. That's too bad. Hopefully, since you're vaxxed, your symptoms stay mild. That's what I've seen from my friends who have had it, the only one's who have gotten really sick weren't vaccinated. Regardless, I hope you guys recover quickly!
  16. 2021 was a great year for me. My wife and I welcomed our 2nd daughter in October (a 2021 surprise) and our family is happy and healthy. Covid forced me to think outside the box with work, and I was able to create some creative and unique programming. Not that I'm in it for the accolades, I was recognized for 5 awards at the NYS 4-H level. The band started playing again, and outside of a few recent Covid issues, we've been having a lot of fun playing music again. On the hunting side, I didn't get to spend a lot of time in the field this year. However, I was able to accomplish all of the goals I set for the 2021 season. It was a good year, and I'm going into 2022 with positive and hopeful thoughts for myself and all of you!
  17. I always use Track of the Wolf.
  18. The burn rate might be true, but I think the bigger issues is limiting yourself to 50gr increments. 50 gr. isn't enough in my sidelock, and my groups with 100gr. kind of suck. 80 gr. is the sweet spot, which I couldn't adjust to with pellets.
  19. You could probably get away with pellets and sabots, but that gun isn't designed for them. I don't have a Hawken, but my New Englander does best with 80gr of Pyrodex with a PRB. The twist rate on that gun probably isn't fast enough for a sabot. If I were you, I'd try to hunt up some loose powder, patches and balls. See what it shoots best and have a lot of fun making some smoke! Great job on the refurbish by the way, it looks awesome! I hope the bore is still in good shape. If it matches that you've got on the outside, you should have a fine rifle. Hopefully you have a front sight as well
  20. I'll echo @kpkot. Our 4-H program works a lot with the DEC Saratoga Tree Nursery. The nursery manager is a great guy, an avid sportsman, and as far as I know they have great trees.
  21. I know a lot of guys will practice with an air rifle, might be worth a try. Plus, it's cheap shooting Air Venturi and Umarex are making some rifles now that really feel like a firearm. We have a couple (with 2 more on the way) of the Air Venturi Springfield M1's. They have a good weight to them, and feel like holding an actual rifle. Umarex is making a 10/22 version for Ruger as well that feels pretty similar to a real 10/22.
  22. I'm kind of the opposite, where my flinch shows up when I'm really focusing and thinking about it, doesn't matter with gun or bow. I know that when it shows up with my bow, I pull out my long bow and shoot instinctive for a while. Not too much thought goes into it. There are probably a ton of great tips that are going to come through this thread. I know that in teaching youth, if I suspect that they are flinching, I'll throw in a "dummy" to demonstrate. When we first start shooting with kids, we load their firearms for them. If I have a kid flinching, I'll act like I load a round, but leave the chamber empty. It demonstrates it right away. From there, we usually will start them down a gauge or gun. So, if they are flinching with .22, we'll go back to air rifle until they get it under control. If they are having issues with a 12 gauge, we move them down to a 20, if it's a 20, we move back to .410 and shoot at coke cans. It's all about building confidence, at least with the kids. I'm not an adult instructor, so I don't have much experience in diagnosing or remedying long-term/persistent issues, so these might not work. I'm interested to see what other have to say.
  23. So you're shooting left-handed, correct, with a dominant left eye? You can find Left Handed kits. These a higher end kits, but I'm sure Traditions or someone makes cheaper ones as well. https://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/623/1
  24. I really want to build a kit one of these days. I know that right now I don't have the time to learn, but it is a goal of mine.
