  1. They are W.R. Case, it’s a Russlock pattern. Case makes a few other one hand open patterns, but the Russlock is my favorite.
  2. I got started collecting when I was in my late teens. Between my dad and an uncle, I learned a lot about US made folders, though there’s still a lot to learn. I primarily collect “carry” knives, ones that I’m not afraid to throw in my pocket, with my favorites being Case and Western. I’ve got to say, trappers are one of my favorite patterns, but hard to open with my nails. I have an old Western “Raccoon” single blade liner lock trapper style with a skinner blade that has the EZ open cutouts that I carry quite often.
  3. I keep hearing guys talk about practicing with BB guns, and I think that’s a great way to keep sharp. My issue has always been finding a pellet rifle that felt like a hunting rifle. Well, today I got to mess around with a couple of our new program guns, both are cO2 pellet guns. One is an AirVenturi Springfield Armory licensed M-1 style, and the other is a Umarex Ruger licensed 10/22 style. They have built these guns to look and feel like the real thing, both in size and weight. I’ve not messed with M-1s much, but it really felt good. The 10/22 style really felt like holding and sighting an actual 10/22. Even though I haven’t shot them yet, I’d say that they would make a great practice tool. I didn’t take any photos, but I just googled a few.
  4. It's a gold mine that I hope eventually loses value though, prices are plenty out of hand.
  5. I've been on a big Russlock kick lately, and since my new stag handle showed up today, I figured I'd share. As a nail biter, I find nail nicks almost impossible to operate, however, I'm a traditional folder type of guy, so I don't go for the the tactical, assisted opening knives. I've found that the Case Russlock is my favorite one hand opener. I do like my full size Sodbuster, as well as my EZ open trapper for pinch opening, but now that I have the knack for opening the Russlock, I usually have one of these guys in my pocket. I also like that they are a liner lock, making for easy one hand closing as well. My favorite blade is the drop point, but I couldn't pass up the pretty stag on the clip. The others are an antique smooth bone, and a saw cut molasses bone.
  6. We sold some at our 4-H auction in October for 30 cents a round, but I kind of figured that was a mix of lack of supply and charity. Looking like 30 cents or more might be the norm before too long.
  7. 22 cents a round for .22lr? I'd rather throw rocks. I'm glad I have enough to last me for a while.
  8. No, I don't know the name of the group. I tried looking him up on Facebook, but I think he took down all of his social media. I haven't talked to him for a long time, really since I left that band, but at one time we were pretty close.
  9. We're talking about 2 entirely different things here, so I'll bow out and let you have your argument.
  10. That probably was the case, but what does that have to do with white supremist groups?
  11. For sure, no one side owns extremism. Before I found out about my ex-bandmate, "radicalization" was something that happened on the news. When you know someone who has been radicalized, it changes the perspective and hits close to home. You realize that most extremists are real people who have been more or less corrupted, rather than just some faceless "bad guy".
  12. I'll take you up on that sometime Chris! Between me and my daughter, we can polish off a mess ourselves (my wife hates that my daughter likes them).
  13. I'll help, take a look at page 18. I don't have a dog in this fight, so I'm not looking to pick one. Just one anecdotal example, but one of my friends and former drummers has been radicalized in a extreme right white supremist militia in Missouri. When I was home in July, I met up with one of my best friends, and guitar player in that band. I asked him about Nathan, and he just shook his head. He still plays a couple times a month with this guy's brother, and apparently he has left his family, moved to somewhere in Missouri and lives at some kind of compound. Now, this is all hearsay on my part, but heartbreaking none the less. Nathan was always a great guy, we practiced at his house, and he was a stay at home dad for his severely autistic son. It has really opened my eyes to how good people can get pulled to the extreme. I just hope he can come back.
  14. I'll probably go in and scope things out, maybe leave a bid or 2. I didn't see much on the listing that caught my eye though. He generally has a lot of gun shop owners come to the auctions, so I would imagine they will scoop up the biggest majority.
  15. Looks like there is a good bit of ammo going up for auction in Ballston Spa later this month. https://www.auctionzip.com/Listings/3519333.html
  16. I remember my dad telling a guy to leave and never ask to go hunting again when he took a "brush" shot amongst the dogs. It was a guy he worked with who wanted to go with us. He really set things off by shooting a squirrel that day while we were rabbit hunting, but when he shot around the dogs...I don't know that I had ever seen my dad so mad. Fortunately none of the dogs were hit, but you are correct, safety is all about the individual.
  17. I love hunting them late summer when they are cutting nuts. This was the first time I had ever went post-deer season, and I certainly could have picked a better day. However, with a young daughter and my wife at home, I have to take my "woods time" when I can get it. Still, it was a lot of fun to be out. Maybe I can find another day this weekend. Thanks for the advice!
  18. When I was hunting cottontails over dogs, I would usually use a 20 or 12 shooting 6's with a Modified. One of the 20's I used had a fixed Improved Cylinder and it did fine. The only misses I ever had were my own fault, and I can't remember ever really tearing up the rabbit too much.
  19. I wish I would have taken some pictures, but I took my old Remington pump .22 out squirrel hunting on Sunday. Never got a shot, but did see 3. I've never hunted them this time of year, so I'm probably going about it the totally wrong way. Regardless, it was nice to spend a few hours in the woods.
  20. Having the government get involved in a citizen's right to personal property. This is exactly what I would expect to hear from a socialist/leninist/marxist/leftist. Sorry, I couldn't help myself
  21. I stumbled on this book last week and ordered it. It’s a historical fiction murder-mystery, that takes place in my hometown, Bone Gap, IL. I’m not much of a mystery reader, but I can’t pass it up. Taking place in the 1800’s, is pretty neat to picture what “home” looked like. I messaged back and forth with the author before receiving the book, and he said that his sister and brother-in-law live in the country outside of town. I don’t know them personally, but I know who they are and where they live. He said he did a lot of research on the area and the families who lived there at the time. So far, it’s pretty good.
  22. Just throwing another good shooting sports organization out there. The National Shooting Sports Foundation does a lot to support youth shooting sports and education. https://www.nssf.org/
  23. I worked with a guy who said that if he won a lottery like that, he'd see just what it would take to get fired. He had a whole schedule of what he'd do, 2 hour lunches, showing up without pants, etc. I've never bought a lottery ticket, and probably never will... Hopefully one of you guys hit it big!
