  1. I just wanted to follow-up on this book after finishing it. Though I’m sure my critique will mellow out after a few days, I would say this is one of the best books I have ever read. Beyond the nostalgia of being a “boy”, it really made me think about my expectations of what it means to be a “man”. The plot is great, but the sentiment of the magic of being a boy, while realizing the reality of the world is spot on. If you have not read this book, I cannot recommend it enough.
  2. I thought the same thing, one quick bob of the head and he would've had an antler in the groin. I'm happy to see he got them apart though. I really doubt the smaller one is going to make it though, he looked like he was on the way out. You never know though, they are tough animals.
  3. Hadn't seen it, that was a fun watch though. Thanks for sharing it.
  4. I'm really enjoying this thread. Thanks @airedalefor mentioning the YouTube videos, those have been a lot of fun to watch.
  5. I'm glad someone found them. We keep a bunch of printed copies at our office to hand out.
  6. I was told that in my county there were around 300 applications ahead of mine, and they process a couple a day. I hope it's a speedy process for her.
  7. I really enjoyed “IT” up until that part. I actually skipped over it after I realized what was going on.
  8. I’m about half way through this book, and I’ll say it has hit me pretty hard. Anyone that grew up in a small town will appreciate this piece of fiction. Honestly, it’s kind of messed with my dreams a little bit in the past few days, bringing back memories of my home town and lost loved ones. I highly recommend it. Surprisingly, I had never heard of the author before. When I saw him compared to Stephen King and the book compared to “IT”, I thought I’d give it a chance. I’m really glad I did.
  9. We use Roku and just kind of add and subtract services as shows come and go. We get all of our locals and several network channels via the Spectrum app, which is like $15 or $20 in addition to our internet bill. Our only real staples are Disney (we have a toddler), Netflix and Prime. I don’t have any experience with YouTube TV, but our system works well for us as long as the internet is working.
  10. I didn’t take it poorly, no worries. My sentiments exactly on the sports reference. Ever notice how network ads for the debates look really similar to boxing match promos? That type of thing only furthers the “us” vs “them” mentality, which is in part why we are at the point we are today.
  11. I hope you don’t think I’m trying to put words in your mouth or insinuate that you meant something you didn’t. Your comment kind of hung with me though. Maybe on this site I’m viewed as a liberal, but I think I’m more of a left leaning moderate. I have my opinions, but I’m open to other perspective and can occasionally be swayed by it.
  12. I appreciate all of the discussion of this topic, and there have been some extremely good points raised, points that have really made me think. A couple of things that have been rolling around in my ole noggin over the past 24 hours are. 1. It is incredibly hypocritical of me to adamantly support something until it adversely effects me. If I could retract my complaint I would be tempted, but on the other hand, it wouldn’t have caused this reflection on my part. 2. While if asked, I would still say I support UBC, I’m certainly more conflicted. I guess it’s easy to cast blanket support for something without thinking about the impacts of it. I guess where I’m currently at is reflected well with @Nomad expressing no problem with them as long as they were cheap, fast, and efficient. Ultimately, I’m just happy that I was challenged and it has caused me to think about things more. So, again, thanks for the discussion, I really do appreciate the perspective.
  13. What you saw as a bribe, I see as a suggestion for pandemic relief and economic stimulus. Heck, I don’t even agree with it totally. I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who need the relief, but my family is doing okay. I would have suggested more targeted relief, but I don’t know how much trouble it would be to do that, and most importantly, I’m not running for office. If you think Biden bribed voters with a payment, it would be safe to say Trump bribed voters in 2016 with a tax cut. The only difference is Trump said citizens could keep more of their own money, and Biden is suggesting they get some of it back. I’m not looking to argue which is right or wrong, because I don’t have much opinion either way. You may not like how I voted, and that’s fine. However, I’m not ashamed of it. I’ll be the first to tell you I voted for Biden because 1. I didn’t want to vote for Trump and 2. I think Biden will be a better President. Trump maybe even had more policies that I agree with, but I still believe Biden will do a better job. I very well may be wrong, and most anyone who knows me would say that betting on me being wrong is usually the safe bet. But, if I’m wrong, I’ll be more than happy to own it, trust me, I have plenty of practice. I hope I’m not though. Also, not a bot. If you want to post some pictures and have me select the ones with “buses” or “crosswalks” or whatnot, feel free.
  14. I really don’t care to get my carry permit, honestly, I’ll rarely shoot this gun. I think you have to have your permit for a year in order to apply for a carry permit, which obviously has another application as well as another course requirement.
  15. Hero Worship is a great term. I’m not by any means saying that all of his supporters do, but I think there is a minority that do, whether they would admit it or not. And you are correct, that song is creepy and disturbing.
  16. I’d argue, but that is a fair enough statement.
  17. I don’t understand anyone who can advocate for Trump’s behavior and takes issue with Biden’s character. Most everyone who has worked with Biden has nothing but praise for his character and conduct, even if they don’t agree with him. Even Lindsey Graham said “God never made a better man than Joe Biden”, this is the same man who on Wednesday said he prayed that Biden would lose. Pretty much the exact opposite for Trump, even for people who are on his side of the coin can’t stand him. I take no issue with anyone supporting Trump, but if you do, I don’t think you have much ground to stand on when it comes to attacking someone on their character.
  18. Last summer my dad told me he wanted to give me his old Smith and Wesson revolver. Knowing that I had to have a permit in NYS, I told him to hold on to it until I checked out the process. After seeing what I needed to do, and the first step being to “purchase” a handgun, I had him ship it to my FFL so I could get the receipt. This was late July. I scheduled for my course in August, and the next available class was early December. Fortunately, my county approved an online course in October, and I took it. $60 later, I had my certificate. When I called to make an appointment to drop my application off, they booked me for April 15th. I got a call this week saying they could fit me in today. After a $40 application fee, I was handed a card to make an appointment for fingerprints, that carry’s a $102 fee. I was also told that after my prints and references come back, it will be about 5 months before my application gets in front of a judge. So, after almost a year and $200 in fees, I’m hopeful I can get the handgun that my father has gifted me. I’ll be the first to advocate for Universal Background checks (hold your comments, I know that’s not a popular stance around here), but this is way overkill in my eyes. It also makes it nearly impossible for someone with limited means to obtain a pistol permit in my opinion. I’m fortunate that I can afford the fees, but not everyone has the financial or time resources. Sorry for the rant, but just wanted to vent some frustration.
  19. https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/alabama-man-charged-possession-eleven-molotov-cocktails-found-near-protest-us-capitol Some of these people came prepared to carry out genuine terroristic attacks. I’m glad they weren’t able to carry out the full extent of what they were prepared to do. I hope investigators can track down all of these terrorists and hopefully crackdown on further potential attacks. I’m really torn on the suspension of Parler and the like, but I tend to come down on the side of shutting these things down since these type of platforms are where these people were radicalized and able to coordinate an attack that could have been much worse. Some of these people were radicalized in my eyes, no different than jihadists. They were convinced that this thing is a holy war, and Donald Trump is their prophet. I don’t know how some people can’t see the danger in this. They are not Patriots, they are fanatics. I just hope this stuff is snuffed out and people can get back to being able to disagree. The idea of someone with a different perspective being your enemy is ridiculous, and is becoming very dangerous. This isn’t about someone supporting Donald Trump, it’s about these people who seem to almost worship him.
  20. I park mine as soon as I see a chance for ice. I’ve laid enough bikes over in my life, I don’t need that anymore.
  21. As a Vespa fan and rider, I’d cruise town in that thing anytime
  22. Trust me, I hope for nothing but positive things for you and your family, and that goes for everyone else on here.
