  1. Just to play devil's advocate, and please understand, I am really torn about the idea of carrying. The point that comes to my mind is: If a "bad guy" enters an establishment with a firearm intending to kill/injure, and we have lets say 6 people in said establishment who are carrying, and intend to stop said "bad guy". These folks who are looking to stop the shooting are looking for an individual with a gun, not realizing that there are 6x as many "good guys" with weapons drawn, as there is the one "bad guy". Lets say there is a friendly fire incident, one of the good guys come around a corner, sees another person with a gun, and they fire. Additionally, when the police show up, they are looking for someone with a gun, if they come around a corner and someone has a gun, is it justifiable to use lethal force, even if that person is a "good guy". This is just a scenario that plays out when I think about this. Now, I'm not trained in concealed carry, so there may be intensive training in recognizing a threat that covers this. I'm not looking for an argument here, not at all. If someone can kind of guide my thinking, I would really appreciate the insight. Honestly, thoughts like this, are just one of the reasons that I doubt I will ever CC. I'm not saying that the other side of that coin "a good guy with a gun could have stopped this" isn't valid, I totally see that too. Again, not saying any side is wrong.
  2. I'm looking to replace the tires on my Outback, which have a stock size of 225/60/17, and have found a deal on a set of 225/65/17. Would anyone know if this size change would effect much other than speedo/odometer?
  3. That thing is sweet! Congrats!
  4. The biggest expense will be shipping and FFL transfer from Illinois. My dad keeps saying "I'll just send them back with you when you come out this summer" and I have to remind him that doesn't work The long guns he's given me aren't a big deal, but the handguns have to be shipped and transferred. Oh well....
  5. I just found out my license was approved and I'm able to pick it up on Friday. Right now I have one gun sitting at an FFL waiting to be picked up, but in talking to my dad, he's wanting to gift me a few more. Can anyone tell me how many handguns you can have on your permit? I've been digging through Google to find out, but can't seem to come up with an answer?
  6. The NMLRA has their Muzzle Blasts podcast. I'm not an avid listener, but the couple that I've listened to were interesting. Not necessarily dedicated to only hunting, but certainly related. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/muzzle-blasts/id1488962940
  7. Making the most of my yard work with my first fire of 2021
  8. I’m sorry for your loss. Not many decisions are tougher than that one, even when you know it’s right.
  9. I just wanted to thank you for this suggestion. I had some lead in both my 12 and 20ga A5’s from shooting slugs. I brushed those things repeatedly and got nowhere with the lead. I did the Chore Boy trick this afternoon, and both of those bores are now bright and shiny. Thanks!
  10. Yes, the notched tip on the main blade is designed to catch on a pocket or belt loop, which allows it to open with one hand. I never thought I would purchase a Rough Ryder on purpose, but I’m really impressed with the value on my razor trapper. It’s got some gapping in the scales, and some tool marks here and there, but for the price it is a sharp, tight knife. Good luck with yours.
  11. That is quite the shop. I’ll have to stop over sometime. It’s a couple of hours, good for a day trip. I’ve been wanting to tour some of the old New York knife factories. It’s amazing how much cutlery history takes place in NYS.
  12. I forgot about my Queen City One Arm as well. Another beautiful example with some worm jigged bone. This one is probably another on that will stay in the cabinet for the most part.
  13. The cold weather has been leaving me with entirely too much time to browse eBay and some of my favorite knife sites, and I’ve been grabbing some good deals. I thought I’d share a few of my most recent additions. I really like traditional folders, especially slip joints. Also, being a serial nail biter, I’m extremely interested in one hand and easy open knives. I recently took an interest in learning about one arm razor/jack patterns. The original pattern was designed after the Civil War for soldiers who had an arm/hand amputation and needed a knife they could open with one hand. In the photos you’ll see a few of these. The 2nd from the top is a Case Bros. 62005RAZ. I got it for a song on eBay. The seller took some time in shipping, and as an apology told me he was adding a “gift” to my order, which turned out to be the Stag Mini Copperlock at the top. I put a thumb stud on it yesterday so I can open it with one hand, and this thing will now be a steady part of my carry rotation. The small razor below the Case is a Boker “One Armed Jack” a nice little knife that will more than likely live in my cabinet. The bottom 2 are both Rough Ryders from China. I had all but sworn off Chinese knives, but after getting interested in the one arm knives, I spent the $17 for the red Razor Trapper that you see here. I’ll tell you what, for 17 bucks, this thing is a killer deal for a carry knife. I love the trapper size and it can easily hook a pocket or belt loop to open one handed. It is also easy to pinch open. The blue one is Rough Ryder’s higher end “Reserve” Easy Open Razor. I was intrigued by so many reviews comparing the Reserve knives to GEC, I decided to pick one up for $40. It really is a nicely made knife that just may come close to GEC quality for less than 1/4 of the price. I also ordered the Reserve Kayak, which is a take on the Canoe pattern. It’s supposed to be a great knife as well for $50. I am waiting on a Canal Street made “Union Razor” one arm to come in as well. The eBay seller didn’t have it described well, and I just happened upon it the other night and won it for a steal.
  14. Thanks for that suggestion, I have a couple of shotguns that need to have a little lead removed, I’ll give this a shot.
  15. That thing takes some great photos!
  16. I'll be focusing primarily on bow season this year, trying to get one or two in the freezer early. My season is going to be interrupted by some pretty significant life changes by late October/early November. I'm hopeful I'll have a chance to get out for a day or two with my ML during the new "holiday" season, but it will definitely be on the back burner. So for me, I'll probably be focusing heavily on late summer/early fall scouting, and trying to find some strong travel corridors. I'm also thinking about trying a piece of property that I haven't hunted before. I have a friend who hunts the front piece of the property, but he never goes over the creek. I might try to get back in that woods this summer and see what I can find.
  17. This is the best visualization of Equity that I have been presented with. You can agree with it or not, it's your prerogative, but I think it at least has some merit.
  18. I thought the same thing, but in the first picture, that rear leg looks slightly more extended, so that could make the difference. I can't be sure though.
  19. Sure does look similar. I don't know that there's anyway to be 100%, but I'd say it's a safe bet that it's the same deer.
  20. I used to collect with my grandpa when I was a kid. I don't know how many thousand cards we ended up with. Along with music, it was our "thing". Unfortunately, I don't know what ever happened to them. If I had to guess, my brother sold them for beer money when he moved in with my grandma. Still, the memories are way more valuable than the cards ever were. I know that card prices were down as of a few years ago, but I don't know if that's changed. Good luck with finding some values, and I hope you find something of value in them!
  21. It’s been years since I have read any of the Joe Pickett novels, I really enjoyed them. They are some great mysteries. I’ll have to add another to my list soon. Thanks for reminding me about those books.
  22. Takes place in France in the late 14th century, during the plague. I’m not too deep into it, but it’s building to be the story of a displaced Knight and a little girl who communicates with angels. Basically, demons are roaming the earth during the plague, and I’m sure there will be one epic battle of good and evil with humanity trapped in the middle.
  23. I’ve been on a horror kick lately, and recently found a recommendation for a Historical Fiction/Horror novel by Christopher Buehlman. I’m a quarter of the way into “Between Two Fires”, and it is a great blend of two of my favorite genres.
