I love still hunting. Bought a stand in 2001 I used it less than 5 times. Do not disregaurd tree stands, when you have a choke point you want to hunt they are great. Advantages are many with a stand especially if you are limited in space. I used a stand in big woods one time, never again. Plus I do not like sitting in one spot all day... I like to roam and see if I can figure the deer tacks. I give credit for tree stand hunters, that is some cold hunting up them trees. Plus I like the fair chase with ground hunting, makes it more interesting and I learn much more on the ground than 20 feet up.

Condolences to the family.

Such a shame. I wonder if it was self inflicted or if they are looking for someone. RIP

That sucks. I would explain that you will no longer hunt with them and you are going to hunt alone or in a new area. Explain your disappointment in them and that you would love to hunt with them if they can maintain some discipline and better hunting ethics. Good luck, hope it works out ok for you.

Very nice!!! Sounds like the property is a keeper!!! Congrats on a nice bear, thanks for sharing!

Very Nice DOC!!! Congrats! Pics? All this talk about guns is FUN! A gun is like owning a car, you can argue many things but all will get you from point A to point B, if you are skilled enough with it. Shoot often so when the time comes, SHOOTING will not be the issue because the gun will be on target waiting... And be Safe!!!

Good luck! Be Safe!

A Guild to Adirondack Deer Hunting by Mr.Charles Alsheimer. They do not sleep like us. They move and take naps. http://justnorth.com/Articles/tabid/105/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/2759/PageID/2442/Do_Whitetail_Deer_Sleep_and_Where_Do_Deer_Sleep_.aspx Deer are natural nocturnal animals. During rut bucks tend to get careless and roam more often covering much larger area's to inspect doe herds often during the day. Try to find good doe tracks or sign and follow them, choke points are good, if you can be in the area of the doe the bucks will come. Stay in the woods as long as you can, pack a lunch and extra food and know how to get out in the dark. Deer have no time table. Good luck! Hope you get a monster!

That's sucks, best to just let it go. Sounds like an idiot. I try to just let stuff like that go. Next time tell him you will come over and help. Talking too close ARG and open mouth eating can get really annoying! I had a friend who was a close talker, someone must have said something because he finally stopped doing it. Funny but most people who do it do not realize. I usually ended up in the corner of the room from stepping back every time they moved in, funny stuff. Good luck tomorrow be safe.

Hunting presser can have very big effects. That survey is for rifle, no? I do believe hunting in NY is harder than many states. Fair chase rules apply! That makes it much more rewarding! And gun season is filled with hunters especially in the southern zone. Happy I still have a bow tag for LI, just wish I did not have so much to do on Sat or I would be out.

Yard work ARG, going to try and get out Sunday.

Lucky for me I like to go uphill when I hunt, made the drag mostly downhill but it was still exhausting thats for sure!
-
I wanted to stay at least one more day due to exhaustion but he was just not into it and was missing his family. As much as I wanted to stay a few more days and enjoy the bliss, I did not want to take down the camp by myself again. I tried convincing him to let me film him and the fact that IF I could help him get his first buck, that would be even better than me getting my 3rd and would put the icing on the cake! Even after explaining that the Brute of the moutian was probably still in the area, he still did not want to stay, something I have a hard time understanding but in my sheer bliss and exhaustion I was very agreeable with anything he wanted to do.

Mr.Alsheimer and Mr.Laroche have been doing research on this subject of Moon phase for many years and as far as I am concerned thier is no better authority on the subject as it pertians to where I hunt. Great topic and very easily debated. No wrongs here just a differance of opinions is all. Plain and simple from the start of November to the end I want to be in the woods regardless of any predictions!
