I agree with most everything you say scot, Good post, just realize the media TRY to make him look bad. Just saying take what they show you with a grain of salt.

I am glad we have him on our side, yet he is not the best rep... Plain and simple... With all the hollywood types, PETA, Gun controls and politician against us, it is nice to have someone with us, even if he is a little off. We have very little in so far as good OUTSPOKEN representation for hunters with celebrities and or outspoken individuals. The best thing I like about him is he stirs the pot... And makes for good Blog posts, lol... I question his morals yet from what I have seen of him hunting, he represents hunters well on his shows... Does he represent us all, NO. Yet he is outspoken and stands up for us when NO other person will. Would any of you threaten our president in any way publicly? He did to wake up the voters and took the heat for it. He has a golden set of you know what thats for sure... Represent yourself as a hunter and leave Ted to fight for our 2nd ammendment, Amen to that!!!

Still opens up image properties/url site or what ever the mouse is hovering over when I click to post. Are we missing the link for your post? I wanted to check something and do not see a tab for "your" post. Forum , Portal, Contact Us, Calandar, member map, links, hunting NY store. No view your post link? Not sure what tab it was under... Forum and Site was upgraded last night - Any problems?
NFA-ADK replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
Only problems I have with the site is when clicking to post, it opens what ever my mouse is on when clicked. EX: when I click to reply to this, it opened image URL page. Depending on where my mouse is will depend on what opens when I try to reply. Win XP pro SP3 IE 8. O and how do I get spell check to work. I have office 2007 and can use a newer version if needed... It will not allow me to copy and past and images are hard to upload unless you have a url address. -
I think NYAntler, WNYBuckhunter and First-Light got it right... While I love his passion about the 2nd ammendment and our rights he has a huge target on his back with the media and anything he says that can be deemed wrong or improper is blown out of proportion and sesationalized. Rather have him on my side than against I just wish as a rep. for hunters he was a little more level headed. The poaching charges in Alaska do not help our cause and as a rep. for the NRA he should have known better...

My MQ1 was a 70lbs w/28 1/2 draw set to 65ish... The Heli is 65 w 28" draw. The speed change is about 20-35 fps change I think. No crono yet... But you might be right on that one WNYBuckHUnter. The charts have me right in the middle with 400 or 340's I will try some 340's and see if it makes a change... Dam I just bought 12 400's with lighted knocks... Arg... In so far as draw length, Yes the new bow is set at 28" (closer to 28 1/4)yet with the new release, D-loop and a extra 1/4 on the draw length adds up to about a 1 1/4 inch dif in anchor points. Wich makes me feel overbowed. Note if the anchor point was back any further I could not shoot this bow... My trigger on the heli is at my anchor point of my MQ1 or very close(around a inch dif). I will try to have someone take a picture to show you guys. A shorter release or tension release would change this putting me back under my chin as a anchor point instead of back of jaw/ear point. I have even tried to tighten the strap on my release to use my wrist bone to hold back the release another inch yet that hurts as it was not designed for the wrist... Like most have said the draw length is the same, but with over a 1 " change in anchor points it affects my set up(form). It took me a week of shooting to find my "feel good" anchor point with the Heli. And yes the anchor point is part of your draw, If the D-loop was 2" you would have to drop your draw length to keep the same anchor point... Anchor point should be consistant with both bow's making a switch in the field due to bow problems a non issue. The biggest factor with me is the fact that the release feels longer and the trigger is further away from my finger on top of feeling overbowed with the back of chin anchor point. If this release was adjustable about one more inch I would be ok. Just spent 1500 $ on the bow, arrows and release so I am going play with the release before spending more money... Plus test out another 6 arrows at 10$ a pop, lol...

My draw length changed due to dif releases, with the on string release which was close causing a under chin anchor point with my thumb, trigger was at my mouth area. With the D-loop you add about a 1/4 inch plus the Helium is known to have a extra 1/4 inch more than advertised making a 28 inch draw 28 1/4. The new release has a trigger that is even longer about a 1/4 inch so my anchor point with the D-loop is the back of my jaw w/thumb. New release all so has my hand back slightly again causing a longer draw point. (I use my 2nd knuck on trigger w/string and 1st knuckle w/D-loop) I am using ICS Beeman Hunter 400 8.4 gpi the same arrows I used with the MQ1. I could go to 340's and see how they shoot but with a 100 grain tip I am on the border of both according to a chart. I use ICS bowhunter 400 8.4 gpi that has slightly less straightness yet is good for practice. I will test the hunters more and see if the wobble is present, I usually save them for hunting. Otherwise I am looking at dif releases due to this one causing a "long" anchor point. I am contemplating taking off the ring and setting the trigger back further on my release, it is adjusted as far back as is possible... I need a overdraw release, or just one that has better adjustment... I think the tension or thumb release would work I just dont like them, yet.

I shoot the D-loop with my new Helium and I use the string release on my MQ1, I tried the D-loop on the MQ1 and ended up switching back due to a dif anchor point. The only dif I notice is the lengthening of my draw with the D-loop. I went down to a 28" draw on my new bow and have 28 1/2" draw on my MQ1. Funny thing is the MQ1 is a shorter anchor point than the 28" Helium, due to 1/4 extra on draw with new bow and D-loop adds another 1/4 and release is dif. Making 2 compleatly dif anchor points... Both shoot good I just have to fix some issues with my form or get someone who knows how to paper tune a bow. According to C & B bows do not need to be paper tuned, yet I see my arrows wobble... And have issues with consistancy on the new bow. I went down to a 65 lbs draw instead of 70. I can not say I am shooting bad as I placed 1st in 1 shoot and I think I tied for 1st last week at Suffolk Archers but the pin point accuracy is not thier...

I only hunted for Turkey one time but it was fun. One thing I can tell you is calling is huge. My brother is a great caller and called birds right into me, like the experts say know when to stop calling... Possibly try a dif call, you might get a better reaction. Good luck and keep at it!

Nope it is a fact, this is a Moutian Lion! LOL PROOF finally. I like the beagle theory... Makes sence with the hight of the cam.

Check out your local rifle range and local gun clubs/stores. Otherwise welcome to hunting, best of luck and be safe! If you like bow and arrow it can open another world into hunting. Buy and know how to use a GPS, map and compass and have all 3. Plan on staying the night everytime you hunt, if you don't no big deal, IF you do stay the night you will be thankfull you prepaired for it. If cell service works in your area charge your bat and shut it off untile needed... Best hunt is when all come back safe, all else is just details!!! What type of hunting do you want to do?

They are inquisitive thats for sure!

Good decoy for ground blind anyway! At least it takes the attention off of the blind. I think it would be good in my "ambush" area's to keep the deer on a visual other than myself yet I would hate to scent the area that much before my ambush... Cool Vid, Thanks for sharing!

After a long day of computer repair and listening to woman complain about multiple issues I needed a brake! So I headed off to the Green Belt Trail by Cold Spring Harbor with the intension of looking for tracks or any proof of deer. I ask at least 15 dif. "hikers" if they have ever seen or heard of deer on or around this trail. NOPE NO DEER HERE... (Not surpised as many hikers are not in tune to nature as they think, IMO.) OK So I head in. To say it only took me 5 min would be a understatement. The first logical area I check out I jump a deer. I found what appeared to be fawn tracks on the way out... Not surprised for this time of the year. Did not take long to verify that area... I am going to check out Koster Park next chance I get and possibly check the fields by Oakwood Road. Funny how just seeing a deer makes my day, Esp when no other people on the trail even know they are thier and I jump one in less than a 5 min scout... So much food for deer in those woods, amazing. Made my day, next time I will bring the cam corder, this was spur of the moment... Hiking in Dockers and a collared shirt probably looks funny with everyone on the well worn trail dressed as hikers and me asking about deer probably raised some eyebrows so I made it short and sweet and thankfully successful!

I could not... Looks like a pet.

I heard of one by Suffolk Archers crossing Pidgion Hill Road and was in disbelieve yet I heard the story of them leaving that construcion area too soo possibly true... I am not surprised they are in Oyster bay due to them being in Loyd Neck and making that crossing or by land. Shame they get killed like that instead of good use...

They are on the Northern state Pky. Doe killed 2 weeks ago on East lane not sure of closest exit, West of Round Swamp Rd. I am told by a few local they have been in West Hills for a while so my 30 year estimate is way off... I did the shoot this morning so no scouting done. I am trying to get intouch with one of the park officials and a worker who hunts and I am sure has the inside scoop... Details to follow. I think Antlers is 100% right with the Green Belt Trail, makes scence with were they are being spotted... They never stop amazing me...

After shooting our 3D shoot at Thrill Of The Hunt I took off a month to get my back in shape... The target panic I had seemed to be related to my back issue's, not much of a suprise considering how importian your back is with shooting. Since then I have purchased a new Helium from Mathews, my 2nd bow. Went down to a 65 lbs with a 28" I shot a 259 last week and a 261 today with it, I did not shoot great but it was not bad... I hate getting up on Sundays for a 3 D shoot, Hunting yes 3D ahh not so much... LOL But it's fun!!! Suffolk 3D shoots are open to the public if anyone wants to join me... Next weekend is mothers day, no shoot... This is our calendar. http://www.suffolkarchers.com/schedule.html

You drove the nail through the wood on that one Doc!!! -
Great pics Wooly, Thanks for sharing!!!

The acorn and resulting mice population we had was a big cause from what I read. The weather just seems to be a factor yet is supposedly not as much as you would think... You would think a good freeze would make a big dif but apparently they can survive it.

All part of the game, I can not tell you how upset I was after tracking deer on 2 dif occasions and missing both in a perfect ambush the next day. One due to not compensating a 10 ft shot with a gun sighted in at 50 yards and another due to a fogged scope. Don't let it get you down, let it drive you to evaluate the mistakes and improve your self for next time! Like Bubba said, keep at it and go get them tomorrow!!! I look forward to seeing your success pics!!! Go get them!!! My mistakes have helped me improve my skills that is for sure. Good luck Phade!!!
