I did not know it was illegal to spotlight? I did not know I can not hunt with a 22 for big game. I did not know the speed limit was 55MPH. I did not know it was illegal to carry a loaded rifle in my truck. I am sure the ECO have heard it all before. Just because you don't know the law does not mean you can disregaurd it. Agreed we need rain. I am hearing from a local that the fires are starting on LI again... Wont be long till it starts upstate if the rain does not come. I usually like to go up to saranac but I hate it when the levels are low, and so does my prop...

They should put lojack in these things. This way the police can go directly to the persons house and say KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK, yea we tracked a stolen camera to this residence, care to comment or should we get a warrent? Bet they would find a lot of stolen stuff... Makes me second guese using them on public land...

That is the best way to catch them, if not set up a survalence camera if possible. Second best is set up a few additional cams to catch the perp. Hope you get them!!!

OK I used all my likes up for the day! I just can not accept the gov envolment with health care. Make them (all gov.) use the same health care we use. A gov. position was suppose to be a position of repect and was typically a low paying job that ended when you finished you term. Now you get full dental, medical and get paid for life at a impressive salary. Remove the high salary, remove the full coverage, remove the lifetime benifits... This is what happens when officials are allowed to give themselves a raise and better benifits, it spirals out of control, just like health care would. WHY would I expect anything differant from the Gov. with health care, they ruined my SS, now you want me to let them take care of me, NO THANKS. If you are illegal you will be sent back to your country reguardless of your health condition or any condition. This by itself would save billions. Stop the frivolous law suits in health care and don't hold the doctor responisble for your poor health, they are trying to help. If you don't like his oppinion get a 2nd or 3rd... PS: Who needs health care the zombie apocolypse is coming!!! Sorry just had to lighten up the subject... Scary stuff.

Looking forward to your report Single_shot... Having little time to actually get upstate to scout I usually do it during bow season or the week of the hunt. Yet if I can get a few of these cam's set up I would have additional scouting information availible with a extra trip... Just want to make sure it is worth the 6 hour drive up.

SnowCamo you need to provide facts when badgering someone like this. Regaurdless of what he and his family are accused of... Otherwise it just looks like you are jealous. I am not saying you are wrong but accusations like that require proof for it to be accepted on this site... Especially since you are new to posting here... We are a bunch of dedicated hunters and would hate it if some one said one of our bucks was taken illegally when it was not... Otherwise two awsome bucks!!! Congrats to both hunters!!!

Is it me or do a lot of big LI deer have unusual antlers. The big one's never seem to be normal. Inbreeding? I am by no means putting it down the racks just seem crazy and misformed.

Social Security Medicare Out of control fed and state salaries, pensions, medical and dental coverage. War's we can not afford at the cost of good american lives. Oil prices that our middle to poor can not afford yet our gov does nothing. Now you want me to trust the people who messed all this up with my health care? I think you know my point of view... They can not even fix what is broken now and you want me to think this health care is not going to spiral out of control, sure, twinkie anyone?

I have to agree with most. The dooms day predictions are a cause of much of this. That stock is so basic yet effective, hard to ban that stock I would think. Technicaly it is still a single shot, WOW, unreal. I look forward to cheap weapons in 2013, think thats when I will scoop up my new guns and ammo. Otherwise I can't blame the young for being pissed, our system is pathetic and now health care is forced upon us and if we can not afford it we pay a penalty when we can not aford that. Does not work... Next mandatory employment or work for the gov doing what they say to pay for your health care and what ever else they want to force on us. Tax on a pack of Marlboro, 5$. Federal tax, state tax, Medicare, Social Security, Video camera's for police run by the private sector for finacial gain of the town, state or county, invalid imo. Widening gap between the wealthy and the poor and shrinking middle class with the majority going to the poorer side. Excessive student loans a housing mortage crisis and a bunch of middle East flare ups, and just for kick throw in a Dooms day predition or two and yes, you have conditions that cause fear and preperation for dooms day. Next you will hear about all the undergound shelters, all up for sale in 2013... Time to buy some Twinkies, lol.

Paint the picture how ever you want. My main point would be that with all the eco friendly people who hate hunters and promote any anti hunting/fishing stuff. This is a actual real world thing that can be done to entice people into the outdoors and hunting/fishing. Will this transform our younger generation, NO. Yet it will introduce them to the outdoors and what hunting and fishing is really about. Not don't kill a animal because it is wrong which is spread throughout our school systems here on LI... The anti's have a monopoly down here you have no clue if you think otherwise, one of the reasons I doubt this will take effect, just too much resistance from the left wing... PS: I doubt I will ever be affected by a youth hunt or any youth program, I just oppose one's that don't work in my oppinion. If that makes you think i want the woods all to my self fine be that as it may, you are entitiled to think thats my view, called an opinion... This is a real solution not some sugar coated unrealistic hunt, and again I doubt this would ever affect me. A youth hunt would not affect me. I oppose what is not realistic. This is a real viable solution that would work for the entire state, not a few lucky kids that get a early season hunt. Again we need this to introduce people and educate them about the outdoors and in the proccess hopefully gain some recognition and acceptablitly from the border line people. We have enough jerks out thier doing bad things, poaching, spotlighting, jacking, riding with loaded weapons, thrill hunts. This would shed good light on conservation and ethical hunting/fishing. In so far as exposing kids to the orange army, yea, you do not have to take a kid out opening day of rifle for deer as his 1st hunt. Any ethical hunter/mentor would take the kid out many times before he was intoduced to big game hunting opening day IMHO... I am shocked at the resistance here, finally a proposal that would have a positive impact on our young and yet we find and point out the negative. Nothing is perfect yet this is the best proposal to help the young get healthy, be knowlegeable about the outdoors and or possibly become a hunter/fisherman/woman...

Great idea if they can implement it state wide... That would have my support for sure. Great tool for outdoors introdution especially for suburban kids who might miss out. I would hope field trips would be required and essential. Wow I want to go back to school now, lol. Many hurdles to jump over for that to take effect, perhaps too many.

I have some young kids that will be hunting with me very soon. The one's who are interested will go no matter what, the others will not for any given reason. Again between video games, internet, facebook, mail, tv and movies kids have many other choices for entertainment. A early hunt will not change them... You are into hunting or you are not, a youth hunt is just a way of trying to keep thier intrest we are told. I bet if we surveyed all the youth in the program, they would still hunt if the program was not intact... Im not really against it yet I feel it is not the best recruiting tool... You want to get them into hunting, LOWER THE AGE restrictions. Then when they are ready to hunt they can, not 2+ years after they are interested. Start them early and they will hunt for the rest of thier lives... Providing good mentor... That would be a better recruiting tool IMHO. This way when the parent or gaurdian feels the child is ready, he can take them out, not when NYS says they are ready... Some are ready to hunt at 12 others early or latter up to the parent to decied when they are ready after they pass a lower legal age. How many hunters shot thier 1st deer at age 10? Many and they still hunt to this day...

I have to agree with Doc again. If you want to get them interested in hunting take them out on a small game hunt while scouting for deer or just while scouting. You will see all the deer you want, if that does not get them interested you are fighting a lost cause IMO... JUST seeing a deer gets me excited after 24 years of hunting, if seeing, stalking and calling deer during closed season does not spark thier interest, again IMO they were not going to be into hunting no matter what you do. Hunting is something that is in our DNA. If you have to force them into the outdoors or make a separate hunt with unrealistic expectations you are setting them up for failer... If they enjoy hunting for small game that is all you need, the larger game will follow, no need for a separate season that is not a true representation of hunting. We are born a hunters, whether or not you keep and or catch the hunting bug is another story... IMHO it is something that you are born having the itch or not. Tough to get someone who is not into the outdoors to hunt or even get them off the dam computer... Again this is all opinion, NO ONE person is right, just differant ways of percieving things... I just don't see a special season making a dif in anyone who hunts... If the kids do not get a deer and say this hunting stuff sucks during a special season does that mean it did not work? Or if the kid gets a deer and really sees the entire process will that deter them? If all the kids get a buck and my kid did not will my kid say this sucks and hate hunting? If you take them out on a realistic hunt and they actually get a deer, you can say with PRIDE my son/daughter nailed this nice buck/doe that NO OTHER hunter was able to get. Yet if they get one off season during a specail hunt just for kids, well now it is just a kiddy kill to all the other hunters and not a realistic approach to what is real when hunting. Again this is all a matter of opinion, NO ONE PERSON IS RIGHT OR WRONG. IMO a separate season is not a way to entice new young hunters... One of the things hunters need to know is every trip out is not a success. Anyone hunting for any length of time knows this. Yet if you take a kid out and slam a doe the 1st day he will think this is how hunting is done and expect that every time... Hunting is about enjoying the outdoors and that is what should be instilled into new hunters, not here is a easy kill to get you started... Conservation, preservation and ethics this is how I would teach a kid, killing is the last thing they will learn about as I feel this is ony the means to the end, unless you have multiple tags... Just sounds to me like many of you are saying they need to kill something to keep them interested. Again if seeing, stalking, calling and observing deer (off season)does not peak thier interest you are fighting a lost cause IMHO...

Wow very clear, what type of cam did you use?

I am trying to figure out a way to make a mail box that looks like a buck. My nieghbor down the road has a nice fishing lure as the box with a bass under it engulfing it's prey. Cool stuff!
