  1. LOL john thats a good one!
  2. Good luck Bubba!!!
  3. Funny how they will allow a farmer to use the state land and have food plots. But a person or group who wants to improve habitat is not allowed? Thier is no reason the Dacks can not hold large amounts of deer yet it has been turning into a bird sanctuary for years and will continue in area's with high canopy. The towns would thrive if they made access to area's better and improved habitat. Who wants to drive 45 min + every morning to get to the hunting area... Many towns upstate have access to state land yet the trails are sometimes restricted by private owners making access impossible. Open more trails and better access to state land, if done properly could help with habitat. Anything would help. Otherwise I would look real funny walking around the woods with 2 big bags of seed and a crumb trail to follow but I like the idea!!! Just don't like the idea of getting a ticket for it... I will have to dig a hole for my apple cores as it would not be legal for the deer to eat them... Im gona look funny hiking a box of apples back 5 miles, just a thought...
  4. Why do you say that jusputtn? I know you can not use that clip but the gun is ok for hunting. Ahh retractable stock, I see now. I don't think you can make it with that in NY. Not sure what mag regs are in place except for hunting. I have two five round clips just for hunting, 5 round max with and semi auto action for big game, that im sure is fact.
  5. Wow great story growalot, and your calling is impressive to say the least! Very cool. Congrats to All great pics. I am debatting doing a hunt this weekend or a 3D shoot. Or possibly scouting out some local deer in my town just to see if it is legit... Good luck this weekend to all us weekend wariors!!! Take pics!
  6. I am so afraid of ticks I was scared to click on this post!!! Thanks for the heads up Grizz1219, I will give it a try. Lyme really scares me because I have seen it's effects 1st hand...
  7. They are in Northport. I am going to check out west hills park, I have heard of one crossing Pidgion Hill road and other well lets say wierd area's. I am always a skeptic but this info usually comes from a person with little interest one way or another... I think you hit the nail on the head with that one Antlers! I just have not heard of them in that part of huntington in a long time, the West Hills Park area. Cool stuff, and amazing how they utilize "our" trail systems... I have hiked the 1st part of that trail by the boat ramp, great views and a challenging hike with my friends kids in tow...
  8. Deerthug you have the best chair I have ever seen!!! Love that pic! I would think they came from Caumsett if they are in Oyster Bay. I believe that is how Caumsett was populated, from deer swiming across Huntington Bay from Eatons Neck. Then from thier to Oyster Bay through Cold Spring Harbor.
  9. I have to agree with Doc and DeerThug on this one. While I agree with his stance on the 2nd ammendment I do not like the way he presents himself to the general public... And yes the laws regaurding hunting are vauge at best and if an officer does not like you, he will find a way to ticket you... I feel we should have a interactive map that shows in better details the laws and restrictions for certian counties and towns... I have not seen many of his shows yet the one I did see represeted hunters well, he just seems a little too far out in left field some times for me...
  10. My buddy has found some huge sheds in Caumsett park, wish I could hunt over in that area or in Eatons neck, both places have many deer. I am not suprised they are moving south from that area. Just a little suprised they are by the train station, yet the fields close by could hold a few that is for sure...
  11. I have a few people in Huntington who have spotted a deer, most recently by the starbucks on 110. With all the construction going on by the Northern state I am not surprised... I have heard of deer in Northport, yet that is not that far from Eatons neck which is filled with monster deer... I am pretty sure this deer came from Bethpage State park. I am not sure about shooting in a tournament this weekend due to rain so If I do not do the tourney I will try and find tracks or some other sign. Never though I would be tracking deer in my home town as they have not been around for 30+ years... Hopefully pics to follow... Just like tracking in the ADK some times you only have one set to follow...
  12. Good luck all, be safe. I might go up to prattsville for the weekend or another archery 3D shoot. Took 1st out of 5 w/259, my score keeps creeping up 249 253 hope it continues! Love my Helium... Turkey season=excuse to scout for deer.
  13. Never really thought about it, sounds fun and tasty! Good luck!
  14. What are they, ducks? Hard to tell when they are so young... I have so many baby geese here at my job. Congrats!!!
  15. This should be illegal. That is discrimination plain and simple. So much for supporting a good american company. Upsetting...
  16. So much for safety... You can't fix stupid...
  17. They are true beasts. To be locked up fighting for that long and surviving the yotes and still have the energy to toss the dead deer around like that is amazing. And to survive it all wow...
  18. As always, great shots! Love your titles... So funny how as hunters we are such conservationist but the PETA types never see that side of us, just that we are "killers". Your pics rock keep them coming!!!
  19. Thanks for the info guys, not that I hunt LI that much but I like having a heads up on places like this to keep friends informed... Esp. places that have issues! If it works for you use it. I say the sun is orange he says yellow as long as the grass grows it does not matter... I love hunting the ADK in a area with few deer yet I can not even get my brother to come up for a day to check it out. There are no deer up thier he says... Yet I pass on so many deer in HIS hunting area due to low age structure... Again to each his own... If you like the club fine, thats great that you have good hunts, I hope you keep it up. Otherwise having people complain about it is what helps fix any issues... Good clubs go downhill usually due to mismanagement, broken promises, and low membership levels. Drunken owners are not a problem yet broken promises and land claimed as clubs without permion is something I would like to steer clear of and help friends with proper informaton to keep them out of trouble... We have enough regulations to figure out, enough rules to follow, the last thing I would want is to get into trouble for tresspassing while hunting, another reason I love my area, NO RESIDENTIAL area's with in 7 mi. All most impossible to tresspass...
  20. LMAO dave good one! Good post Eddie!
  21. Trapping would make a dif in your area if you can get more people into it. I meet a trapper this year and I am taking the course, not to realy do a lot of trapping but just another reason to get into the woods... It is a dying breed, yet we need them to help with predation control. How many people do you know that go fox, coon, possum, yote, and or bobcat hunt? Plus they can take beaver... I was thanking the trapper multiple times for trapping beaver, otherwise I would have miles a year closed off to hunting due to beaver dams! Cull the predators and your turkey will return.
  22. No doubt NCountry, just because I can pull a 70 lbs bow does not mean I should use one. I recently purchased a new bow and went down to a 65 lbs draw wieght that is more comfortable shooting now that I shoot much more... I hear guys saying "I tore my shoulder on the 1st draw of the day", no thanks, not for me... I see many guys over bowed when shooting. I would not be suprised to see many stoping bow hunting because of injury due to excessive draw wieght.
  23. I agree Doc, we should all try to take everything with a grain of salt... And try not to degrade some one's oppinion on somthing we have not witnessed in person. Remember Perspective!!! And yes he is probably on another web site by now. Remember as Moderators you should have a impartial view at least at first. Next time request pictures and a more clear picture might be presented... Then the argument of how old, poaching and or a DEC dump pile can be discussed with all seeing the same picture. Otherwise it is a matter of opinion with out facts...
  24. The 1st year I entered Moose River a sign was up for a missing hiker, his name was David Boomhower and the year was 1991. He was found deceased opening weekend, although circumstances surrounding his demise persist it is safe to say he gave into to the elements and a cold/bacterial/viral infection less than 3 miles from a road and supposedly lived a few weeks through torential rains. I said to my hunting partner of 4 years this is No Fooling (polite version) Around back here, you get lost and you’re in some DEEP woods and NFA was born. I love the ADK (Adirondacks) so NFA-ADK... NFA-GETSOME is my usual handle yet that is on a more serious note so NFA-ADK seemed more fitting to "chat"...
