Belo, I understand what you're saying, but how is this not intended to knock someone down? And this is just one example out of many. The guy hasn't been back on the site since the day he posted. I'm sure that has nothing to do with being humiliated though, right?
-
Wolf or not, I hope he killed it. I would.
-
Where was I defending the shots he took? I agree that they were bad choices. All I said is that the guy is new, and while he may have made some poor decisions, nothing is accomplished by belittling and scolding him. Of course nobody should take shots like that. I have no problem with some constructive criticism, but the "holier than thou" attitude often diplayed on this site is ridiculous.
-
Seriously? Check yourself. You sound pretty arrogant. The guy is obviously new, and maybe doesnt have someone to teach him like many of us were fortunate enough to have. We were all novices & most of us have made some stupid mistakes, even you I bet. Don't forget where you came from. Maybe try to offer advice instead of trying to humiliate someone, possibly ruining the sport for them. I hope someone is there to ridicule you the next time you mess up. Hang in there Peter.

Don't forget to get Get out and VOTE Tuesday November 4th
Skillet replied to HuntingNY's topic in General Chit Chat
Don't vote? Never complained about the SAFE act? So does that mean you believe it's a sensible set of laws? Maybe you would call them "common sense gun control measures"? ]I'm only 30 & I don't pretend to be smart about politics, but I wouldn't dream of not voting. I know what issues are important to me. It doesn't take much research to figure out what Cuomo has in mind, and what his opinion is of conservatives. The SAFE act alone should've been enough to get every one of us out to vote against Cuomo. With all the talk about Cuomo & all the media attention given to him, you must intentionally have the blinders on to say you've don't have enough knowledge of his "plans" to influence your vote. I'm not even saying you need to put your faith in what you read on this site, watch on Fox, or hear on conservative talk radio. Facts are facts. Even with an unbiased opinion presenting them to you, the facts about Cuomo's history, policies, & on record opinions should scare the s**t out of you. Sitting on this forum and talking about our next big hunt is nice. It's gotta be nice to say "it doesn't affect me", and ignore it. But, it will affect us all eventually. This stuff is spreading like cancer, and if you think it won't get to you, you're ignorant. Even moving to another state will only delay it. At best we're in big trouble, and with people thinking about just themselves & their shortsighted interest, we are screwed. There will never be a day when the anti-gunners say "OK, we're happy with the gun control laws we have in place. We dont need any more." Oh wait, yes they will, the day private gun ownership is banned. -
It's unfortunate, but there's nothing I can do about it. We're stuck with it. I'm not quitting over it either.

It just so happens that I'm unionized and I work for the state. I am voting Republican, as well as the majority of guys in our shop. Just because we're in a union that unfortunately supports Cuomo, does not mean that we do as individuals.

Really??? Go back to the Dream Season taxidermy thread. The original poster edited it and all it says is "Resolved". Neither You nor anyone else on here (except the taxidermist & the original poster) knows the whole story. Maybe you should think about that before posting stuff which can damage someone's livelihood.

Just find the guys who made Obama's birth certificate. I'm sure they'd hook you up.

The whole house. The only room without some sort of mount in it is the bathroom. The best part is, she wouldn't have it any other way. (Most of the mounts are stuff she killed anyway!)

Powderhorn hunting preserve / Pere David's deer.
Skillet replied to Skillet's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Biz, My Dad got me a pair of sheds from a Pere David's when I was little. I've been obsessed with them ever since. It was really hot out. We had to skin it, quarter it, and get it on ice right away. My girlfriend is also my taxidermist, so luckily she was there and she took care of the cape. -
I've wanted to hunt a Pere David's Deer since I was a little kid, and since they don't exist in the wild, a preserve is the only way to do it. This past winter, I found this place in PA & booked a hunt. I had to work a lot of overtime and cut back on other things, but it was well worth it. The place was awesome, and the people really went out of their way to make it great for us. He's had a breeding herd of Pere Davids for many years, and they are as wild as anything in a preserve can possibly be. You can't approach them, and they have excellent vision & hearing just like any other deer. They rut in May / June, and the roaring noise they make is so awesome! I was able to kill this bull last week, from a pop-up blind with a single 27yd shot. Say what you want about preserves, but this animal was at the top of my list, and there's no other way to hunt them. We hunted hard, and I feel it was a real hunt. I dont regret it and I plan on going back next year. Overall, it was one of the best vacations I've ever had.

I learned to stay put If I have a bird working and then he gets henned up. Several times this season, exactly that happened to me. The birds got henned up by 7 or 7:30 and they would move off for the morning. By staying put and being patient, I learned that often a tom will come back looking for you later in the morning after his girlfriends leave him. I think he remembers that there was another hen in the area (you). One time, the bird I was working got henned up and left the area, gobbling as he went. I moved about 80 yards towards where I last heard him, and set up to wait. At about 11, He started gobbling in the exact spot I had been calling from that morning. I didnt kill him, but he taught me a lot. I also learned that I think there are a lot more silent birds out there than I previously thought. The first bird I killed didnt gobble at all on the roost, even though there were several others going nuts. Only after fly down did he gobble, and even then, I think he only did it twice on his way in.

Hey guys, I'm looking for some ideas as to where I can shoot some carp. I usually shoot Buck Pond, up by the lake in Greece. It's been a weird spring, and there's no spawning activity around yet. Just wondering if anybody's been having any luck around Rochester. Any ideas would be helpful. We used to shoot Russell Station, but that has died since they shut the power plant down. Here's a pic of my girlfriend's first carp ever. Lucky her, it was a grass carp, I've never even killed one of them. She killed it this year.
-
I like to text. My favorite is when I hit "Send", then I look up and see a deer giving me the hairy eyeball.
-
We've seen in growing while hunting around Rochester. And no, I didn't report it. Not my land, none of my business, & congrats to that guy for getting away with it.
-
LMAO!!!!

The bigger buck was behind mine, and I didn't see him until after the shot. Not that it would've mattered. Even if I'd seen him coming, I'd still have taken the shot at the little buck. He presented me with a great shot, and I've got no regrets.
-
Killed a 3 pointer tonight, with about 20 minutes of light left. 5 yard shot. He was with a larger buck. Thankful to have him going in the freezer. Girlfriend saw 7 doe and a basket, in the AM.

Awesome! Thanks for the good news! Definitely puts my "problems" in perspective. A reality check, I guess. Hope you have a great hunting season!

Struck out on opening day squirrel

One of the ones she killed. There was a ton of acorns and beech nuts, but the walnuts were slim for some reason. Killed this one out of a big Red Oak.
