  1. Picked a good day to take off work. Beautiful weather, fish in the creek, and nobody around.
  2. Was a good evening on the creek tonight. We kept this spawned out male to make steaks.
  3. Got a nice brown, and my buddy got this 26" hen. He's getting a reproduction made.
  4. Slow day for our group. One fish for 5 guys.
  5. These are not stocked. Rainbows were introduced to canandaigua lake in 1936. Most people are decent. I fish right up until mid May, when the trout move out.
  6. There's a lot of lifters, for sure. My favorite is when someone walks through the head of the hole you're fishing. I have no problem calling out a lifter. I don't enjoy battle fishing either, but it's tradition. We usually catch some fish. DEC has been all over Naples creek this spring. Hope they're out there Friday.
  7. Same place. Stop by if you're down that way!
  8. I can't wait! This will be our 13th "trout camp". The boys will all be at down next Wednesday morning. There'll be lots of shooting, gambling, and cooking all week. Friday is the big day. We'll be at the creek by 4am, with coffee, nasty breakfast sandwiches, and a cigar or two. Nothing better than having the guys at camp. Who else is hitting the creeks?
  9. Very cool stuff.
  10. Any pics of the ones you built? That's awesome.
  11. That's a Buck 124.
  12. Does anyone here collect knives? I've been getting into it lately. Mostly collecting Pumas and Bucks. It's fun to find them at sales and antique stores.
  13. I still check in and lurk, from time to time. Just got tired of the arguing and BS, of which I used to admittedly be part of. BTW, sorry to anyone I was a jerk to in the past. Biggest reason I'm not here much, is I don't really hunt anymore, so there's not much left here for me. I just lost it I guess. I'm mostly a trout fisherman now. I like to check in on what Law, Blackbeltbill, and Wolc are up to, now and then. I sure do miss wooly and pygmy. We had some good talks. Sorry to see this place as it is. Learned a lot here.
  14. SOLD. Thanks Geoff. Was a pleasure meeting you.
  15. Used Excalibur Matrix 310 crossbow for sale. This is one of the good bows, from before Excalibur started having limb issues. Includes scope, quiver, cocking rope, stringer, and 4 bolts. NY legal bow. Just not hunting much these days. $350. I will drive to meet within 25 miles of Naples, Ontario county.
  16. Thanks Law. Merry Christmas to you too. Looking at a nice Sony. Can get a great zoom lens for not too much extra.
  17. Four seasons, take that comment and stick it in your ***. Your thinly veiled insult about taking a 1.5 doesn't mean a damn thing to me. I'm not interested in your opinion on what deer I take. This would have made me feel the same, whether it was a doe, spike, or ten point. You missed the point which was that I don't enjoy taking a life. Period. Get over yourself.
  18. Hahaha. No, I enjoy the meat and I LOVE the hunt. It's the kill that is starting to bother me.
  19. At the risk of sounding like a sissy, I'm going to put this out there. I killed a small buck this morning. I'm not feeling too good about it. It went ok, and it was a fast kill, but I'm just not sure how I feel about it anymore. He was just happily eating acorns, and doing his thing, when I shot him. It was a beautiful snowy morning, and I was blessed to share the woods with the deer. Almost felt like I ruined it by shooting. The older I get, the less I have the stomach for killing game. Anyone else here have trouble pulling the trigger, or a ton of remorse after? Thinking about just buying a really nice camera for next year.
  20. Don't quit man! Opening day is when the magic happens! Maybe one will get pushed to you. Don't sit it out, you never know how many opening days you have left.
  21. I'll be in an oak tree that borders a thicket on top of my hill. Have hunted the edge of that thicket for the last two opening days, and each time there was deer in there all day. Hopefully Grandpa's shotgun gets to speak.
  22. I snap two before loading.
  23. I have also unintentionally bought different size nips for my hawkens. Have not had an issue. As long as the hammer has enough swing to ignite the cap, it should be no problem.
  24. The first is a Traditions Deer Hunter. The stainless one is Lyman Deerstalker.
