SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
Larry replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
hey I'm just trolling hey I pass on small bucks. I just don't like someone being forced in to my way of hunting or me being forced in to your way of hunting. Some of these guys I don’t think their having fun because they are spending too much time worrying about what the other guy is doing instead of enjoying the hunt. They think success in the hunt is coming home with a big rack. That’s ok for them hopefully some day they will learn there more important things than antlers. -

I see the nys budget passed, so now we have AR's?
Larry replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Usually they put something in the budget to sneak it though because they don’t have the votes to get it passed. I think the ar thing may not even get out of committee. Also now these senators can say we tried but we couldn’t get it though. Just to let you all know I’m against AR’s. -

I went on the budget web site and didn’t see anything in the budget on antler restrictions or the crossbow issue. That doesn’t mean there not in there it just means I didn’t see them. -

By putting it into the budget it was a way to sneak this bad pace of legislation though without a vote and so the governor could veto it. -

I hate to brake this to some of you guys. But there is not a deer season in this state for us to hunt any kind of trophy deer. No madder where they place the dates or for how long anyone season is. There is a deer season for one reason only and that’s to make some attempt to control the deer population. That’s it period! You guy just don’t get it they’re not going to take days from one season and add them to another you have a better chance of getting more days. Then taking days away. -

This bill may never become law. When The New York Whitetail Management Coalition sent their 6000 form letters demanding the governor force the DEC into this exact same plan. He said something to the fact that it was up to the DEC to set season dates and bag limits and what is harvested. So even if it passes both houses which I doubt it will, he may still veto it. I actually think it won’t get out of committee in at least one of the houses. -
Waterfowl season setting meeting for the western zone will be held on Saturday April 1st at 9am at region 8 headquarters in Avon. The meeting is open to the public BUT you will not be allowed to speak if you try or disrupt the meeting in any way you will be told to leave. This meeting is for the western zone waterfowl reps and the DEC to try to set this year’s waterfowl season. This is a chance to see what it takes to set the season and why you don’t get what you want.

Chas0218 you mean to tell me there are only 6 deer on 300 acres? Or is that 6 deer you would be willing to shoot there is a difference. If you really only have 6 deer on that property and you killed 5 it’s time to find a new place to hunt. Because you have bigger issues on that land then just people killing deer all around you. -

As of right now there is no Assembly co-bill. So this attempt to circumvent the DEC will have no chance to become law and will likely die in committee without a co-bill. This was not about whether you’re in favor of AR’s or not it was about the back handed way it was being done. -

I would like to know how Animal husbandry has anything to do with free ranging deer. When by definition Animal husbandry is the care and breeding of Domesticated livestock. Here are some of the techniques used: breeders, herd health specialists, feeders, and milkers to help care for the animals. Techniques such as artificial insemination and embryo transfer are frequently used, not only as methods to guarantee that females are bred, but also to help improve herd genetics. This may be done by transplanting embryos from stud-quality females into flock-quality surrogate mothers - freeing up the stud-quality mother to be reimpregnated. This practice vastly increases the number of offspring which may be produced by a small selection of stud-quality parent animals. This in turn improves the ability of the animals to convert feed to meat, milk, or fiber more efficiently, and improve the quality of the final product. I would think it would be extremely difficult to employ any of these techniques on free ranging deer. -
couldn't get them to shoot well

You can’t prove their data is wrong and if it is then whose fault is if we don’t report are harvest. It won’t matter if the legislature dose the management what the numbers are it can be whatever you want the numbers to be. -

This is not about whether not you are for or ageist antler restrictions. It’s about whether or not you want an individual or a group to go to a state senator and say the DEC does not manage wildlife the way we want them to. (In this case deer) So here’s our plan and we want you guys to get it passed into law for us. So we can circumvent the DEC because we know what’s best for all hunters. This is The New York Whitetail Management Coalitions plan. If you think these senators could come up with this legislation on their own then I have a plan for a fast ferry for you to buy into. This origination after the DEC. came up with promoting voluntary letting small bucks walk, they sent 6000 form letters not to the DEC but to the governor. Asking him to force the DEC into state wide antler restriction. This origination at best has 6000 members that’s about 1% of the hunters in the state. So do you really want wildlife management though legislation? If you do then we should get rid of the DEC transfer enforcement to the state police and let the legislature do the management. Think of the money the state could save by getting rid of the professionals and having legislature do the management. All you have do every time you don’t like something or we need a change. We go to the same people that brought us the safe act and the highest taxes in the US that’s who I would like doing my wildlife management for me. How about you? -
